September 29, 2017 - Week 5

Greetings Dale Street Community!

I am not sure about you, but I can't believe that we are about to turn the calendar to October.  I am so happy to share the awesomeness that took place at Dale Street this week.

On Wednesday, students in Ms. MacDonald's class had the opportunity to create a treasure map.  Highlighting concepts from the Massachusetts History and Social Science Frameworks, students focused on map tools such as compass rose, legend, scale and title.  And of course....an X to mark the spot of riches!

Congratulations to the students who were selected to serve on this year's Student Advisory Council as well as our Student Advisory Council alternates.  Thank you to all the boys and girls who submitted a letter of interest.  Although some students may not have been selected to serve on this year's council, we hope they will be active leaders bringing about creative ideas in their classrooms.

Thank you to all who have already signed up for our annual Community Trivia Night on November 3.  We are currently sold out for both sittings but encourage you to join our waiting list in case tables become available.  Visit www.medfieldcoalition.org to add your team to the list.

As many of you are aware, a tremendous amount of families were devastated by catastrophic weather over the last few months. As a way to connect our students to the world around us and demonstrate one of Dale Street’s Core Values, compassion, the Dale Street Student Advisory Council is spearheading a collection for members of the Fehl-Price Elementary School in Beaumont, Texas. We have been in contact with the school and they are extremely grateful that the Dale Street community has decided to support their community. Donations will be collected from October 2nd - October 20th.    Items we are collecting: Backpacks, Socks, Girl and boy underwear(sizes 4-14), jackets or sweaters  (4-18), School Supplies.

So proud of these Dale Street's students for showing compassion and helping a fellow student look for a missing charm at recess.
Special thanks to Yasmina in Ms. MacDonald's class for reading 2 book recommendations this morning.  Her first recommendation was All the Land of Stories by Chris Colfer.  Yasmina gave the book 5 stars because it was "a lot of interesting fantasy."  Yasmina's second recommendation was Amulet by Kazu Kibuishi.  Yasmina also gave this book 5 stars because "it is an amazing fantasy."  Thanks Yasmina!

How cool is this.....Dylan in Mr. Mason's class received this awesome fan package from the New York Giants.  This mailing is a direct result of Dylan's letter that he sent the team earlier this month.  Well done, Dylan!  We are happy for you!

Students in Ms. Bertschmann's fifth grade class used time this week to participate in reader's workshop.  The focus on this day was 'reading closely for word choice.'  Students were making wonderful connections with where they could use their selected words/phrases in other areas
.

Congratulations to our Positive Referrals this week.  Thank you for making our school such a great place!   We are very proud of you!

For your child's safety, please have your child arrive at school after 8:10 am.  There will be no supervision before that time.

Math workshop was up and running in Mrs. Crable's & Ms. Isaacson's fourth grade classrooms.  So great to see the collaboration and investment!

Dale Street's Core Values (Respect*Compassion*Collaboration*Continuous Growth) can be modeled in any language.  Thanks Señora  LeVangie and Ms. Condon's students!

As you may be aware Stop & Shop is a big supporter of our school.  Last year, Dale Street received over $900 due to families shopping at Stop & Shop.  If you shop at Stop & Shop, please use Dale Street's ID # - 07395 and Dale Street will receive monetary rewards.  Please view a detailed explanation here.

Another engaging, empowering and innovative week in Dale Street's Makerspace!

Please read the PTO Update which has information about PTO fundraisers, volunteer positions, and the upcoming Medfield Talks series: The Well Balanced student.

Enjoy your weekend and we look forward to seeing the kids back on Monday!

Sincerely,
Steve
