September 30, 2022 - Week 5

 Dear Dale Street Families,

What a great week here at #beproudbedale!  There was a lot of learning, a lot of fun, and great enthusiasm throughout the week.  Scroll through to take a look...

Congratulations to this week's Positive Referral!

Caden was recognized for modeling wonderful compassion and respect.

Check out these cartographers from Ms. MacDonnell's grade 4 class.  This week students collaborated to highlight the cardinal directions, map scales, key/legend (symbols for mountains, rivers, deserts, lakes, cities), and map titles to locate and identify important physical features on a map of North America.

'YOU BELONG!'

Tickets to the 2022 Fall Ball are now available! The Fall Ball happens every two years and is MCPE’s biggest fundraiser. All proceeds from the event will support grants made to teachers and administrators at all five Medfield Public Schools. Be sure to get your tickets!

Did you know that MCPE is a nonprofit organization that supports the entire Pre-K-12 public school system in Medfield? We raise money through community events, corporate sponsorships, and special campaigns. The generosity of the Medfield community enables MCPE to provide monetary support for all schools through grants for specific projects and initiatives that support the development of innovative programs, curriculum, and enrichment that would otherwise be outside the parameters of the school budget. Here are some fun examples of recent MCPE-funded projects that Medfield kids are benefitting from right now!

  • Science & Engineering Visiting Science Unit at Dale Street School, providing five hands-on engineering lessons from visiting scientists for grade 5 students

  • Modernizing the LMC/Makerspace Learning Spaces at Blake Middle School, including purchase of a GlowForge 3D Printer and space-appropriate furniture

  • Funding for Numicon kits for each Kindergarten and grade 1 classroom, allowing our youngest learners to build a developmentally appropriate conceptual understanding of numbers.

Students in Mrs. Scott's fourth-grade class loved having a visit from Dale Street reading specialist, Mrs. Bassett.  She shared some great strategies for solving tricky words students may encounter when reading.

State-mandated vision screening will be conducted next week during PE classes.
Please make sure if your child wears glasses/contacts that they have them with them.
Please contact the school nurse at kthompson@email.medfield.net
with any questions or if you would like your child excluded from the screening

Please read: Updated Guidance 8/15/22:  Covid 19 Guidelines

Grade 5 Dale Street students will be raffling off this long rainbow loom chain to support Administrative Assistant, Mrs. Gilberti who will once again participate in the Jimmy Fund Walk. Raffle tickets will be on sale for $1 starting Monday and will be sold until Friday, October 14th.  Students are able to buy more than one ticket if they would like. Tickets can be purchased in the main office. All collected money will be donated to the Jimmy Fund Walk.

Creators Sarah, Anna, Olivia, Lucy, Jordyn, and Madison

This week Grade 4 students in Ms. Isaacson's class worked on creating story arcs during writer's workshop.  Students listened to the story Nana Akua goes to School and learned about some Ashanti traditions while making a story arc to go along with it.

2023 TESTING SCHEDULE
Dale Street's testing schedule is set for the spring.  As always it is most important that students attend school on the days of testing, so please plan appointments in a way that does not interfere with your child being in school on the following testing dates:

ELA Testing

Grade 5 April 10th and April 11th

STE Testing

Grade 5 May 9th and May 10th

This week, Mrs. Chamblin's fifth-grade class had fun participating in a project-based learning activity.  Students are building food trucks and will “shop” for food (on a budget) at each other’s food trucks as a creative way to practice adding and subtracting decimals! Very cool!

This week in Ms. Plympton's fourth-grade class, scientists identified erosion and deposition using stream tables.  These students rock!

There is no school on Wednesday, October 5th
 in observance of Yom Kippur.

September 23, 2022 - Week 4

 Hello Dale Street,

We hope that you had an awesome week because we sure did at #beproudbedale!  Please take a few minutes to scroll through this week's blog as it contains important family information and highlights our week.

As I tweeted out last night, PIN was an awesome evening that highlighted the importance of the family and school partnership. We are so lucky to have had such great attendance at PIN.  Thank you to all who came out to learn about your child's classroom.

I would like to ask you to keep these things in mind as the year moves along.

  • I ask parents to check in with the classroom teacher first if there is a suspected problem.  Many times these suspected problems can be resolved quickly once there is clarification provided by the classroom teacher.
  • I strongly believe in the importance of social and emotional wellness among our students and staff members. I have encouraged all staff to "go dark" and stay off technology (i.e. emails) after 5:00 p.m.  Staff members work so very hard all day and providing them time to spend with family, pets, and/or hobbies/interests will help them decompress and de-stress.  Providing staff an opportunity to de-stress will undoubtedly ensure students have more fresh and well-adjusted staff members each day.

On Tuesday, Grade 4 students in Mrs. Scott's class collaborated to make observations and collect data to provide evidence that rocks, soils, and sediments are broken into smaller pieces through mechanical weathering.

Huge thanks to our Grade 4 and 5 band captains for their help with setting up for our full ensemble rehearsals! The band captains assist with setting up 100 chairs, stands, and name tags. #ROCKSTARS!

Covid Guidelines 2022-2023

that the Library has a Lego greeter this year?  There is only one problem...it doesn't have a name.  Students have been involved in a contest that asks them to make up to 2 name suggestions.  Students have until next Friday, September 30th to submit suggestions.  Staff members will select the winning name during the week of October 3rd.

Congratulations to this week's Positive Referrals!

Lily was recognized for showing great kindness and consideration!

Molly was recognized for demonstrating our Core Value of Compassion!

Ryan was recognized for the kindness and compassion he has continuously shown his classmates!

We are very excited to announce that again this year all 4th and 5th-grade students will have the opportunity to complete biweekly math challenges.  Math challenges will be available to print at home from the website linked below.

Students will be free to solve as many problems as they can and will have about a week to turn in their work. We hope that all students and families find these problems to be a challenging and fun activity.

More information, including a calendar of important dates and a link to download and print the challenges and solutions, is available here. Any questions regarding the math challenge program can be directed to Dale Street math specialist, Ms. Perachi.

The first Challenge begins today and is due on 10/4

How fast does the earth spin?  Grade 5 students in Mrs. Hayes' class used Kinesthetic learning to better understand this concept.  What a fun and informative activity!

'YOU ARE WORTH IT!'

As an FYI, we will be using the district's Community Notices link to showcase different events at Dale Street and throughout the district.  This link is located on the Medfield Public Schools webpage in the 'Explore' section.

The Daily Dale student-led morning announcements started this week.  You can view one from this week here.  We hope you enjoy it!

Did you hear? Fall Ball is back!! Fall Ball is a biennial event hosted by the Medfield Coalition for Public Education (MCPE). It’s MCPE’s biggest fundraiser, and it’s an event not to be missed! This year, hundreds of Medfield residents and community members will gather at the Cross Insurance Pavilion at Gillette Stadium on Saturday, November 5th for a festive night of fundraising for Medfield Public Schools. One-third of each ticket sold will directly support the grants that MCPE gives to teachers and administrators at all five Medfield Public Schools. Tickets go on sale this Sunday, September 25th. Mark your calendars, because the last Fall Ball sold out in a few hours! Be sure to visit the MCPE tent on Medfield Day for more information about this very special night.

In World Language with SeƱora LeVangie this week, Grade 4 students interviewed classmates about how they were feeling.  The most popular answer...cansado/cansada (tired)!

We are looking for 1 or 2 fourth-grade parents to join our School Council. The Dale Street School Council meets every other month (via Zoom) to review the school budget and develop the school improvement plan. If you are interested in applying, please submit a letter of interest to sgrenham@email.medfield.net

We had a wonderful showing for Dale Street's first spirit day of the year.  I really hope it brings the home team some luck on Sunday.

Intramural sign-ups/registration will be coming out next week.  Classes are slated to start the week of October 10th.

On Thursday, students in Ms. Plympton's fourth-grade were totally engaged during math as they participated in a digital escape room.

This week at lunchtime students had another chance at the 'Lucky Tray.' Congratulations to our winners!

There is no school on Monday, September 26th
 in observance of Rosh Hashanah.
