June 16, 2017 - Week 39

Greetings Dale Street Community!

What an exciting last full week of school at Dale Street!  Take a minute to check out some of the amazing things that took place this week.

Today, our Grade 5 students had their Celebration.  What a wonderful time!  Everything from the student speakers to Mrs. Cowell's message to the whole class song - Memories was amazing!  Here are a few snapshots from the Celebration.

Congratulations to this year's PTO sponsored Yearbook Cover Contest winners!  Thank you to everyone who participated.  All the covers were magnificent!

Students in Mrs. Crable's and Ms. Isaacson's fourth grade classes spent time this week working on the engineering design process.  Soon after....they tested out their creations.

Special thanks to Henry, Charlotte, Sam, Stella and Morgan from Mrs. Lowerre's class for sharing their fidget spinner research with me this week.  You were all awesome!

Former Dale Street students and current Blake Middle School sixth graders visited our fifth graders as another way to assist in our young learners transitions.
Thank you for all your advice!

Summer Reading
As the 2016-17 school year comes to an end, it’s important to remember that reading doesn’t have to!  The Medfield Public Schools is committed to keeping literacy skills sharp by encouraging reading all summer long.  Reading throughout the summer will help to prevent learning loss (also known as the ‘Summer Slide’).  There are many summertime distractions that can often take the place of reading, but it’s important to stick with a reading routine.  Every day your child reads, he or she is strengthening important reading skills.  Reading consistently during your summer break, can truly make a difference.  This year, we encourage families of all elementary aged students to participate in our Summer Reading Challenges!  Visit this site to learn about the challenges and gain access to a variety of resources to support your summer reader(s)!

In addition, check out the information sessions that were prepared and presented by the Medfield Reading Department during our recent Family Literacy Night!  Many of the resources and suggestions that are embedded throughout these presentations will help you support your child(ren) during the summer months and beyond!

We hope you find all of these resources helpful as you prepare for your summer break!  In the fall, we’ll celebrate the summer reading efforts you and your family will make during July and August!  Happy reading!

Special thanks to Blake Middle School students for visiting Dale Street this week to present 'Creature Features.'  These students truly did a fantastic job and it was so cool to have Dale Street alumni back at our school.

Special thanks to Matthew from Mrs. Crable's class for sharing today's book recommendation.  Matthew recommended Greek Heroes by Percy Jackson because it was adventurous and full of humor.  Matthew gave this book 7 stars!  Thanks Matthew!

Here is the last
PTO update for the school year with informing about 2016-2017 accomplishments, volunteer opportunities and more!
