May 26, 2023 - Week 35

Dear Dale Street Community,

Thank you very much for all the well wishes you've sent following my recent injury.  Your kind words and thoughtful gestures have brought comfort and strength during this challenging time. I am truly blessed to work in such a wonderful and caring community. Thank you for your continuous encouragement and positivity. Please know that I am making progress and feeling better each day, and I am looking forward to rejoining Dale Street soon.  I am truly grateful for each and every one of you.

This morning our school held a beautiful Memorial Day assembly. The students did a remarkable job.  The Pledge of Allegiance was great (thanks, Ava Lou) and the Dale Street Chamber Orchestra played spectacularly!  Grade 5 students Shelby and Molly recited the Gettysburg Address, and Will and Michael played America the Beautiful and Taps on the trumpet.  We had the extra special treat of hearing remarks from Grade 5 teacher and Major in the United States Army Reserves, Ms. Burnham.  Special thanks to Administrative Assistant, Mrs. Gilberti for emceeing today's assembly. It was a great morning!

Dale Street Field Day is scheduled for Tuesday, June 6th (Rain Day, Wednesday, June 7th).  Mrs. Nawrocki and Mrs. Laughna are planning an exciting day of activities for our 4th and 5th graders.  Grade 4 will participate in Field Day during the morning (9:00 - 11:15) and Grade 5 will participate in the afternoon (12:00 - 2:15). Field Day will take place on the field between the Dale Street and Memorial Schools.  Classes will have the opportunity to rotate through nine stations. Classes will rotate with their classroom. All activities will take place on the field and on the blacktop.

We have found it to be helpful to

**have students wear comfortable clothes and sneakers on this day

**apply sunscreen before coming to school.  Please provide more sunscreen for re-application.

**send children with a hat and extra water on this day.

Classes will be eating bagged lunches. Students may bring their own bagged lunch or purchase a bagged lunch from the cafeteria. Note: There will be no other lunch options on this day.

Congratulations to Sam, Maddie, and Nabil for achieving the highest practice scores in grade 4 this year! These students have each completed over 150 practice activities this year.  Amazing work!

Last Friday, Grade 4 students were treated to an amazing Carnival Night.  Special thanks to our incredible PTO and to all of the family volunteers who made it such a great night!  Check out this group photo...

It is that time of the year!  This week Grade 5 students were thinking critically with Mrs. Lowerre in the Makerspace about how to create a contraption that will keep their egg safe.  So many great and creative ideas!

Attention Families!

As in past years, the PTO is partnering with 1st Day School Supplies to get all your school supplies for your student for next school year. All name-brand supplies will be packaged individually for your student. Items will be shipped to the school and ready for your child on their first day. A portion of the proceeds supports PTO programs throughout the year. Don’t delay - the sale ends July 1st!

Thank you to our Friday DJ's who rocked the lunchroom today!

On Wednesday night, Dale Street opened its doors to incoming Grade 4 families.  This is always a special and exciting night.  What made the night even more special was having current Dale Street Rockstars in attendance to share their experiences with incoming families.  The families loved the first-hand accounts of their experiences.  Thank you to all the students who came to help out and to the Dale Street staff who stayed late into the night to help out.

With the warm weather ahead to close out the school year, please send students to school with a refillable water bottle with their name on it so that they can stay hydrated throughout the day. We have a large number of unclaimed reusable water bottles in our lost and found that may belong to your child - please tell them to stop by and look if you are missing one.  Putting your child's name on it will ensure that it is returned if found. Students may refill their bottles using one of our two bottle-filling stations. We hope to be outdoors as much as possible for the remainder of the year so students may wish to have a hat and sunscreen moving forward as well.

May 19, 2023 - Week 34

 Hello Dale Street Community!

It was a busy, productive, and fantastic week here at #beproudbedale!  Please take a minute to scroll through to get a snapshot of the week and be sure to check in about some of our upcoming events.

Last Friday, the PTO Kids' Night Out returned!  It was such a fun and exciting carnival experience for our Dale Street 5th graders. Special thanks to all of the parents who volunteered.  I am excited to visit Grade 4's night tonight.

This morning, Grade 5 students in Ms. Sager's classroom facilitated a fantastic student-led Social Emotional Learning assembly on the importance of respecting the environment.  These students did an incredible job!

Field day times have been determined. Please see the schedule below for June 6th (rain date June 7th).  Activities will be held outside on the field between Dale and Memorial with additional details being shared closer to the event. We hope you can join us!

Grade 4 - 9:00 a.m. - 11:15 a.m.
Grade 5 - 12:00 p.m. - 2:15 p.m.

On Monday, Ms. Sager and members of Dale Street's Green Team intramural took a field trip to Medfield TV to film a public service announcement informing viewers of various recycling tips.  What a great experience!

Congratulations to this week's Positive Referrals!

¿Adivina quién? This week with Señora LeVangie, Grade 4 students had fun guessing the mystery character while reviewing clothing, colors, and descriptions.

Our last Kids Night Out event is here! Please see the link below to sign your child up for tonight's 4th Grade Night. We also need volunteers so we'd appreciate any help you could give! (The sign-up genius link for volunteers is located on the permission slip.)

This week our fourth-grade students visited the New England Aquarium.  Students had a lot of fun learning away from campus.  While visiting the Aquarium, students learned more about ecosystems and habitats, food webs and energy, adaptations and evolution, and climate change and conservation.  What a great trip!

Dale Street is excited to host Medfield author and illustrator, David Biedrzycki on Thursday, June 1st and Friday, June 2nd!  Any families wishing to purchase or personalize books from David Biedrzycki before his visit to Dale Street can send in this book order form by Tuesday, May 23rd.  Checks (made out to David Biedrzycki) are the preferred method of payment.  Please reach out to Library Media Specialist, Julie Lowerre (jlowerre@email.medfield.net) with any questions! Thank you!

Please save the date of Tuesday, June 13th at 9:30 a.m. for Dale Street's Grade 5 Celebration.  This year, the Grade 5 Celebration will take place on the basketball court outdoors and we are hoping for dry and nice weather.  Grade 5 families are welcome and we are asking that all guests bring a lawn chair for seating in an area off the pavement.  If there is inclement weather on this day, the celebration will be held in the gymnasium.  If this is the case, we will only be able to welcome 2 guests per family for the celebration.

Celebration Invitation

Dale Street students will be honoring our veterans and those currently serving our country through music and remarks on Friday, May 26th. The program will be held outside (weather permitting) on the Dale Street side of the building.  The program will begin at 9:25 a.m. and is expected to last approximately 30 minutes.  Upon completion of the program, students will return with their teachers to their classrooms.

This week the Grade 4 trumpets, under the direction of Mrs. Tumbleson, showcased how well they work together and the importance of embracing trial and error as a means of discovery.

May 12, 2023 - Week 33

  Hello Dale Street Families!

Wow - I can't believe we are already halfway through May!  For those who may not be aware, this week was Teacher Appreciation Week.  Please join me in thanking the fabulous staff members we have here at Dale Street.  I feel very proud and privileged to work every day with the most caring, intelligent, and dedicated staff.  They blow me away with all the things they do for our students every single day.  This week was another week with a lot of awesome activities at #beproudbedale.  Take a minute to check out some of the scenes and be sure to check out some of the upcoming dates at the bottom of the blog.

Congratulations to this week's Positive Referrals!

It came to my attention this week that there was confusion and a misunderstanding around what a shelter-in-place actually is in our school. A shelter-in-place means that students and staff need to stay inside their classrooms.  Classes continue as usual, and our staff does everything they can to keep things as normal as possible for our students.  We call a shelter in place for events such as dangerous weather conditions, a utility emergency, or if a student, staff member, or visitor needs medical attention. A shelter-in-place is not a lockdown. A lockdown is very different with completely different protocols for both students and staff.

This week Grade 5 classrooms started their SEED science lessons.  Check out students from Mrs. Ross' and Mrs. Seaver's class participated in some detective work by working on fingerprint analysis.  So cool!  Special thanks to our amazing PTO for funding the Grade 5 SEED science lessons.

A HUGE thank you to our phenomenal PTO for their generosity this week during Staff Appreciation Week.  From snacks to treats, to an incredible lunch today - the week was amazing!

Bravo Ellie, Camryn, and Conor for achieving the highest practice scores in the Grade 5 Band! These students have each completed over 150 practice activities this year. We are very proud of your hard work!
