January 27, 2023 - Week 20

 Hello Dale Street,

Wow, there was a lot of awesomeness packed into this week.  Please take a few minutes to scroll through and check out some of the scenes...

Congratulations to this week's Positive Referral!

Claire was recognized for exemplifying our Core Value of Continuous Growth!

Congratulations to the Dale Street Chorus on their outstanding performance at Tuesday night's concert. The students sounded amazing!

Positive Sign Thursday!

'OUR VOICES HAVE VALUE!'

This week, Dale Street Reading Specialist, Mrs. Callahan visited Ms. Isaacson's fourth-grade class to help them begin their poetry unit by introducing concrete poems.  Students' creativity and engagement were incredible!

This week, grade 5 students participated in live presentations focused on water conservation and stormwater.  These presentations are put on by the Neponset River Watershed Association and funded by the Town of Medfield.

As a reminder, school dismisses at 2:55 p.m.  If you are planning to pick up your child in the afternoon, I am asking families to arrive between 2:55 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.  There have been an increase in traffic issues on Dale Street and North Street and the Medfield Police have asked me to remind families of the dismissal time and request that families arrive between 2:55 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. and not before.  In addition, the Recreation Department has asked that children not be picked up in their parking lot.  It is a very big safety concern.  Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Happening in the Makerspace...5th grade classes are hard at work with Mrs. Loweree creating a Revolutionary War TV Show.  Students have been working in production groups to research, write scripts, create costumes and props, and are now filming these awesome shows.  Such creative ideas, collaboration, and engagement!!

Huge shout out to Axel and Wyler!  These two rockstar students wrote a letter to me advocating for something they thought was unfair.  I am so proud that these students respectfully and maturely advocated for change.  Bravo!

Valentine's Day is fast approaching....very exciting!  In an effort to ensure the safety of all of our students and staff, we are requesting that no food/candy be sent in with Valentine's cards. On Tuesday, February 14th, students will enjoy a “Party in a Bag!” Have your child decorate a brown paper lunch bag with a Valentine’s theme. Once decorated, fill it with a few of your child’s favorite food items. Some examples are: juice box or mini water bottle, small salty snack, fun sweet snack (cupcake, cookie), additional items could be a piece of fruit, a small yogurt, or any additional healthy snack.  Adding a little note to your child's bag will definitely make them happy!  Head Room Parents will be coordinating games/crafts for this day.  The snack time and Valentine's themed activities will take place at different times depending on students’ schedules and will be overseen by classroom teachers.

Thanks to our Friday DJs who kept the lunchroom rockin' today.

Alert - Scientists at Work!  This week students in Mrs. Gutierrez's fourth-grade class worked collaboratively to explore stored energy and circuits.  Will the light bulb light?

January 13, 2023 - Week 18

 Greetings Dale Street Community,

I hope that you all had a fantastic week - we sure did!  Please take a minute to scroll through the awesomeness that took place at Dale Street this week.

This morning Dale Street held a Hero Day assembly.  Students heard about heroes, watched a few short videos, and one student from each classroom shared about their own hero. Students and staff were invited to dress up like their heroes.  Special thanks to our student readers and the Student Council representatives for facilitating the assembly.

Bravo to the Dale Street Bands!  Last night our fourth and fifth-grade bands performed for their family and guests.  The music was outstanding and all of the attendees enjoyed the performance.  Thank you to Mr. Dexter and Mrs. Tumbleson for their outstanding leadership.

On Thursday, Dale Street welcomed a fantastic storyteller from the Rhode Island Black Storytellers.  An interactive storyteller engaged students and staff with great stories and important messages.  Special thanks to our wonderful PTO for funding this awesome performance.

Thank you to Olivia (in Ms. Sager's class and her Mom) for presenting on Chinese New Year this week.  Chinese New Year (Sunday, January 22nd) is the festival that celebrates the beginning of a new year on the traditional lunisolar Chinese calendar.  2023 is the Year of the Rabbit.

'WE ARE DETERMINED!'

Students in Mrs. Flynn's fourth-grade classroom presented their 'bottle buddies' this week. Grade 4 students researched, designed, and created their own bottle buddies of explorers to culminate their study of early exploration of North America.  So cool!

2023 TESTING SCHEDULE
Dale Street's testing schedule is set for the spring.  As always it is most important that students attend school on the days of testing, so please plan appointments in a way that does not interfere with your child being in school on the following testing dates:

ELA Testing

Grade 4 April 4th and April 5th

Grade 5 April 10th and April 11th

STE Testing

Grade 5 May 9th and May 10th

Math

Grade 4 May 11th and May 12th

Grade 5 May 17th and May 18th

This week, students in Ms. Condon's fifth-grade class enjoyed interviewing Ms. Condon's parents. Great discussions and questions! These eager students are now ready to interview their own families to select a topic to research for “History and Me” projects.  Can't wait to read them!

Winter is here!  Please make sure your children come to school dressed appropriately for the cold weather.  Students will have recess OUTSIDE (and possibly PE) if the 'feels like' temperature is 20 or above.  Hats, gloves, and coats are strongly encouraged.  Additionally, students need to have snow boots and snow pants if they want to play in the snow.  Students without snow gear will have to remain on the blacktop.

This week grade 4 students in Mrs. Scott's class used a twist on the game 'Guess Who' to take a deeper dive into fractions.  Special thanks to Dale Street math specialist, Mrs. Perachi for creating this fun and educational activity.

Medfield's Destination Imagination organization is looking for volunteers to be appraisers at either of the regional tournaments (March 4th in Medfield or March 12th in Beverly). It is the perfect opportunity for someone 18 years or older (and out of high school) who would like to spend the day praising the accomplishments of each dedicated and hugely creative Destination Imagination team and awarding as many points as possible. It is truly a fun day spent enjoying the creativity of students in grades 3-12 and is a great community volunteer opportunity for anyone- college students, retired folks, those who have previously participated in Destination
Imagination, etc.). Contact uflindsay@gmail.com for more information and learn about Destination Imagination at destinationimagination.org
