February 16, 2024 - Week 25

 Dear Dale Street,

Happy Vacation! Teachers continue to do great work and our students are meeting high standards and reaching their goals - I am so proud of their effort and determination so far this year! Please take a few minutes to check out some of the awesomeness from this week.

Congratulations to this week's Positive Referrals!

Thursday was an incredible night at the Dale Street Variety Show! From amazing performances to incredible talents, our students showed tremendous courage and skill. Huge shoutout to our amazing emcees, Mrs. Gutierrez and Ms. MacDonnell, Variety Show organizer Mrs. Cazebud, and all the dedicated parent volunteers who made it all possible!

Positive Sign Thursday!

'WE HAVE WHAT IT TAKES!'

March teacher conferences are scheduled for Thursday, March 7th and Friday, March 8th. In-person meetings will be scheduled, however, a virtual option through Zoom will be available upon request. At the March conferences, teachers will be sharing information with you about your child’s academic and social-emotional development over the past few months and will be discussing recommendations/goals for your child over the next few months of school. Families are encouraged to ask questions and provide feedback about their child’s school experience.

Dale Street also highly values parental input. As we look ahead to the 2024-2025 school year, we consider this one of the many essential components in student placement. Parents will have an opportunity to develop a one-page narrative that should provide pertinent information to assist in our placement procedure. Specifics regarding this procedure will be sent home at the beginning of April. Should you have any questions after receiving this information, please do not hesitate to contact me at sgrenham@email.medfield.net. In addition, the Elementary Principals will be hosting a webinar at the end of March to discuss placement if you would like to learn about the process we utilize when placing students. More information will be forthcoming.

We truly hope you take advantage of this opportunity to meet with your child’s teacher and other members of the Dale Street staff at the March conferences. Thank you in advance for collaborating with us and taking an active role in your child’s education.

Kudos to Mrs. Hayes' fifth-grade class for an inspiring SEL assembly on Thursday! Drawing from the book 'Letters to Live By,' students and staff shared powerful ways to embrace Core Values in our daily school life. From kindness to perseverance, their message was fantastic! If you would like to see the slideshow this class created, click here.

I recently had a great meeting with Massachusetts' Safe Routes to School. They have a wonderful opportunity for our Rockstar students. The Safe Routes to School group is sponsoring a Yard Sign Design Contest. The theme this year is bus stop safety. Submissions are open until Friday, February 23rd for students in grades 2-8. Students can scan and email submissions to Rachel.ODonnell2@aecom.com or mail submissions to 1 Federal Street, 8th Floor, Boston, MA 02110. Here is a template, but submissions can be made on any regular 8.5 x 11 piece of paper. However, the page should be oriented in LANDSCAPE format. Multilingual signs are highly encouraged and they offer guidelines in additional languages on their website.

Thanks to our Friday DJs who kept the lunchroom rockin' today.

We are so excited for Read Across America Week, which starts the week of March 4th! Students will see the school decorated, enjoy fun read-alouds, and celebrate how much we love books and reading.

Thank you to all of the students who have been completing the Math Challenges.  Great job! The newest math challenge has been released.  It is due February 28th. Students should turn all math challenges into the office.

This week with Mr. Ahern, Grade 5 students worked on their coding skills using our MCPE grant-funded Spheros. #STEM

Save the date for the 2024 MCPE Spelling Bee!

Monday, March 18th | 4:00-7:30pm

Medfield High School Auditorium

This Spelling Bee is always a ton of F-U-N! In this low-stress team approach to a spelling bee, there is no spelling out loud in front of the crowd. When the moderator reads a word, team members practice T-E-A-M-W-O-R-K to confer and write the correct spelling on a piece of paper. There are several rounds for each age group, and winning teams will be crowned for grades 2-3 and grades 4-5. Kids can sign up as a team of 2-4 students or as a solo speller! And of course, costumes are encouraged!

Cost is $20 per person and each participant will receive a small prize! All proceeds will go to benefit Medfield Public Schools.

Tickets on Sale for MHS Spring Play: PUFFS

March 1-2, Medfield HIgh School Theatre Society will perform its spring show, PUFFS. PUFFS, Or: Seven Increasingly Eventful Years At A Certain School of Magic and Magic, takes place at a pretty famous school with some pretty famous students and alums…but our show isn’t about them. Let’s say.. it’s a play in a place you may know, but people you do not. PUFFS follows three delightful young wizards who did not have famous parents or an evil Dark Lord constantly trying to kill them. Wayne Hopkins, the endearingly ordinary wizard and hero of our story, who loves video games, pop music, and movies. Megan Jones, moody, goth, sarcastic, angry…your typical teenager. And Oliver Rivers, a math prodigy who is very sad to learn this school has no math classes. There’s also a whole host of other hilarious characters who create chaos as our three friends navigate the many twists and turns of life as young wizards. They may start out as just boring “Puffs” but they become so much more.

Perfect for lovers of both magic and tales of underdogs rising to the occasion. PUFFS celebrates themes of friendship, acceptance and the importance of loyalty in a world where some people seem to care more about popularity and winning. Recommended for seven and up for some light innuendo, but use your own discretion. Run time is approximately two hours.

“Puffs (Two Act for Young Wizards)” is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals on behalf of Samuel French, Inc. www.concordtheatricals.com; PUFFS, Or: Seven Increasingly Eventful Years At A Certain School of Magic and Magic by Matt Cox

Tickets are available at: https://www.ticketsource.us/medfield-high-school-theatre-society

Performances will be held March 1 &  2 at 7:00 pm at Medfield High School

In our library, Mrs. Knott and Mrs. Lowerre developed an activity where students had the opportunity to write letters to their favorite authors. I was able to read some of these letters and they were terrific and authentic.

February 9, 2024 - Week 24

Dear Dale Street Families,

Your children continue to do great work on a daily basis and lead by example! Here are a few photographs and highlights from the week as well as some important updates for you.

On a visit to Mr. Douglas' fourth-grade class this week, students were engaged during math centers.

Congratulations to this week's Positive Referral!

Thank you to Abby and Ellen in Mrs.Chamblin's fifth-grade class for sharing this week's book review!

Valentine's Day is next Wednesday. To ensure the safety of all of our students and staff, we are requesting that no food/candy be sent in with Valentine's cards. If a student decides to bring in Valentine's, there should be one for every student in their class. On Wednesday, February 14th, students will enjoy a “Party in a Bag!” Have your child decorate a brown paper lunch bag with a Valentine’s theme. Once decorated, fill it with a few of your child’s favorite food items. Some examples are: juice box or mini water bottle, small salty snack, fun sweet snack (cupcake, cookie), additional items could be a piece of fruit, a small yogurt, or any additional healthy snack.  Adding a little note to your child's bag will definitely make them happy!  Head Room Parents will be coordinating a game or craft during snack time for this day.

¿Qué te gusta beber/comer? This week in World Language with Señora LeVangie, Grade 5 students created restaurant menus and then observed their classmates’ orders.

This week was School Counseling Week.  Please join me in thanking Dale Street's amazing Guidance Counselor, Mrs. Maloney for the wonderful work she does each day.

February 2, 2024 - Week 22

 Greetings Dale Street Community,

It is hard to believe that we only have two school weeks before February vacation, especially with all the hard work and determination that students and staff continue to display here at #beproudbedale.  I am so proud of each and every one of them!  Please take a minute to see some photos from this week, as well as stay up-to-date with some important school information.

Over the next 2 weeks, Dale Street fifth-graders will be diving deep into discussions with people from the Neponset River Watershed Association on water conservation and stormwater. Big thanks to the Town of Medfield for funding this important program.

Students and staff are invited to participate in the Dale Street School March Madness Free Throw Shooting Contest.  The contest begins Tuesday, February 27th. Click here for more information.  Registration deadline is Friday, February 9th

As a twist to their learning this week, Grade 4 classes walked up to Starbucks and back to give a real-life look at how far a kilometer is. They walked it, timed it, thought about it, and now can relate to it! 📏

On Wednesday, we had a visit from a player on the Harlem Wizards. This visit brought a lot of energy. Not only did the event provide a wonderful experience for our students, but it also helped support the high school PTO.
