April 30, 2021 - Week 28

Greetings Dale Street Families,

What a fabulous week back!  The students and staff transitioned smoothly and there were so many exciting events happening around #beproudbedale this week.  Take a look.....

Congratulations to our Positive Referrals!

This week students in Ms. Hayes'/Mrs. Newton's and Ms. Plympton's fourth-grade classes dove deeper into science as they were tasked with assembling electromagnetics - success!

The Class of 2024 Student Government is selling Medfield flags to raise money for their class! The flags cost $25.00 and are a standard 3 x 5 feet. They are perfect for decorating houses, hanging in rooms, or even decorating cars for the Senior Rolling Rally. Checks should be made out to the Town of Medfield and delivered to Medfield High School 88 R South Street no later than Thursday, May 6th, so order quick! Orders can be placed by clicking the link below and filling out the form. Be on the lookout for scanning a QR code on flyers found around the school and town shops!

Last Tuesday, Dale Street students (ones who completed a consent form) participated in our first day of pool testing.  Our ROCKSTARS were, as usual, awesome! Special thanks to Mrs. Thompson and the Medfield nurses for organizing and conducting the testing and Dr. Marsden for securing this opportunity.  If you would like more information, please click here.

Please note the dates of the upcoming MCAS tests.  It is most important that students attend school on the days of testing, so please plan appointments in a way that does not interfere with your child being in school on the following testing dates:

Grade 4 - May 19th

Science, Technology, and Engineering

Students and staff share Library Media Specialist, Ms. Sweeney's happiness with our MCPE funded couches being put back into our library!

This week students in Mr. Douglas' fourth-grade class took their learning outdoors.  Students to a deeper dive into symmetry by participating in a scavenger hunt.  My favorite part was seeing students create various drawings that showed symmetry.

Special thanks to Audrey's (in Mrs. Flynne's fourth-grade class) dad who volunteered to be their first 'Mystery Reader' of the year!  This is a wonderful tradition in Mrs. Flynne's classroom and the students loved it!

Celebrate Blue Ribbon Day 2021 and recognize a special teacher or staff member for making a difference in a student's life!
MCPE’s Blue Ribbon Recognition Program honors teachers and school staff for making a difference in a student’s life. This year, families can sign up to participate in Blue Ribbon Day by donating $10 for each participating student.
Each student will receive our limited edition 2020/2021 “I did it with the help of my Blue Ribbon Teacher” t-shirt along with two blue ribbon note cards for students to write a note of thanks to teachers, bus drivers, specialists, or other staff members who have made a difference in their year. #OneMedfield

A message from an MHS senior looking for help with her senior project...

Attention families of Medfield, I need your help!

My name is Mimi Orio and I’m doing a project in partnership with the SEL committee, the goal is to construct a short video showcasing the silver lining of this year. We have all been through so much hardship due to this pandemic and I think highlighting some positives, whether it be spending more time with family, or picking up a new hobby would be a much appreciated breath of fresh air. I am currently a high school senior and because of that, I know seniors, and not too many other people. That’s why I need your help!

I have some things in the works with schools already but I would love some submissions from families. I want this video to include the whole community, even parents:) If you feel you would like to be a part of this please send in a brief video answering one or two of your favorites of these questions :

What did you watch?

What did you cook?

Where did you walk?

What did you read?

What did you build?

What did you listen to?

What will you miss about quarantine?

(or anything else you would like to share)

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this, if you have any questions or video submissions (Fingers crossed you do ;)) my email is: morio2021@email.medfield.net

I had the pleasure of visiting one of our Grade 5 ensembles on Wednesday.  These students played beautifully!

April 16, 2021 - Week 27

 Hello Dale Street Community,

We have made it to April vacation.  I am beyond amazed at the work that the students and staff at Dale Street have done this year.  In the face of a pandemic, our rockstar students and staff have persevered to create and participate in fabulous learning opportunities.  I am so proud of them and am so proud to be the principal of this great school.  Please take a minute to scroll through and check out some of the awesomeness and updates from this week.

Congratulations to these students for applying for and being accepted as this year's Chromebook Captains!  These students will be staying after school one day a week and oversee our school’s Chromebooks (charging carts at the end of each day, sanitizing devices, ensuring the Chromebooks and all cords are in good working order, and alerting the office if there is a missing or damaged Chromebook).

Grade 5, Cohort D students were scientists this week.  Mrs. Dowd's students had a 'blast' while exploring chemical reactions.

Congratulations to these wonderful students who received Positive Referrals this week for demonstrating Dale Street's Core Values!

On a visit to Mrs. Nee's fifth-grade classroom this week, I watched as students took a deeper dive into finding the volume of rectangular prisms.  I particularly liked the problems that had a missing variable.  These young learners are so talented!

Congratulations to the Dale Street 4th Grade DI team who won FIRST PLACE in the statewide tournament last weekend and are “going” to Globals this summer, which will be virtual. Many thanks to the Dale Community for supporting the service portion of their challenge. Dale Street students include Maddie, Elizabeth, Katie, and Kacey.

This week, Grade 5 students in Ms. McKenzie's class worked collaboratively, using non-fiction articles, to summarize the author's main ideas.  Students then created slideshows to share with their classmates.  This assignment connected with Earth Day (coming up on April 22nd).

The Winner of the Tournament of Books competition is...Greta and the Giants by Zoe Tucker!   Thank you to our LMC staff, Ms. Sweeney and Mrs. Cole, for their work in putting together this fun competition for our students!

This week, Health teacher, Ms. Laughna and our Grade 4 students wrapped up their bones and muscles unit by doing different stretches and exercises and determining what muscles they’re using!

Check out these 3-D models showcasing the water cycle created by Ms. Condon's fifth-grade students. Even better...this design challenge was a student’s idea.  So cool!

The Dale Street Math Challenge is on!  Students are free to solve as many problems as they can and will have about a week to turn in their work. Students can hand in a hard copy of the challenge to the office or email it to Mrs. Perachi (bperachi@email.medfield.net) prior to the due date.

On Wednesday, Grade 5 students in Ms. Johnson's class worked together during their Sanford Harmony lesson (our social-emotional curriculum).  These rockstars were tasked with coming up with solutions to resolve a variety of conflicts.  Each group's solution was made into a skit.  Great real-world connection!

Exciting Miss Amazing news! The seventh annual Miss Amazing will take place in person on Sunday, May 2nd, with a rain date of Saturday, May 1st! Miss Amazing’s mission statement declares, “Miss Amazing provides opportunities for girls and women with disabilities to build confidence and self-esteem in a supportive environment.” Many thanks to Medfield Parks and Recreation for allowing the event to take place at Hinkley Pond free of charge. Their generosity and kindness are incredibly appreciated! Even though the event will look different this year with no public audience, there are still ways to support the cause and get involved. We encourage everyone to participate in our Italian Groceria fundraiser on Wednesday, April 14th, from 5 to 8 pm. A percentage of their profit will be donated directly to Miss Amazing. We hope to see you there!

Ezra, in Mr. Davange's Cohort D fourth grade class gave an end-of-the-day drawing tutorial this afternoon to celebrate all their hard work before vacation.  Bravo, Ezra
