September 22, 2017 - Week 4

Hello Dale Street!

AN IMPORTANT NOTE TO PARENTS

It has come to our attention that some of our students are being signed out as walkers and then proceeding to meet their parents in the parking lot, and in some cases, across the street.  Needless to say this presents a very serious safety concern as students are sometimes crossing the street in areas absent of a crossing guard, or in other cases, running into the parking lot weaving between cars at the same time vehicles are leaving from parent pick-up. There have been numerous concerns voiced by teachers, parents, and the Medfield Police Department regarding this situation.  We ask for your help to ensure all of the students at Dale Street remain safe.  We understand that families are making multiple pick-ups at various schools.  Mrs. Barrett and I are more than happy to keep your child(ren) safe in the office until you arrive here at Dale Street.

Dale Street's Makerspace

Throughout this week and continuing next week, students were (and will be) involved with a really cool design thinking activity.  "The Wild Robot Prosthesis Challenge" gave students the opportunity to take Dale Street's summer read and integrate an innovator's mindset. The task.....How will you design a leg for Roz?

Congratulations to our Positive Referral this week.  Thank you for making our school such a great place!   We are very proud of you!

Thank you, Medfield, for visiting our booth on Medfield Day.  Just another reminder of what an incredible community we have.  We have also received great feedback from parents about the movie we debuted on PIN nights.  So happy to show off so many of the incredible ways we have helped put your dollars to work in our five schools!

SAVE THE DATE! Our fun and fierce Community Trivia Night will, once again, be held on Friday November 3 at the Medfield Legion. Sign-ups begin on 9/25. Get your teams of 4 together now, this is typically a sold-out event!

In Spanish this week with Señora DellaMonica, grade 4 students used their new Spanish names to practice introductions.  What a great way to model our Core Value of Collaboration

Check out the PTO Update, which includes information on volunteer opportunities, fundraisers and more!

Students in Mrs. Flynn's class shared their 'Mathematically Me' projects this week.  What amazing and creative presentations!

The Dale Street School Intramural Program offers students opportunities for fun and learning in a relaxed setting of an after school or before school club.  The fall session will begin the week of September 25th.

Students pay a fee for each Intramural activity (district policy= $8 per class x number of classes and $10 per class for languages.)  Please note that the activity fee is non-refundable.  Some activities may have an additional materials fee (see attached Activity Schedule Sheet) which is included in the fee.

The Intramural program will have club sign ups online.   The link to the online form is located on the Dale St. Web page under Activities, then click Intramurals.  Please have your child make their choice,  fill out the online form and return payment in an envelope labeled “Intramural Program”.  The payment must be returned to school in order to complete the registration:  Payment can be either cash or check. Please make check(s) payable to:  Medfield Public Schools.  (Provide a separate payment for each activity )

Note: the last day to register is Friday, September 22nd.

Activities are limited in the number of participants, and we will do our best to accommodate your child's first choice.  Some activities are scheduled on the same date so students should choose their activity carefully.  All placements are on a first come first served basis.

Each activity runs according to the dates listed on the Activity Selection Sheet. Typically the programs are 3 PM to 4:30 PM.  Children must be picked up no later than 4:30 PM at the Adams St./Office area.  Any child who will not be picked up by an adult will need a hand written note with permission to walk or the name of person who is picking up your child and present it to the Intramural teacher at the beginning of class.

Special thanks to Greta in Ms. Condon's class for reading our Friday book recommendation.  Greta recommended The Mother Daughter Book Club Series by Heather Vogel Frederick because "it shows girls lives from their point of view from 6th grade to college."  Greta rated this series 5 stars.

Take a look at these Dale Street students - these students and their shirts highlight Dale Street's messages.

As always, thank you for reading.  Have a great weekend!

Sincerely,
Steve
