February 15, 2019 - Week 24

Hello Dale Street!

On Wednesday, grade four students participated in a super fun rock investigation presented by the Museum of Science! Special thanks to the PTO for providing this wonderful opportunity for our students and staff!

It was all about design thinking in Ms. Bertschmann's fifth grade classroom on Thursday.  Students chose between a variety of activities to show their understanding of the water cycle. What a fun and individualized way to learn!

Check out these awesome #beproudbedale students.  They used virtual coding to "deliver" their Valentines.

Congratulations to our Positive Referrals!  These students were "caught" modeling our Core Values.  We are so proud of you!

Students in Mrs. Dowd's fourth grade classroom had fun this week with PE teacher, Ms. Laughna practicing their volleyball skills.

The next Principal's Coffee will be held on Friday, March 8th, at 8:45 a.m. in the Dale Street School cafeteria.  We will be sharing information on the placement process for the 2019-2020 school year.  Please RSVP if you are planning to attend.  Please note that if you are stuck for child care, please feel free to bring your little ones. We will be providing refreshments for this presentation.

This week, Mrs. LeVangie's fifth grade World Language class had great conversations about what they like to eat and drink - ¿Qué te gusta beber/comer?

Thanks to Maren in Mrs. Foley's class for reading today's book recommendation.  Maren recommended Smart Cookie by Elly Swartz for "someone who loves realistic fiction."  Maren rated this book 5 out of 5 stars!  Thanks Maren!

When we are too focused on grades and performance, we deny our children the time and energy they need to tackle the demanding work of growing up. In this interactive video presentation with Challenge Success Co-Founder Denise Pope, you’ll learn how you can establish a healthier home environment for your school-aged child, reduce academic stress without sacrificing achievement, and increase your child’s resilience, creativity, and well-being. After viewing the video, we’ll break into small groups for age-specific discussions.

February 8, 2019 - Week 23

Hello Dale Street!

Wow - what an amazing week!  The Patriots win the Super Bowl again, we celebrated our 100th day of school on Tuesday, and had plenty of awesomeness in all of the Dale Street classrooms.  I hope you can take a minute to scroll through and check it out.

Mr. Mason's fifth grade class recently began a Book Buddies session with Mrs. Ravinski's first grade class at the Memorial School.  What a great way to collaborate with fellow MPS students.

Math Challenge 9 is available now! Visit mathinaction.org/dale-st-school… to print the problems. Paper copies available in room 9. Solutions due 2/11!

On Tuesday, many teachers took advantage of the fabulous weather and hit the road using our walking classrooms.  In the pictures below Ms. Costello's fifth grade classroom listened to the branches of  government and Mr. Douglas' fourth grade classroom listened to interesting topics on Marco Polo and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. What a fun way to learn!

Valentine's Day is fast approaching....very exciting!  In an effort to ensure safety for all of our students and staff, we are requesting that no food/candy be sent in with Valentine's cards. The Head Room Parent will be coordinating this effort.  Please keep food and drink to these four categories: something crunchy, something sweet, healthy fruit, and water. Additionally, please be sensitive of allergies within classrooms.  The snack time and the Valentine's themed activities will take place at different times depending on students’ schedules and will be planned/overseen by classroom teachers. Thank you in advance for your assistance to help create a fun and safe day at Dale Street!

GOTR registration for Spring is open!  Here is the link to register:

Participants will meet each Tuesday and Thursday from 3:00 - 4:15 starting in Mid March.

Thanks to Michael in Mrs. Scott's class for reading today's book recommendation.  Michael recommended Amulet Supernova by Kazu Kibuishi, for "someone who likes Harry Potter or Star Wars."  Michael rated this book '6.5 out of 5 stars!'  Thanks Michael!

Registration is now open for the Dale Street Second Annual Free Throw Shooting Contest.  Please click here for all the information.  Registration is due by Friday, 2/15.

Ms. Isaacson's fourth grade classroom had a blast using Flipgrid to respond to reading this week.  They are talented young learners!

Our next Elementary Guidance Coffee is scheduled for March 1 from 8:30am-9:30am in the Dale Street LMC.  The coffee is focused on supporting students in youth sports and we will have 3 coaches/guidance counselors as guest speakers.  Please RSVP if you are able to attend.

Check out the artwork of Dale Street fifth graders.  This week, students used their imaginations and knowledge of color theory to camouflage a photo in their paintings.

Please read this message from our school nurse,

Kathy Thompson RN, about flu prevention and what to do if you child is diagnosed with the flu.

I have had a blast visiting all Dale Street classrooms and reading the book The Legend of Rock, Paper, Scissors.  The message that if you do not feel you are being challenged enough, remember to keep seeking out others who will challenge you and help you grow really highlights our Core Value of Continuous Growth. The class battle of rock, paper, scissor battle that followed the book was so cool!

It's time to purchase your 5th grade yearbook!  Click here to order.
