October 6, 2017 - Week 6

Dear Dale Street Community,

I am happy to report that beginning of October at Dale Street started off wonderfully.  I am so happy to share some of the exciting activities and news that took place this week.

In Ms. Isaacson's fourth grade classroom this week, students used the game Pictionary to gain a better understanding of their word study words.  What a fun way to learn!

The Principal of the Johnson Elementary School in Natick and their Digital Learning Coach visited Dale Street last Wednesday.  The educators from Natick have been impressed with the many things they have heard about Dale Street's Library Media Center and wanted to see it for themselves.
Thanks to Lily in Ms. MacDonald's class for reading this week's book recommendation.  Lily recommended The Penderwicks by Jeanne Birdsall.  Lily gave this book 5 stars.  Thanks Lily!

The MCPE is turning 30!!  Be on the lookout for more details in your mailbox.  We want to remind everyone of our ongoing book drive in partnership with Park Street Books.  Bring in your nearly-new children's books to Park Street and mention the MCPE fundraiser.  Depending on their condition and popularity, a donation will be made to MCPE so we can continue funding innovation in our schools.  Books that don't meet condition requirements will be given to Children's Hospital - it's a win win!  See flyer in the Thursday packet for details.

SAVE THE DATE!  The annual MCPE Spelling Bee will be held on Tuesday May 1st for grades 2-5 at MHS.

Students in Ms. MacDonald's fourth class worked with the FOSS science kit this week.  The essential question for the students: What does it take to light a bulb? What a fun, hands-on way to learn science.

Please be aware that picture retakes will take place on Friday, October 27th.  Students who would like a retake need to return their entire packet minus the class photo on the day of the retake.

Special thanks to all of the Dale Street parents who have volunteered to be room parents this year.  The annual Room Parent Tea took place this past Wednesday and we are lucky to have such dedicated parents!
Check out the PTO Update which includes information about PTO fundraisers, volunteer positions, the Medfield Talks Series, and more!

As many of you are aware, a tremendous amount of families were devastated by catastrophic weather over the last few months. As a way to connect our students to the world around us and demonstrate one of Dale Street’s Core Values, compassion, the Dale Street Student Advisory Council is spearheading a collection for members of the Fehl-Price Elementary School in Beaumont, Texas. We have been in contact with the school and they are extremely grateful that the Dale Street community has decided to support their community. Donations will be collected from October 2nd - October 20th.    Items we are collecting: Backpacks, Socks, Girl and boy underwear(sizes 4-14), jackets or sweaters  (4-18), School Supplies.

SEPAC News

The KidStuff coupon book fundraiser is underway. Your support helps SEPAC fund workshops, events for kids and families, and scholarships. If you are interested in purchasing a book, please contact Kate Tormey at Kate.tormey@outlook.com.

Special thanks to our friends at Noon Hill Grill for supporting the Dale Street luncheon today.  The food was amazing!

The first Dale Street Site Council Meeting will take place on Thursday, October 19th at 3:15 PM in the Dale Street LMC.

There is no school on Monday, October 9th
in observance of Columbus Day.

Enjoy your long weekend and we will see our Rock Stars back on Tuesday.

Sincerely,
Steve
