September 29, 2023 - Week 5

 Dear Dale Street Families,

Despite it being a short week, the #beproudbedale students and staff made the most of every moment.  As you will see, this past week was filled with exciting, productive, and fun activities.  Please take a moment to enjoy some highlights and stay informed about upcoming dates and events.

Congratulations to this week's Positive Referral!

On Wednesday, students and staff participated in the PTO-sponsored Rainbow Run! It was an amazing day!  The weather, the music, and the smiles made for an incredible day.  This day would not have been possible without the efforts of Kelly Scobbo, Nicole Drummond, Jodi Bills, Nesse McCabe, the PTO volunteers, and all the families who made pledges for the event. Thank you!

Due to the rain last weekend, Yoga on the Turf is RESCHEDULED for this Sunday, October 1st at 12 p.m. at the high school turf. September is Suicide Awareness Month and the Medfield Coalition for Suicide Prevention (MCSP) is hosting our 7th annual Yoga on The Turf on Sunday, October 1st at 12 p.m. at the high school turf. Tracy Buckley of Medfield Yoga Studio will host the class. The class is FREE, but donations to support the work and mission of the MCSP are greatly appreciated. MCSP works to promote the mental health and emotional well-being of all community members, to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and educate our community to help end suicide. Open to ALL AGES and ALL LEVELS; beginners are more than welcome! Bring your own mat and water bottle. Thank you for supporting the Medfield Coalition for Suicide Prevention.

This week students in Mrs. Scott's fourth grade kicked off their fraction unit. Students and staff are enjoying our new Illustrative Math program.

Elementary Spirit Day

Friday, October 6th, is School Spirit Day.  All students and staff are encouraged to dress in Medfield gear or Medfield colors.

Special thanks to Mason in Ms. Isaacson's fourth-grade class for sharing our first book review of the year.  Mason selected Leon the Extraordinary by Jamar Nicholas.  Thank you, Mason!

Positive Sign Thursday!

2024 TESTING SCHEDULE
Dale Street's testing schedule is set for the spring.  As always it is most important that students attend school on the days of testing, so please plan appointments in a way that does not interfere with your child being in school on the following testing dates:

ELA Testing

Grade 4 April 9th and April 11th

Grade 5 April 5th and April 10th

Math

Grade 4 May 7th and May 9th

Grade 5 May 8th and May 10th

STE Testing

Grade 5 May 14th and May 17th

So impressed with our students' musical abilities! Each week grade levels meet as large group ensembles. They are terrific! Here are the Grade 4 Brass Ensemble (top) and the Grade 5 Orchestra (bottom). I can't wait for the concerts!

The MCPE 2023 Fall Fest is officially sold out! But good news…if you weren’t able to snag tickets, you can join the waitlist. If any tickets become available, we'll get in touch with you in the order we received submissions.

Whether or not you can make it to Fall Fest, you can still purchase limited-edition Medfield merch and support our schools! MCPE is excited to offer a limited-run of special edition Medfield items to celebrate Fall Fest and keep you snuggly warm at all your outdoor fall events. All pre-orders will be available for pick up at Fall Fest on October 20th. If you will not be at Fall Fest, or plans change and you can’t make it that evening, you will be contacted with additional pickup options after October 20th.

Pre-orders will close on October 3rd, so please order today! We will have a limited number of items available for purchase at Fall Fest, so place a pre-order to guarantee availability and avoid disappointment (and the chilly air!).

Note: Images are representative items only and are not photos of actual product samples.

Thanks to our Friday DJ's who kept the lunchroom rockin' today.

September 22, 2023 - Week 4

Hello Dale Street Community!

I am thrilled to share that we've had an amazing week filled with collaboration, engaging activities, and fun at #beproudbedale! Our #rockstar students and staff have made the transition into this school year with incredible enthusiasm. Please take a moment to enjoy some highlights from this week and stay informed about some upcoming dates and events.

There is no school on Monday, September 25th
 in observance of Yom Kippur.

It has been great visiting classrooms and watching the implementation of our new math program, Illustrative Math.  On Monday, students in Ms. MacDonnell's fourth-grade class were involved in a number talk to begin their math lesson.  Such great conversations and ideas!

You should have received this email regarding intramurals last week. Intramural sign-ups/registration will begin on Tuesday, September 26th. Classes are slated to start the week of October 2nd.

This week with Mrs. Delaney, Dale Street students sketched some great ideas for our upcoming Core Value murals.  These students are so talented - I can't wait to see the finished work!

Congratulations to this week's Positive Referrals!

We are very excited to announce that again this year all 4th and 5th-grade students will have the opportunity to complete biweekly math challenges.  Math challenges will be available to print at home from the website linked below.

Students will be free to solve as many problems as they can and will have about a week to turn in their work. We hope that all students and families find these problems to be a challenging and fun activity.

More information, including a calendar of important dates and a link to download and print the challenges and solutions, is available here. Any questions regarding the math challenge program can be directed to Dale Street math specialist, Ms. Perachi.

The first Challenge begins today and is due on 10/4

Scientists at work!! This week students in Mrs. Gutierrez's fourth-grade class made observations discovering how rocks get weathered over time. Exploration=Fun

Red, orange, yellow, green....the 2nd Annual Medfield K-5 Rainbow Run is September 26th @ Wheelock & September 27th @ Dale & Memorial!! All students in Kindergarten through 5th grade will run/walk during the school day on a rainbow-filled track. The music will be rocking, the rainbow gear is ready to go and that is just the beginning of the fun!

We are ready - now it is your turn. Head to https://secure.frontstream.com/medfield-k-5-pto-rainbow-run-2023 to register your student for free and learn all about the activities, prizes, and how your support continues to make a difference in our schools.

Check out this important information sheet that was emailed out today and this video that students saw on the Daily Dale this week.

'YOU ARE IMPORTANT!'

This week in the Makerspace with Mrs. Lowerre, Grade 4 students collaborated to design a pool slide that included at least 1 twist & met specific height requirements. #creativity

A new school year is upon us: new classrooms, new teachers, and new opportunities to make a difference. The Medfield Coalition for Public Education (MCPE) is thrilled to begin another year fundraising with this amazing community, and supporting the incredible Medfield Public Schools!

First up, Fall Fest is back! On Friday, October 20 join us at The German Club in Walpole for live music, drinks, and dancing with friends under the night sky. This relaxed, outdoor event is always a big draw and serves as a highlight of the Medfield social calendar – and a great opportunity to fundraise for Medfield Public Schools. Come enjoy this chance to spend a special night out with a group of friends or neighbors, and to reconnect with other parents.

Ticket sales kick off this Saturday, September 23 at 10am online and at the MCPE booth at Medfield Day. Tickets are $50 each; availability is limited and this event typically sells out quickly. Drop by our booth to say hello and get your Fall Fest tickets before they sell out!

Today, students in Mrs. Ross' fifth-grade class worked together learning the many ways to write expressions to represent the volume of composite figures.
