March 31, 2023 - Week 28

 Hello Dale Street Community,

I hope that you had a spectacular week - we sure did!  There is a lot packed into this week's blog - take a look at some of the awesomeness that students and staff were involved in this week.

There was a lot of excitement at the High School on Tuesday night as 36 Dale Street student teams participated in the MCPE Spelling Bee.  All the teams did a fantastic job and their costumes were awesome!  Special thanks to the Dale Street teacher volunteers, Jim James for moderating, and the always supportive MCPE for organizing this fun event.

Congratulations to the Spananas - Tyler, Owen, and Brooke for winning the 2023 MCPE Spelling Bee!

"WE KNOCK IT OUT OF THE PARK"

We have made it to the Final Four of our March Madness Tournament.  Updated scores were posted in the cafeteria during lunch yesterday.  Our Final Four teams should shoot their 10 free throws on Tuesday, April 4th, between 8:00 a.m. - 8:20 a.m.

Thank you to everyone who attended last Wednesday's webinar focusing on placement for the 2023-2024 school year.  If you were unable to make it to the live presentation, here is a link to the recording.  If you would like to view the slide deck that was used during the presentation, you can find that here.

Today, this letter was sent out to Grade 4 families offering parents the opportunity to share information about their child for next year’s placement at Dale Street.  The information that you share will be used to assist me with the student placement process for the 2023 – 2024 school year.  When corresponding about placement, parents are asked to focus on the type of learning environment that best meets the strengths and needs of their child.  Please know that throughout the placement process, our focus will be on placing your child in a classroom in which they will grow both academically and socially.  Parent input narratives should be sent in no later than Friday, April 14th.  For other suggestions regarding the parent narrative, please see the slide deck link listed above.

This week, students in Mrs. Guiteriez's fourth-grade participated in a Greek Mythology Reading Relay.  Students worked on the skill of finding evidence to prove their answers.

Earlier this week, Grade 5 classes took a field trip to Lowell Mills.  During their trip, students had opportunities to learn about weaving on a loom, the steps of engineering, child labor laws, how assembly lines work, and the importance of water in helping make the machines run.  They also enjoyed a trolley ride, experiments, an engineering challenge, and separating the seeds from the cotton plant. Check out some of the photos...

March 24, 2023 - Week 27

 Hello Dale Street Community!

It is amazing to think that next week is the last week of March.  Time certainly flies when you are having fun.  What a wonderful week!  Check out some of the awesomeness from our #beproudbedale students and staff this week......

This morning, Grade 4 students in Ms. DiPesa's classroom facilitated a fantastic student-led Social Emotional Learning assembly sharing calming strategies students could use when they become upset.  Bravo!

Congratulations to this week's Positive Referrals!

Thank you to all the Dale Street families who came out to Family Literacy Night earlier this week.  There were so many amazing opportunities for the students and their families. Special thanks to Jamee Callahan for organizing such a great event, our fabulous PTO, the wonderful volunteers, Jim James, and the many, many families who attended!

The Elite 8 of our March Madness Tournament happens next week.  Updated scores will be posted in the cafeteria on Monday during lunch.  Students and staff who made it to the Elite 8 will need to shoot 10 free throws on: Tuesday, 3/28, between 7:50 a.m. - 8:20 a.m.

Did you know that in coordination with our free throw shooting contest, Dale Street has a Tournament of Books going on?  Mrs. Lowerre and Mrs. Knott have created this awesome visual representing student feedback about our 'Battle of the Books.'  Over the last round, most books 'moved on' by less than 10 votes!

On Wednesday, Mrs. Chamblin's/Mrs. Kaplin's fifth-grade class took advantage of the nice weather to do some outdoor learning.  Students worked together to analyze data and create line plots.

For the month of March, the Dale Street Student Council has voted to collect items for Boston Children's Hospital!  The Student Council is asking students to bring new (packaged) arts and crafts materials as well as gift cards elementary-aged students may be able to use.  We will begin collecting on Monday, March 6th, and will continue until Thursday, March 30th.

Thanks to our Friday DJs who kept the lunchroom rockin' today.

Elementary Principal Webinar

Next Wednesday, March 29th at 4:30PM, the three elementary principals will be hosting a Student Placement Webinar for interested families. We will be discussing the placement process and parental input process for the 2023-2024 school year.  We hope you will be able to join us.  However, if not, the webinar will be recorded and shared with anyone unable to attend. If you have a specific question you would like addressed, or if there is a particular placement topic you would like discussed, please complete this form by Sunday, March 26th.

Another week - another group of fourth grade students enjoying the PTO-funded Root Robots.  This week, Dale Street Technology Integrationist, Mr. Ahern visited Ms. Isaacson's class to introduce this fun learning tool.  Needless to say, they were a huge hit!

Are your kids excited yet?

MCPE’s annual Spelling Bee will be held on Tuesday, March 28 at the Medfield High School auditorium. Students in grades 2-5 will practice T-E-A-M-W-O-R-K while putting their heads together to spell increasingly challenging words. All while in costume, of course. This Spelling Bee is always a ton of F-U N!

Help us paint the town blue!

Have you been spotting all those blue mailbox ribbons around town and wondering how to get yours? There’s still time to make a gift to the MCPE 35th Anniversary Appeal! Through the 35th Anniversary Appeal, MCPE is raising community support to fund one ambitious project at each of the five Medfield schools that will make a real difference in our students' educational experience. Every Medfield residence that makes a charitable contribution to the 35th Anniversary Appeal will receive a blue ribbon placed on their mailbox, showcasing support for Medfield Public Schools and proudly helping us paint the town blue!

DALE STREET SCHOOL is seeking funding for a movable soundproof partition in the library and maker space that will allow for more flexible use of very limited space. This wall will allow the excitement, collaboration, and student growth to continue in our Makespace while providing a more quiet academic setting in our Library.

Your donation today will support this project and the projects at the other four Medfield schools. Click here to learn more and donate today!

Scientists at work!!! This week, students in Grade 4 started their unit on waves.  In the photos below, students in Mrs. Dowd's class and students in Mrs. Scott's class had the opportunity to create their own telephones to demonstrate moving voice vibrations.  Well done!

Movie Night

The School Committee and the Medfield Energy Committee are co-sponsoring the movie “Catching the Sun’ on solar energy.  Solar energy is an important part of Medfield’s Climate Action Plan. Learn how the transition to solar power is taking shape in many diverse communities.

The movie will be shown twice - Monday night March 27th at 7pm in the Medfield High School auditorium and again on Sunday, April 2nd at 1pm in the Medfield Library meeting room.  Please join us.
