June 15, 2018 - Week 39

Greetings Dale Community!

What an awesome last full week of school.  Thank you to everyone who supported the schools last Monday!  I was so excited when I heard the results and I must tell you that the feeling in Dale Street all week was amazing!

On Thursday we hosted Dale Street's Grade 5 Celebration. It was a great event!  The speakers were wonderful, Mr. Stevens and Mrs. Carey's message was poignant, and the song 'Memories' was terrific! Here are a few snapshots from the day.

We had a great Transition Day at Dale Street this morning.  Such a bittersweet day - we will certainly miss our fifth graders very much, but we are so excited to see our future fourth graders!

Grade 5 students had the chance to visit Blake Middle School today.  Many students came back very excited for the next step in their educational journey.

Mr. Douglass fourth grade class spent some time in the #beproudbedale Makerspace on Thursday.  Students earned this open time because Mr. D.'s students had the highest classroom book circulation (1,600+)!  Way to go!

Check out the last PTO update for the year.  Don't forget to order your PTO School Supply Kit for the 2018-2019 school year!

to the newest #beproudbedale teachers.  From left to right: Ms. Mary Laughna (Health and PE), Mrs. Erica Ross (Grade 4), Ms. Raelyn Carlyle (Grade 5), and Ms. Erin Costello (Grade 5).  We are fortunate to have them.

On Tuesday, a group of students from Dale Street - 'The Medfield Community Warriors' donated this amazing 'Little Free Library' and these awesome best sellers!  What a wonderful group of girls who wanted to give back to our school.  We are eternally grateful!

Congratulations to Mr. Douglas' and Mrs. Flynn's fourth grade classes for hosting a wonderful state fair on Tuesday.  Students were very prepared and very informative.

Summer Skills Book
Many students have found it beneficial to work on strengthening math and/or language arts skills over the summer months.  For many years we have used a series of workbooks published by a company called Summer Skills.  These books have been successful in helping students practice and sharpen their skills.  Please be aware that some questions contained in the workbooks may cover topics that have been introduced but not yet mastered.  As a school, we feel that summer work is beneficial, as studies show that much of what is learned during the school year is lost over the summer months; however, this book is entirely OPTIONAL.

The Pre-K-12 #MedfieldPS community is excited to embrace the theme of LOVE as our first ever “One Community, One Theme” for the 2018-19 school year!

Beginning this summer, the PreK-5 community will be reading the book Love by

Matt de la Peña in preparation of his visit in March 2019 thanks to K-5 PTO & MCPE.

If you would like to access this book online, this link  https://youtu.be/nrkTxSHPrEw) will bring you to a video of Matt de la Peña and Loren Long reading the book.

We would love students to read as much as possible this summer, so here is a compilation of different titles that the teachers and students love from each grade level PreK-5! Enjoy!

Check out Matt de la Peña's video that he created for us to help build excitement about the book and his visit!!
to Mrs. Carey and Mrs. Curran as they will retire at the end of this school year.
Please join me in wishing both of these wonderful educators continued success in their new endeavors. They have affected the lives of countless students and staff members at Dale Street and their legacies will remain. We will miss you.

Don't forget to check the lost and found for any missing sweatshirts, hats, water bottles, etc.  All unclaimed items will be donated to charity on the last day of school.

If you know that your child will not be attending Medfield Public Schools for the next school year, please let the office know for the placement process.

On behalf of all of the employees at the Dale Street School, I would like to wish all of the fathers and grandfathers a Happy Father's Day.

This will be the last Dale Street blog of the school year.  Thank you to all for checking in each week.  On behalf of the entire Dale Street staff, I wish all of you a sensational summer vacation!

June 8, 2017 - Week 38

Hello Dale Street,

What a fantastic week here at #beproudbedale!  It is amazing to think there are only 5 and a half days remaining in the '17-'18 school year.  Time certainly flies when you are having fun!
A HUGE thank you to MCPE auction winner, Kara for being "Principal for the Day" today at Dale Street. Kara ran the school to perfection and I was lucky to have her!

What a great day for this year's Field Day!  The weather turned out great and the children had a lot of fun.  Special thanks to Mr. Stevens and Mrs. Carey for organizing such a wonderful day.  Additionally, thanks to all the Dale Street staff and Medfield High School students for assisting with all of the events.

Special thanks to Blake students who visited Grade 5 classrooms last Wednesday.  These amazing students gave great advice and suggestions about students' transitions to middle school in the fall.

4th Grade music students will have their last ensemble on Monday, 6/11.  There will be no 4th grade music lessons after this date.

5th Grade music students will have their last ensembles on Tuesday, 6/12.  There will be no 5th grade music lessons after this date.

Mrs. Strekalovsky and Ms. Warner continued to visit classrooms this week to share guidance lessons on mindfulness.  It takes a village!

Grade 5 students participated in the annual Egg Drop event yesterday. Students played the role of design engineers to create contraptions that would safely hold an egg.  Dale Street students are clever and talented!

Thanks to Ellie in Mrs. Scott's class for reading today's book recommendation. Ellie recommended Awkward by Svetlana Chmakova for "people who like graphic novels" and because "it is funny and tells about friendship."  Ellie rated this book 4 out of 5 stars!  Thanks Ellie!

Today Ms. Bertschmann's fifth grade class facilitated our final student-led Core Values assembly of the year.  I commend Ms. Bertschmann's class for their efforts and creativity!  If you would like to view the video, you can find it here.

This week Grade 4 students held North America Fairs. The young learners should be congratulated for the outstanding work they displayed!
