October 28, 2022 - Week 9

Dear Families,

On behalf of the Dale Street staff, I would like to wish a very happy Diwali to all of our families who celebrated this week. We had another great week here at #beproudbedale! Creative thinking, Friday DJs, collaborative work, Positive Sign Thursday, and wonderful music!  Scroll through and take a look at some of the awesomeness from this past week!

As a reminder, Monday, October 31st is an early release day for staff professional development. Dale Street students will be dismissed at 11:40 a.m. Morning breakfast will not be served on this day. Please remember to update your child's School Dismissal Manager if they will be dismissed to a different location than usual. Thank you!

I am very excited to announce that the playground equipment that we ordered has arrived and has been installed.  The students are so excited to use the slide structure again! We would like to send a HUGE thank you to the Dale Street PTO who generously helped fund this repair project.  We would also like to thank Dr. Marsden, Mr. LaFrancesca, and our building and grounds staff for getting the replaced equipment installed so quickly.

Halloween at Dale Street

The Dale Street staff enjoys making Halloween a safe, exciting, and consistent experience for all students.  On Monday, October 31st, all of our classrooms:

  • encourage all students to dress up in their costumes. Please note that NO weapons are allowed, and students should not wear masks that cover their entire face. Additionally, please leave face paint at home.
  • will have Halloween-themed activities.  Activities will be teacher-directed and run throughout the morning.  The classroom teacher will reach out to head room parents if support is needed.
  • will have a 'Party in a Bag'.  Please have your child decorate (if they wish) or simply print their name on a brown paper bag. Please send in the brown bag on October 31st, filled with a few of your child’s favorite food items. Some examples are: juice box or mini water bottle, small salty snack, fun sweet snack (cupcake, cookie), additional items could be a piece of fruit, a small yogurt, or any additional healthy snack.  Adding a little note to your child's bag will definitely make them happy! Students' snack times and the Halloween-themed activities will take place at different times in the morning depending on each class' schedule.
  • There will be no morning breakfast served on Monday, October 31st.

We understand and are happy that the children may receive a plethora of treats on Halloween night. Come Tuesday, November 1st, the staff at Dale Street encourages healthy foods for student snack times to help promote optimal learning.  Thank you in advance for your continued support.

October 21, 2022 - Week 8

 Hello Dale Street Families,

We hope that you all had a good week.  Things are going very well at #beproudbedale.  The students are working incredibly hard and it is such a treat to work with them each day.  The staff also continues to work very hard.  I couldn't be more proud of our ROCKSTAR students and staff!  Check out some of the happenings from this past week...

The long rainbow loom chain was raffled off this afternoon and our winner was Ayman from Ms. Sager's class!  $175.00 was collected for the Jimmy Fund Walk (our own amazing Administrative Assistant, Mrs. Gilberti walks each year).  A huge thanks to Sarah, Anna, Olivia, Lucy, Jordyn, and Madison who created this chain and initiated this kind and compassionate idea...AMAZING!

On a visit to Mrs. Nee's fifth-grade classroom this week, students were engaged in a math workshop going deeper with decimals & powers of 10.

Positive Sign Thursday!

'YOU CAN DO HARD THINGS!'

Dale Street students care about the planet!  To help take care of our precious earth, Dale Street is teaming up with the Medfield Transfer Station and Recycling Committee and Crazy Crayons to recycle unwanted crayons!

Crayons are a petroleum product that take many years to biodegrade. The National Crayon Recycle Program recycles unwanted, rejected, broken crayons into new crayons, keeping thousands of pounds out of landfills every year.

Please send your student in with crayons that you are no longer using.  We'll collect them in the Library and then weigh what we have collected to find out how many pounds of crayons Dale Street has saved from landfills!

The Crayon Collection will go from Monday, October 24th - Friday, November 4th.

Congratulations to Hadley and Aliya for completing the summer band challenge. These two Rockstars played 10 musical tasks - ranging from performing for family to looking up new music to learn on their own. Way to go, young learners!

Scientists at work!!!  This week students in Ms. Johnson's fifth-grade class investigated how Moon phases change and how the Moon's relationship with the Earth and Sun affects these changes.

Did you know that MCPE (Medfield Coalition for Public Education) is a great way to support Medfield Public Schools? For 35 years, MCPE has raised money from the Medfield community to provide system-wide support and academic enrichment for all five schools in town, with particular attention to academic needs that exceed the parameters of the school budget. Last year alone, MCPE used money raised throughout the year to fund 12 grants totaling over $40,000! These grants represent many unique ideas that improve the experiences of our K-12 students. If you’re looking for ways to support Medfield schools, teachers, administrators, and our kids, MCPE is a great way to do so! You can donate directly, host an Entertainment for Education (E4E) event, or attend any of the MCPE community-wide events that happen throughout the year, including the upcoming Fall Ball!

Grade 5 students took advantage of the beautiful weather on Friday to practice their soccer skills in physical education. Dale Street wellness teachers, Mrs. Nawrocki and Ms. Laughna love getting the students outside as much as possible (and the students love it too!).
