March 31, 2017 - Week 29

Hello Dale Street Community!

Amazing week here at #beproudbedale!  Please scroll through to see some of the great things that happened this week and take a look at some important reminders.

Dale Street fourth graders had a wonderful time on their field trip to the Museum of Science this week. Thanks to all of the parents who took time to chaperone.

A letter was sent out yesterday offering parents the opportunity to share information about their son/daughter for next year’s placement at Dale Street.  The information that you share will be used to assist me with the student placement process for the 2017 – 2018 school year.  When corresponding about placement, parents are asked to focus on the type of learning environment that best meets the strengths and needs of their child.  Please know that throughout the placement process our focus will be on placing your child in a classroom in which they will grow both academically and socially.

Congratulations to this week's Positive Referral recipients.  These students were recognized by staff members in the building for demonstrating great character!  We are proud of you!

Monday is Red Sox spirit Day at Dale Street!  Please wear your Red Sox attire or red, white, and blue.  If your allegiance is with another team, feel free to come to school with that team's attire.

Dale Street students attended an interactive assembly on Tuesday.  Urban Improv visited our school and provided improvisational theater to teach conflict resolution.  Special thanks to MCPE for funding this great, educational experience!

Grade 4 Online MCAS Trial Run

This week our Grade 4 students took a practice MCAS test in the online platform that they will be using for the actual test in April and May. This exercise gave our students and staff an opportunity to become more familiar with the test format and the online tools associated with this year's MCAS. Below is a link to a tutorial that students can use to continue to practice using these online tools. All of our 4th grade students have completed the tutorial with their classroom teacher. Once you follow the link, click on the TestNav 8 Tutorial. The tutorial is self-paced with explanations of the tools and opportunities to try the tools. Our 5th grade students will continue to take the paper-based MCAS tests this year.

Congratulations to Carl in Mr. Douglas' class for his AMAZING performance at today's Massachusetts Geographic Bee!  We are all so proud of you!

Great to see students in Mrs. Foley's class having the chance to offer project feedback to one another using Padlet.

A big thanks to Nicky in Ms. Isaacson's class for reading today's book recommendation.  Nicky gave Dog Finds Lost Dolphins by Elizabeth Carney 6 stars because "There are rats that sniff out land minds."  Great job, Nicky!

Students in Ms. Bertschmann's fifth grade class took time this week to work with volume and line plots. These young learners used the program prodigy to gain a deeper understanding of these topics.

The nurse will be measuring fourth grade students' heights and weights next week during  PE classes. The screening will be done confidentially.  Please contact Mrs. Thompson if you have any questions regarding this state mandated screening.

March 24, 2017 - Week 28

Greetings Dale Street Community!

Thank you to all of the Dale Street parents and care givers who were able to attend Parent/Teacher conferences over the past two weeks.  The lines of communication between home and school must always remain open and strong.  If at any point during the remainder of the school year you feel that there is an area in your child’s education that needs to be addressed, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher.  We strive to do our best to support the academic, social, and emotional development of your child(ren).

Bravo to all of the fifth grade students who participated in last Friday's Talent Show.  Each act was truly fantastic!  Special thanks to all of the students and families who came to the show.  We greatly appreciate your support.  Thank you to Talent Show director, Mr. Mason for all of his dedication to the show and Ms. Walunas, our fantastic Stage Manager!

 to Dale Street's DI teams!

DI teams from the Dale Street School made an excellent showing at the regional DI Tournament last Saturday. One of our teams is advancing and will present on Saturday, April 1st at WPI, Worcester.  Spectators are welcome....so please consider taking a ride to WPI and supporting the Dale Street DI team and our other Medfield school teams!

We have recently witnessed a small number of students wandering in the parking lot at dismissal time.  As I am sure you understand, this presents a very troubling safety issue.  Many vehicles are moving in the parking lot after parents have signed their child(ren) out with Dale Street staff.  Upon checking with these students, we now know that a small group of students are signed out as 'walkers' and when they leave the school are meeting a parent/caregiver in the parking lot.  If you are going to pick your child(ren) up at dismissal, please have them signed up as a 'pick-up' and sign them out at the sign-out door.  Thank you in advance for keeping our students safe.

Special thanks to Meet in Ms. Isaacson's class for reading our book recommendation today.  Meet recommended Bone: Crown of Horns by Jeff Smith because it is a very adventurous book.  He gave this book 5 stars.  Thanks Meet!
Bravo to our recent Positive Referral recipients.  These students were recognized by staff members in the building for embodying good behavior!
We are proud of you!

Don’t miss the 4th Annual MA Miss Amazing Show this Saturday, March 25, 2017 at Medfield High School on March 25, 2017, 6pm - 9pm.
Tickets are $10 and will be available at the door.  Come support girls and women with disabilities, their families and the many volunteers who have been planning this special event for months.  The evening show includes an introduction by each participant, an escorted walk in their finest formal attire and an opportunity to showcase their abilities and talents.  MA Miss Amazing brings the community together like no other event, don’t miss the fun!!  All proceeds directly support future MA Miss Amazing activities.

Bravo to our 4th and 5th grade Chorus students (and Mrs. Oxholm) who performed beautifully at last weekend's Big Sing at St. Paul's Cathedral in Cambridge!  A big thank you to all of our chaperones!

Based on feedback from families, Dale Street will continue the 'Pop Up Book Fair' that we offered during our recent conference afternoons.  The "book fair" will run until next Thursday (3/30). This is such a great opportunity for Dale Street as Mr. James, from Park Street Books will be giving our school a percentage of every purchase to buy more books for the library. Thank you in advance for your continued support!

Students in Mrs. Flynn's fourth grade classroom visited the LMC this week to begin their state research projects.  These project based learning projects had students excited and engaged!

Thank you to all who donated to today's 'Hat Day.'  With the generous support of our students, families and staff, Dale Street will be donating over $200.00 to Medfield's Special Olympics day!  #communityconnection

This week, fifth grade students in Mr. Mason's class participated in a magnetic  sailing activity.  Students worked together to explore how the north and south poles can influence the attraction or repelling of an object (in this case a ping pong ball).  Great job, young learners!
