September 28, 2018 - Week 5

Greetings Dale Street Community!

What a great week here at Dale Street! It was finally a five day week and we made the best of it by filling the fifth day with more amazing things!  Take a minute to scroll through and to check out the sights from this week.

Congratulations to the students who were selected to serve on this year's Student Advisory Council as well as our Student Advisory Council alternates.  Thank you to all the boys and girls who submitted a letter of interest.  Although some students may not have been selected to serve on this year's council, we hope they will be active leaders bringing about creative ideas in their classrooms.

Today in Mrs. Lowerre's fifth grade classroom students worked in teams and acted as archaeologists.  Students dug to locate artifacts that may have been used by the ancient Mayan civilization.  Total engagement and wonderful learning.

Check this out....this student took time at recess to create this amazing peace symbol!  So awesome!

Check out the PTO update  for information you don't want to miss!

Dale Street reading specialist, Mrs. Callahan, used time this week to visit Mr. Douglas' fourth grade classroom.  Their focus: learning different strategies to help students respond to literature.

Congratulations to our Positive Referrals this week.  Thank you for making our school such a great place!   We are very proud of you!

This student has been a role model for respect in her class!
This student helped out without even being asked!

Ms. DiPesa's grade 4 students got the chance to explore different genres today when they participated in a "Book Tasting."  The students loved getting the chance to see all the different selections and they loved the restaurant atmosphere too!

Ms. Bertschmann's fifth grade students created this awesome bulletin board showcasing our "One Community, One Theme."  Stop by and check it out if you are here at Dale.   You will LOVE it!

On Thursday, Mrs. Crable's fourth grade class spent their reader's workshop time in Dale Street's Library Media Center.  Special thanks to Mrs. Cowell for always providing a welcoming environment and our partners, MCPE, for providing the generous funding so our students can enjoy literature comfortably.

On Wednesday, students in Mrs. Foley's and Ms. Condon's fifth grade classes took time to explore the Mayan and Aztec cultures by designing paper-mâché masks. #talentedstudents

Please be aware that picture retakes will take place on Tuesday, October 16th.  Students who would like a retake need to return their entire packet minus the class photo on the day of the retake.

Special thanks to all of the Dale Street parents who have volunteered to be room parents this year.  The annual Room Parent Tea took place yesterday and we are lucky to have such dedicated parents!

Dale Street teachers took time this week to participate in hands-on science professional development.  Grade 4 and 5 teachers investigated ways to integrate engineering ideas into our science curriculum.  The collaborative time together helped model our core value of Continuous Growth.

For your child's safety, please have your child arrive at school after 8:10 am.  There will be no supervision before that time.

Enjoy your weekend and we look forward to seeing the kids back on Monday!

Sincerely,
Steve

September 21, 2018 - Week 4

Hello Dale Street,

We hope that you all had a fabulous week because we sure did!  Check out some of the awesomeness from this week.

Today we held an all-school assembly.  Meeting with the whole student body is truly one of my favorite things to do.  We discussed the word integrity and how integrity is doing the right thing whether there is an adult nearby or not.  We also talked about how integrity will directly impact our 'digital footprint'  (the trail of data we create online). We ended our time together with this 'Welcome Back' video choreographed by Ms. Hayes and filmed by Mrs. Nawrocki.  Enjoy!

Dale Street Art teacher, Mrs. Delaney, and our incredibly talented students added beauty to the school as these murals were hung in the cafeteria this week.

Bravo to Thomas in Ms. DiPesa's fourth grade class for composing this Graphic Novel.  It is superb!

In Mrs. Flynn's fourth grade class this week, students brainstormed memories from their lives for their realistic fiction narratives.  They used one of Mrs. Flynn's favorite chapter books, Skinny-Bones, by Barbara Park to get inspired.  I can't wait to see the finished products!

We hope you are enjoying the convenience of the new School Dismissal Manager and find it easy to use.  Please remember to update the system with any changes to your child's dismissal plans.  Keep in mind that the information included in the 'Notes' field will be displayed on the reports at the end of the day.  As these reports are distributed to the classrooms, please do not put personal information in the notes field but keep the description generic such as 'Dr appt.'

The dismissal system can also be used to report absences if you prefer to use this method over the absence line (508-242-8502).  Whichever way you prefer, remember to let the school know if your child will be absent from school.

Congratulations to our Positive Referrals this week.  Thank you for making our school such a great place!   We are very proud of you!

Aiden demonstrated collaboration and compassion!

Luke was very helpful and compassionate!

Peter demonstrated superior respect this week!

Students in Ms. Condon's fifth grade classroom celebrated Constitution Day (Monday, September 17th) by signing their own class constitution.

Please read the following information about the Fall Intramural offerings at Dale St School.  The deadline to register is today.  Classes begin next week.  If you have any questions, please contact Kim Frazier (daleintramural@email.medfield.net).

Congratulations to our September Lucky Plate winners!
