May 24, 2019 - Week 36

Greetings Dale Street Community,

Today our school held a Memorial Day assembly. The students did a remarkable job.  We heard beautiful songs from some of the Grade 5 Ensemble, the Grade 5 Band, and Ms. Burnham's class.  Grade 5 students Emma (5Sager) and Daniel (5Bertschmann) recited the Gettysburg Address, and Sebastian (5Lowerre) and Brady (5Mason) played Taps.  It was a beautiful morning!

What a great way to end the week.....fifth grade students in Mr. Mason's class spent time with their first grade book buddies in Mrs. Ravinski's class.  What a great example of peer leadership!

Dale Street School was recognized at MCPE's Annual Meeting last night.  Dale Street (along with Memorial and Wheelock) received the Thomas Reis Award for our Jessica Minahan on Anxiety and Behavior grant.  We were honored to have been recognized by MCPE and are so appreciative of the more than $127K in grants to our schools this year!

¿Qué ropa llevas tú? This week Grade 4 students worked in partners in Mrs. LeVangie's World Language class to practice speaking about clothing, seasons and weather!

Our "Dale Street Reflects Kindness" bulletin board is coming along beautifully.  Please check it out when you are at the school.

It was an exciting week for our music students.  Congratulations to our 4th and 5th grade Orchestra and our 4th and 5th grade Band for their wonderful concerts this week.  These students were AWESOME!  Special thanks to our fantastic music instructors, Mrs. Brenna Evans, Mrs. Eithne Stover, Mr. Dave Ruggiero, Mr. Ryan Dexter, Mr. George Murphy, and for being amazing leaders!

On Wednesday, students in Mrs. Foley's class and Ms. Condon's class had the chance to act as historians. Students had fun examining primary sources from the American Revolution.  Special thanks to the Mass Historical Society for visiting and sharing your expertise with our students!

Thank you so much to the students in our Girls on the Run Intramural program. Check out how they beautified the front of Dale Street! We are very grateful!

Ms. Burnham's class held an awesome Memorial Day program on Wednesday.  Bravo young learners for a wonderful presentation!

The students in Ms. Bertschmann's fifth grade class participated in "Think Outside the Box Thursday" where they were all given the same design on a piece of white paper and told to complete the picture. The only rule was that it could NOT be a bunny!  So cool!

Thank you to our Friday DJ's for rockin' the lunchroom!

What an exciting week in our Grade 5 classes!  These classes had butterflies emerge from their chrysalises during the week and were able to set them free!  What a fantastic opportunity for students to be able to watch this amazing process!

Grade 4 and 5 Choruses are closing out their year with a final concert on Tuesday, June 4th!  The performance will be at 7:00 pm in the Medfield High School auditorium.  The students have worked hard and are looking forward to performing for you!

As a reminder to chorus members - Students should arrive at 6:15 to warm up and get ready for the concert.  Concert dress for the night will be red shirts and black pants or skirts with black shoes for grade 4 and plain blue shirts with black pants or skirts for the fifth graders.

Check out the PTO update for this week.

In science this week, students in Mrs. Scott's fourth grade class took time to explore reflection with mirrors.  They had a lot of fun and learned a lot too!
