May 17, 2019 - Week 35

Dear Dale Street Families,

Mrs. Foley's and Ms.Condon's classrooms had an Invention Convention this week!  There were some very interesting and creative ideas.  Way to go 5th graders!  Shark Tank here we come!

Bravo and congratulations to the participants in our Girls on the Run intramural program.  On Thursday, these awesome students completed a 5K! Thank you to everyone who participated in this wonderful intramural and the awesome parent volunteers who made it work!

Thank you so much to our very generous MCPE for funding the Sound Waves Traveling Program for our 4th graders.  All Grade 4 classrooms had the opportunity to be part of this great program this week. We had very positive feedback from both students and teachers.

Thanks to Allie in Mrs. Ross' class for reading today's book recommendation.  Allie recommended Dude! by Dan Santat for someone 'who likes books that make NO sense.'  Allie rated this book 50 stars!  Thanks Allie!

Students in Ms. Isaacson's fourth grade class started a new project in reader’s workshop this week. These young learners began comparing themes across picture books and they will eventually create flip books. The conversations these books sparked were pretty incredible!

Check out the PTO update!  The last PTO meeting of the year will be May 23rd at 10:00 a.m. in the LMC.

Check out the faces on Ms. Burnham's fifth grade students as they await their class caterpillars' final phase of metamorphosis!  So awesome!

Please join SEPAC on Tuesday, May 21st at 7pm in the Blake Library to hear Karey Curley, Team Chair, and a panel of parents  discuss "Increasing Student Attendance and Input at IEP Meetings." Families of students of all ages are encouraged to attend. Elections will also take place at this meeting for the 2019-2020 SEPAC Board. If you are interested in a leadership role, please contact sepac@email.medfield.net. To learn more about us, please visit their website: https://sites.google.com/mail.medfield.k12.ma.us/sepac/

It was a blast to spend time after school today with MCPE auction winner, Lila and her friends, Kiley, Keira, and Mary-Clare.  We used the MCPE funded view finders and visited Brazil's World Cup Stadiums and Streets and Buckingham Palace.  So much fun!

Other than a few make-ups, Dale Street fourth and fifth grade students have completed the 2019 MCAS testing.  I am so proud of the outstanding effort our students gave to the ELA, Math, and STE (Grade 5) test sessions.  These tests are challenging, but Dale Street students demonstrated perseverance and positivity throughout all the sessions.  We try not to over-emphasize the test (it's stressful enough as it is) or let it take over the entire school. However, we appreciate the hard work our students do each day and look forward to seeing how they perform and what it can tell us about our programming.

MCAS make-up tests for Gr 5 Math and Gr 5 STE will be administered starting Monday, May 20.  Students who missed multiple days of testing will make up only one test session each day.

Dale Street students will be honoring our veterans and those currently serving our country through music and remarks on Friday, May 24th. The program will be held outside (weather permitting) on the Dale Street side of the building.  The program will begin at 8:50 a.m. and is expected to last approximately 30 minutes.  Upon completion of the program, students will return with their teachers to their classrooms.

This week, students in Mr. Mason's fifth grade class spent time in writer's workshop collecting evidence for their opinion/persuasive essays.  I can't wait to see the finished products!
