October 20, 2017 - Week 8

Happy Friday Dale Street!

We hope that you had a wonderful week - we sure did!  Take a look to see some of the wonderful things that happened at #beproudbedale this week.

Thank you to all the students and the families of Dale Street for the very generous donations we received to help Fehl-Price Elementary School in the recovery efforts from the Hurricane Harvey. What a truly wonderful way to display Dale Street's Core Value of Compassion.  Special thanks to Curt and Shonda Schilling for volunteering to pay for the shipping of these items. If you are interested in making a monetary donation, checks can be made payable to Beaumont ISD (please put Fehl-Price in the memo line) and send to:

Beaumont ISD-Hurricane Harvey Relief
Office of the CFO
3395 Harrison Avenue
Beaumont TX 77706

And....to celebrate our spirit with pajama day...so cool!

What was happening at Dale Street's LMC this week?

ProBots, Dash and Dot, collaboration, creativity and so much more.  It is such a great thing to see Dale Street young learners so empowered!

If you happen to be at Dale Street, please check out the newest addition to the cafeteria - areas to showcase the arts.  Special thanks to Art teacher, Christina Delaney and Administrative Assistants, Maureen Barrett and Megan Infantino for helping to make this happen.

Students in Ms. Isaacson's and Mrs. Crable's fourth grade classes spent time this week investigating energy and circuits using our new FOSS kits.  This engaging way to learn highlights two of Dale Street's Core Values: Collaboration & Continuous Growth!

MCPE is turning 30!!  This week marks the kick-off of our 30th year fundraising campaign.  Everyone received a donation request letter in your mail box earlier this week.  We kindly ask for your generosity so we can continue funding innovation in our schools.  We want to turn every mailbox in town blue over the next 30 days as we reach our goal of $75,000!  Please show your support and we thank you.  Keep in mind for companies that match gifts to education (like Fidelity, etc), MCPE is a 501(c)3  charitable organization and qualifies for many of these match programs.  Go Big Blue!

Thanks to these these to great Dale Street students who took time to interview me this week as part of their after school intramural class - Newspaper Club.  No question that these two could be fantastic journalist if they choose.

Please be aware that picture retakes will take place on Friday, October 27th.  Students who would like a retake need to return their entire packet minus the class photo on the day of the retake.

Positive Referral!!!
These students received a Positive Referral this week for being super helpful, going out of their way to volunteer and showing outstanding respect and compassion.  Great work!

Look who joined our Literacy O'Lanterns this week - Ferdinand created by

Señora DellaMonica.

What's one way to empower young learners?  Allow them to create their own comics highlighting the vocabulary they are learning!  Thanks Ms. DiPesa's fourth grade class for these awesome comics!

Thank you to the members of the Dale Street Site Council for a great meeting yesterday.  Please be aware that there is a Site Council page on the Dale Street website.  Please visit this page to see Site Council members, upcoming meeting dates, the Dale Street School Improvement Plan and the results from the 2017 Site Council survey.

Thank you to Olivia and Tommy (both in Mr. Douglas' class) for reading today's book recommendations.  Olivia recommended Coraline by Neil Gainman.  Olivia gave this book 5 stars because "it is full of adventures and unexpected scenes."  Tommy gave Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Roderick Rules five stars because "it has a lot of funny random things!"  Thanks  Olivia and Tommy!

Catch up on the latest PTO news, including the upcoming PTO meeting, Kids' Night Out, fundraisers, open volunteer positions and more!

Our school participated in a bus evacuation on Monday.  All students (regardless of whether they ride the bus to and from school) participated in this important exercise.  Special thanks to Officer Manganello for her assistance with bus evacuation.

This week Mrs. Flynn's class participated in math workshop focusing on multiplying numbers.  What a fun way to highlight the MA Framework...Operations and Algebraic Thinking!

Halloween at Dale Street

The Dale Street staff enjoys making Halloween a safe, exciting, and consistent experience for all students. On Tuesday, October 31st, all of our classrooms:

  • encourage all students to dress up in their costumes.  Please note that students’ faces may not be covered with a mask, hood, or other item. Please do not allow your child to bring fake weapons into school to accompany his/her costume, and particularly violent themes should be avoided.
  • will have Halloween themed activities.  Activities will be teacher-directed and run throughout the day.
  • will have classroom snacks sent into school on October 31st.  The Head Room Parent will be coordinating this effort.  Please keep food and drink to these four categories: something crunchy, something sweet, a healthy fruit, and water.  Additionally, please be sensitive of allergies within classrooms.  The snack time and the Halloween themed activities will take place at different times depending on students’ schedules.

We understand, and are happy that the children will receive a plethora of treats on Halloween night. Come Wednesday, the staff at Dale Street encourages healthy foods for student snack times to help promote optimal learning.  Thank you in advance for your continued support.
