October 13, 2017 - Week 7

Hi Dale Street!

Although only a four day school week, there was plenty of awesomeness here at Dale Street.  Take a minute to scroll through and take a peek.  You will also see some upcoming dates.  Enjoy!

On a visit to Ms. DiPesa's fourth grade classroom today, I had the opportunity to see students involved in an awesome activity.  The activity....A Book Tasting!  Candles, tablecloths and BOOKS!  Students had the chance to gain a better understanding of genre and were really intrigued by new books.  Such a cool environment for these young learners!

As many of you are aware, a tremendous amount of families were devastated by catastrophic weather over the last few months. As a way to connect our students to the world around us and demonstrate one of Dale Street’s Core Values, compassion, the Dale Street Student Advisory Council is spearheading a collection for members of the Fehl-Price Elementary School in Beaumont, Texas. We have been in contact with the school and they are extremely grateful that the Dale Street community has decided to support their community. Donations will be collected from October 2nd - October 20th.  Items we are collecting: Backpacks, Socks, Girl and boy underwear (sizes 4-14), jackets or sweaters (4-18), School Supplies.

Students in Mrs. Scott's fourth grade class took time to experiment with circuits and switches.  Students love the new FOSS science program and have plenty of opportunity to display two of Dale Street's Core Values: Collaboration & Continuous Growth!  AWESOME!

The Student Advisory Council, with input from their classmates, has decided that Dale Street's first Spirit Day will take place on Friday, October 20th.  The theme.....pajama day!   We hope to have a lot of participation.

In World Language this week, Grade 5 students 'visited' popular Medfield places and practiced appropriate greetings.  ¡Gran trabajo!

Literacy O'Lanterns
At our faculty meeting this week, Dale Street staff created Literacy O'Lanterns.  Staff members decorated pumpkins to represent their favorite children's book character.  These look so cool placed throughout the school.

I had the great pleasure of team teaching with Mrs. Lowerre today.  We worked with students on a really cool STEM activity.  These young learners are AMAZING!

Students at Dale Street saw a wonderful assembly today.  This free assembly, funded by Eversource, focused on these 4 essential questions:

What energy and electricity are?
What energy resources are?
How we use energy unwisely?
How we use energy efficiency?

In art class with Mrs. Delaney this week, Grade 4 students highlighted animals as they practiced scratch art.  These students are so very talented!

Special thanks to Abigail for reading today’s book recommendation. Abigail gave Amulet by Kazu Kibuishi
five stars because “It is an amazing storyline and it’s a graphic novel that will get you attached to the characters."  Thanks Abigail!
Be calm and eat on.....If your child(ren) needs a little more on their plate - a little more fuel for their day - we will now be offering a "Super Meal" for an additional $1.75. This means that your child(ren) can purchase an additional main lunch item.  Enjoy!
Please read the PTO update, which includes important information including the Yankee Candle and Mixed Bag Fundraiser deadlines, volunteer opportunities, upcoming Medfield Talks series date, and the next PTO meeting date.
