December 16, 2022 - Week 15

 Hello Dale Street Families!

We just completed an incredible week here at #beproudbedale. This week included collaboration, real-world connections, and student-led activities just to name a few things.  Please take a few minutes to scroll through this week's blog to read all about our exciting week.

Congratulations to this week's Positive Referral!

Loukas was recognized for his flexibility and helpfulness.

Hadley was recognized for being super supportive and compassionate.

On Wednesday, students in Mrs. Dowd's fourth-grade class led a fabulous social-emotional learning assembly highlighting our Core Value of collaboration.  The students were so impressive!

This week in Mrs. Chamblin's fifth-grade class, students learned more about radiation and conduction.  The students loved that Mrs. Chamblin brought in a toaster (a.k.a. a radiation machine) and English muffins to model this idea.

Thanks to our Friday DJs who kept the lunchroom rockin' today.

On Thursday, Katie and Amanda from Medfield TV visited Dale Street and our Daily Dale newscasters.  Students loved seeing all the equipment they use for production and hearing how they use it. #realworldconnection

Student Council Initiative
Our collection box is filling up! We will continue collecting new, unwrapped toys or monetary donations for the Home Committee until Friday, December 23rd.  We are also collecting student-created holiday cards and positive message cards for the residents at the Thomas Upham House.  Students who complete a card can hand it in to the office.  Thank you in advance for your support!

This AWESOME group stopped by the office this week to share their talents and some holiday cheer.  Thank you for being awesome!

Math Challenge Six is now available. Students are encouraged to solve as many problems as they can. We hope that all students and families find these problems to be a challenging and fun activity.

More information, including a calendar of important dates and a link to download and print the challenges and solutions, is available here. Any questions regarding the math challenge program can be directed to Dale Street math specialist, Ms. Perachi.

The 3rd Challenge is now available and is due on 1/4/2023

Scientist at work!  This week, Grade 4 students in Ms. Plympton's class designed structures that would sustain an earthquake. These talented students had limited resources, time constraints, and needed to use background knowledge. They really enjoyed testing their designs on the shake table!

Monday, December 19th - Wear something that shows off a winter character (Grinch, Santa, elf, Olaf, snowman, reindeer…).

Tuesday, December 20th - Merry & Bright - wear something bright, sparkly, or shiny.

Wednesday, December 21st - Wear a festive holiday sweater!

Thursday, December 22nd - Mad About Plaid! Wear your favorite plaid shirt, plaid scarf, and/or plaid hat and blue jeans!

Friday, December 23rd - Students and staff are encouraged to wear PJs (or comfy clothes) on the last Friday before winter break.

Holiday Celebrations - Enjoy a “Party in a Bag!” Have your child decorate a brown paper lunch bag with a holiday theme. Once decorated, fill it with a few of your child’s favorite food items. Some examples are: juice box or mini water bottle, small salty snack, fun sweet snack (cupcake, cookie), additional items could be a piece of fruit, a small yogurt, or any additional healthy snack.  Adding a little note to your child's bag will definitely make them happy!  Students will be able to enjoy their “Party in a Bag” snacks at a designated time during their classroom celebration on December 23rd.

Positive Sign Thursday!

'If at first you don't succeed, you're normal!'

On a visit to Ms. Sager's fifth-grade class this week, students were collaborating in book groups. It was awesome to hear students' perspectives and opinions. One of their culminating projects will be character trait posters - I can't wait to see them!

Winter is here!  Please make sure your children come to school dressed appropriately for the cold weather.  Students will have recess OUTSIDE if the 'feels like' temperature is 20 or above.  Hats, gloves, and coats are strongly encouraged.  Additionally, students need to have snow boots and snow pants if they want to play in the snow.  Students without snow gear will have to remain on the blacktop.

Last week, we highlighted letters students from Ms. Plympton's class had received.  Students in Ms. DiPesa's fourth-grade class were just as happy this week as they received letters from Lassen Volcanic, Capitol Reef, and Yellowstone National Parks.  What a wonderful real-world connection for the students!

This week in Health class with Ms. Laughna, students in Grade 5 started to wrap up their Nicotine Awareness projects.  Very proud of the hard work students are putting forward.  Super excited to see the final products!

Medfield's Destination Imagination organization is looking for volunteers to be appraisers at either of the regional tournaments (March 4th in Medfield or March 12th in Beverly). It is the perfect opportunity for someone 18 years or older (and out of high school) who would like to spend the day praising the accomplishments of each dedicated and hugely creative Destination Imagination team and awarding as many points as possible. It is truly a fun day spent enjoying the creativity of students in grades 3-12 and is a great community volunteer opportunity for anyone- college students, retired folks, those who have previously participated in Destination Imagination, etc.). Contact uflindsay@gmail.com for more information and learn about Destination Imagination at destinationimagination.org.

Looking for the perfect gift for the holidays? Our Alumni shirts are back in stock and ready to ship! We also have future alumni shirts in youth sizes! Limited quantities so get yours before they sell out! All proceeds go towards our scholarship programs! Please reach out to info@medfieldalumni.org with any questions!
