October 29, 2021 - Week 9

Happy Friday, Dale Street Families!

It was a sensational, definitely interesting, and dare I say, spooktacular week!   Wednesday was definitely a curveball for sure, but our #beproudbedale rockstar students and staff made it through fantastically!  It was great fun having students show up today in their Halloween gear! Here are some exciting things that took place this week and some information regarding upcoming events.

This week, grade 4 welcomed Technology Integrationist, Mr. Ahern.  Students loved learning about coding with our MCPE funded Ozobts,  Check out some of the learning that happened in Mrs. Fox's class.

Olivia received a positive referral for being a great example for her classmates and being very inclusive.

Zoe received a positive referral displaying kind and empathetic behavior each day and being inclusive of students in her class.

Ryan received a positive referral for working hard across all academic areas. He is putting in his best effort and staying on task.

The Dale Street Student Council has voted to have Dale Street students and families participate in the Boodle Brigades initiative.  The Boodle Brigades' mission is to send care boxes to our troops overseas. The group was started several years ago by Sara West Martin, a West Point graduate's mom. Dale Street will collect items for one male soldier and one female soldier.  Items (see below) will be collected outside the main office starting Monday, November 1st through Friday, November 12th.  Care boxes will be packed in the afternoon of the 12th so they can go out by November 14th, to ensure timely delivery.

Suggested items: toiletries, a gift card to amazon. spices, hot sauces, barbecue sauces, socks, gloves, candy, boxes of trivia games, playing cards, kraft mac and cheese, cocoa, etc.

On Tuesday, Ms. Isaacson's fourth-grade students used the book Evelyn Del Ray Is Moving Away to help pull out important details which ultimately lead them to the main idea. Students made wonderful observations and inferences!

The first Principal's Coffee of the year will be held on Friday, November 5th, at 8:45 a.m. in the Dale Street School Library.  I will be sharing helpful hints for families as student-led Family/Teacher conferences approach, our new elementary report card, and a new elementary building project update.  Please RSVP here if you plan to attend.

'YOU ARE SPOOKTACULAR!'

¡Tuvimos éxito! This week in Spanish with Senora LeVangie grade 5 students had fun trying to break out of their Día de los Muertos breakout.   Check out these awesome students from Ms. Sager's class and Ms. Condon's class.

Spirit Day - Friday, November 5th

Disney Day - Add a little bit of magic to Dale Street by dressing up as your favorite Disney character.

For the month of November, we are asking the students at Dale to make thank you cards at home for the special members of their community. Some examples would be for the police station, fire station, librarians, department of public works, Park Street Books, the elderly at Tilden Village, or any other organization in town that helps make Medfield special! Please have the students drop off their cards at the main office at Dale by November 19. October 22, 2021 - Week 8

Hello Dale Street Families,

We hope that you all had a good week.  Things are going very well at #beproudbedale.  The students are working incredibly hard and it is such a treat to work with them each day.  The staff also continues to work very hard.  I couldn't be more proud of our ROCKSTAR students and staff!  Check out some of the happenings from this past week...

Today, students in Ms. Condon's fifth-grade class participated in their weekly SEL (social-emotional learning) lesson.  Students had great discussions about understanding different perspectives and participated in an activity that highlighted this important skill.

Bravo to Lucy in Ms. Sager's fifth-grade class for sharing her original Sheep Town Stories. She had the class engaged: laughing, clapping, and responding. What a great example!

Positive Sign Thursday!

'YOU INSPIRE!'

On Tuesday, I had the great fortune to visit Ms. Hayes' fourth-grade classroom to view their landform models and Google Slide presentations. Students did an amazing job!

Our school participated in a bus evacuation on Monday.  All students (regardless of whether they ride the bus to and from school) participated in this important exercise.  Special thanks to Detective Manganello and Officer Treggiari for their assistance with bus evacuation.

Halloween at Dale Street

The Dale Street staff enjoys making Halloween a safe, exciting, and consistent experience for all students.  On next Friday, October 29th, all of our classrooms:

  • encourage all students to dress up in their costumes.  Please note that students’ faces may not be covered with a mask, hood, or other items. Please do not allow your child to bring fake weapons into school to accompany his/her costume, and particularly violent themes should be avoided.  Additionally, please leave face paint at home.
  • will have Halloween-themed activities.  Activities will be teacher-directed and run throughout the morning.  The classroom teacher will reach out to head room parents if support is needed.
  • will have a 'Party in a Bag'.  Please have your child decorate (if they wish) or simply print their name on a brown paper bag. Please send in the brown bag on October 29th, filled with a few of your child’s favorite food items. Some examples are: juice box or mini water bottle, small salty snack, fun sweet snack (cupcake, cookie), additional items could be a piece of fruit, a small yogurt, or any additional healthy snack.  Adding a little note to your child's bag will definitely make them happy! Students' snack times and the Halloween-themed activities will take place at different times in the morning depending on each class' schedule.
We understand and are happy that the children may receive a plethora of treats on Halloween night. Come Monday, November 1st, the staff at Dale Street encourages healthy foods for student snack times to help promote optimal learning.  Thank you in advance for your continued support.

On Wednesday, grade 5 students in Mrs. Chamblin's class had a visit from our Technology Integrationist, Mr. Ahern.  Students had a fantastic time collaborating with coding robots called Ozobots.

Check out Asher in Mrs. Chamblin's fifth-grade class!  This week he designed this elevator with a pulley system for his math zoo project (engineering design process). Students love project-based learning opportunities.

October 15, 2021 - Week 7

Hi Dale Street!

It's hard to believe that we are just about halfway through October already. The first few weeks of October have started off wonderfully!  It is so great to see all of the learning that is taking place, but all of the awesome attitudes that go along with the learning......priceless! Take a peek and see some of the great things that happened this week at #beproudbedale.

This week grade 4 students in Mrs. Scott's class and Ms. MacDonnell's class showcased their 3D landform models.  What a creative way to identify different landforms and their features!  Great work!

Caroline received a Positive Referral for being such a caring and responsible classmate.  Way to go!

Annabelle received a Positive Referral for helping make Dale Street a better place!  Thank you!

Bravo to Mav for receiving a Positive Referral for modeling Dale Street's Core Value of Compassion.

Happy Friday! There were no positive pools from Pooled Testing this week and no new cases of Covid 19 in either staff or students at Dale this week. Forty-Two staff members received their Flu Vaccine at school.  Please refer to COVID Information for guidance on symptom and testing guidelines, quarantine guidance, and to sign up for testing at school. Thanks for all your efforts in keeping our staff and students healthy!

This week, students in the grade 4 trombone group worked so hard and mastered their five-note scale this week.  Bravo!

This week we continued our Dream Big Marathon.  The students LOVE it!!!

Running in the final day of the Dale St. Dream Big Marathon on Monday, 10/18 are the following classes:  Isaacson, Plympton, Johnson, Ross/Seaver, Douglas, Fox (Dowd), Sager, Condon, and Nee.

Students are encouraged to wear Boston (Red Sox!!) or Medfield gear on this day.  Sneakers and water bottles are a must!!!

This week, Medfield's Director of Social Emotional Learning, Dave Worthley visited staff to talk about the importance and benefits of the program Inner Explorer.  This program fosters life skills such as improved focus, compassion, gratitude, and self-regulation.  We will be using Inner Explorer in all Dale Street classrooms each day.

Picture retakes will take place on Tuesday, October 19th.  Students who would like a retake need to return their entire packet on the day of the retake.

Positive Sign Thursday!

'YOU CAN DO HARD THINGS!'

Thank you to our FABULOUS PTO for providing these great treats this week!

On Thursday, grade 5 students in Mrs. Kaplan's class played a fun basketball game on Sadlier to practice vocabulary during their WIN block.

Both grades 4 and 5 began Unit 2: Empathy and Critical Thinking in the Sanford Harmony program today!  Classrooms started this unit by discussing how our thoughts impact the way we feel and the way we act.  Students practiced "popping" those negative thoughts to make them positive, and then notice the differences in their feelings and actions.  Check out the Sanford Harmony parent newsletters (links below) for more information on what students will be learning about in this SEL unit throughout the next few weeks.

Grade 4 students in Mrs. Flynn's and Ms. Plympton's classes took time today to participate in exercises to illustrate the connections among their thoughts, feelings, and actions, and they practiced thinking in positive and inclusive ways.

Tune In!!!! Congratulations to Grade 5 teacher, Ms. Burnham as she will be Saluted at the Bruins home opener tomorrow night. Thank you for your service, Ms. Burnham!

Warm regards,
Steve
