February 16, 2018 - Week 24

Greetings Dale Street Families!

WOW!  Spectacular week here at #beproudbedale!  Take a peek.....

I'm sure that many of you have been watching the Olympics over the past week.  Very exciting for sure!  Just as exciting for me was watching our fourth grade students and staff participate in an integrated Olympic week here at Dale Street.  Students took time this week to read about the history of the Olympics, learn more about South Korea (the location of this year's Winter Olympics, collaborated in a STEM (science, technology, engineering, & math) bobsled activity, and participated in a curling (measurement) activity.  Fourth grade students and staff definitely earned a Gold Medal this week!

On Thursday, students in Ms. Condon's fifth grade class took time to 'explore' some of their WWII topics and traveled to ancient Mayan and Aztec ruins as well as Outer Space and various National Parks!  So cool!  Thanks MCPE for funding this amazing opportunity for our students and staff!

Thank you to all who donated to the Medfield Animal Shelter.  Students in Mr. Mason's class helped load Mrs. Carey's car so these generous donations could be dropped off today.  Dale Street is such a compassionate community!

Positive Referrals!!!
These students received a Positive Referral this week for demonstrating exceptional positivity, compassion, and flexibility. Great job!

Check out the PTO update which includes information about the class Box Tops competition, the March 10th Winter Carnival, upcoming PTO meetings and more!

So cool....this week students in Ms. Bertschmann class used Flipgrid to share out their understanding during reader's workshop.  Special thanks to their resident expert, Adeline!

MCPE is pleased to be co-sponsoring this incredible author to speak in Medfield. Space is going fast so please reserve space for you and your children today!

MCPE!
Students wasted no time utilizing these unbelievable MCPE funded reading stations.
On Monday evening, members of the Dale Street SWAT (Students Working to Advance Technology) were invited to the School Committee meeting to present on the staff faculty meeting the students facilitated last month.  These young learners did a phenomenal job!

On a visit to Miss Isaacson's forth grade classroom on Thursday, students worked on persuasive essays.  Students worked on writing pieces that tried to convince readers with reasons and evidence.  And look who also took time to visit...Director of Finance and Operations, Mr. LaFrancesca.

Thanks to Maren in Mrs. Flynn's class for reading today's book recommendation. Maren recommended Dork Diaries by Rachel Renee Russel for "people who like realistic fiction books" because "it talks about real life problems and it's full of fun and suspense."  Maren rated this book 5 stars!  Thanks Maren!

On Tuesday, Mrs. Foley's class demonstrated 2 of Dale Street's Core Values, collaboration and continuous growth while teaching Ms. DiPesa's fourth grade class how to make ePortfolios with GoogleSites.  Bravo!

On Friday, students in Mrs. Lowerre's fifth grade class participated in a project based learning lesson: acting as a member of a committee to select and plan next year's field trip.  Awesome energy and collaboration in the room!

February 9, 2018 - Week 23

Hello Dale Street!

Although February vacation is quickly approaching, there were plenty of empowering and engaging activities at #beproudbedale this week.  Take a peek......

Dale Street had its second school-wide assembly this morning highlighting our school's Core Values.  Special thanks to the students in Mrs. Scott's class and Mr. Mason's class for creating and leading the assembly.  They did an outstanding job! Please check out the video shown at the assembly.

On Monday, students in Mrs. Foley's fifth grade class test drove our NEW virtual reality view finders.  On this "trip" students followed a balloon as it traveled through the levels of the atmosphere. A HUGE thank you to our extremely supportive MCPE!

Positive Referrals!!!
These students received a Positive Referral this week for demonstrating exceptional work ethic and compassion. Great job!

Also on Monday, Mrs. Crable's fourth grade class collaborated to see if their electromagnets worked.  They had a blast diving into this cool FOSS lesson.

Congratulations to these students for be selected as Finalist (Tarun) and Honorable Mentions (Isabella, Becket, and Luke) in the GetREAL Poster Contest! GetREAL is a science-based non-profit with a mission to get kids excited about brain and body food.

The Dale Street School has decided to dedicate its second Spirit Day to collecting donations to support the Medfield Animal Shelter. Our school is doing this as way to connect to our community. We began collecting items to donate to the shelter on Monday, February 5th and will continue collecting items through Friday, February 16th. The Medfield Animal Shelter rescues lost or abandoned animals and provides shelter until they find new homes. They depend on donations of food, cleaning supplies and cat litter.  For more information, refer to medfieldshelter.com.  Thank you in advance for your continued support.
As a way to promote spirit, Dale Street students and staff will be able to participate in 'Olympic Day' on Friday, February 16th. On this Olympic themed day students and staff are encouraged to dress to represent an Olympic sport/country.
On Tuesday, students in Mrs. Scott's fourth grade classroom took time to experiment with kinetic energy.  Our young learners love the hands-on approach that our FOSS science kits offer.

Valentine's Day is fast approaching....very exciting! In an effort to ensure safety for all of our students and staff, we are requesting that no food/candy be sent in with Valentine's cards. Teachers will be sending out information in the coming week to detail specific classroom celebrations. The Head Room Parent will be coordinating this effort.  Please keep food and drink to these four categories: something crunchy, something sweet, healthy fruit, and water.  Additionally, please be sensitive of allergies within classrooms.  The snack time and the Valentine's themed activities will take place at different times depending on students’ schedules. Thank you in advance for your assistance to help create a fun and safe day at Dale Street!
