Check it out...Dale Street students have been working on self-portraits. #talent

On Thursday, students in Mrs. Chamblin's fifth-grade class started their Web of Life unit.  Students collaborated on Biosphere 2 in the Arizona desert. So exciting!

Over the last few weeks, all classrooms have been participating in the PTO's sponsored Winter Door Decorating Contest.  Students and staff had a chance to vote this week for the door at each grade level that they thought was the most creative.  Here is a look at the classroom doors.

Although they are all amazing, the winners for each grade are...

Grade 4 - Mrs. Dowd's classroom

Grade 5 - Mrs. Ross'/Mrs. Seaver's classroom

To support discussions at home, listed below is information Grade 4 and Grade 5 students will be concentrating on during their upcoming Sanford Harmony Problem Solving unit.

'OUR VOICES HAVE VALUE!'

The library recently added a puzzle table. The collaborative puzzle was a big hit - it was started on Tuesday, and students from across the school worked together during their WIN times to finish it by Thursday afternoon. Because it was so popular, the library is starting a reverse puzzle library! If you have a puzzle you would like to lend to the library, have your student drop it off with Ms. Sweeney. Once each puzzle is completed it will be returned to the student who brought it in. 300-750 piece puzzles are ideal. If you would like to donate a puzzle, please include a note indicating that you don't want it returned to you.

I have thoroughly enjoyed reading in all of the classrooms over the past few weeks.  This term, I selected the book Each Kindness by Jacqueline Woodson.  This book highlights the importance of being kind to someone when you have the chance and the importance of doing something nice for people every day.  Connecting with the kids is the best part of the job!

#beproudbedale students emulated the USA hockey teams this week in PE with Mrs. Nawrocki.

Students are already utilizing the amazing games/activities donated by families for the PTO Recess initiative.

MCPE is thrilled to announce that Dr. Jodi Parker and the team at Medfield Orthodontics is on board as the Premier Event Sponsor for this year's Spelling Bee! Bee registration is NOW OPEN for kids in grades 2-5. Visit our website for all the details and to register your team:

Thinking about applying to MCPE but not quite sure what we do? It's pretty simple! This all-volunteer group raises money through a series of community events and then we grant the money to fund Teacher Requested programs, curriculum, and enrichment for the Medfield Public School system. Apply here:

As a reminder, students and staff in PreK through Grade 8 will transition to a mask optional environment beginning on Monday, February 28, 2022. This is consistent with the recommendations of DESE and MDPH.  It is the expectation that all students, teachers, and staff who choose to keep their masks on will be supported and respected by all members of our school community. Each family has its own unique circumstances and we must support each other. All of our other current COVID-19 protocols will remain in effect, including students/staff must wear a mask during days 6-10 when returning from a positive test.

We hope that you enjoy some time with your family during the February break.  There will be no school for students on Monday, February 21st through Friday, February 25th. Students will return to school on Monday, February 28, 2022.

Have an awesome vacation!

Best,
Steve

February 11, 2022 - Week 23

 Dear Dale Street Families,

Your children continue to do great work on a daily basis and lead by example! Here are a few photographs and highlights from the week as well as some important updates for you.

Reminder - Monday, February 14th is a half day. Dismissal time is 11:40 a.m. I am asking that all families update their child's School Dismissal Plan and make any changes if your child will be dismissed to a location other than their default location. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Morning snack/breakfast and lunch will not be served on Monday.

Amazing way to end the week...2x Olympic gold medalist & 1x Olympic silver medalist, Kristine Lilly visited #beproudbedale this morning to share her experiences as an Olympic athlete.  It was a great tie-in to the SEL (social-emotional learning) discussions we have been having about perseverance and resilience!  What a treat!

Valentine's Day is on Monday - very exciting!  In an effort to ensure safety for all of our students and staff, we are requesting that no food/candy be sent in with Valentine's cards. On Monday, February 14th, students will enjoy a “Party in a Bag!” Have your child decorate a brown paper lunch bag in a Valentine’s theme. Once decorated, fill it with a few of your child’s favorite food items. Some examples are: juice box or mini water bottle, small salty snack, fun sweet snack (cupcake, cookie), additional items could be a piece of fruit, a small yogurt, or any additional healthy snack.  Adding a little note to your child's bag will definitely make them happy!  Head Room Parents will be coordinating games/crafts for this day.  The snack time and Valentine's themed activities will take place at different times depending on students’ schedules and will be overseen by classroom teachers.

Please note that we will not be serving snack on Monday.

I'm sure that many of you have been watching the Olympics over the past week.  Very exciting for sure!  Just as exciting for me was watching our fourth-grade students and staff participate in an integrated Olympic week here at Dale Street.  Students took time this week to read about the history of the Olympics, learn more about Beijing (the location of this year's Winter Olympics), collaborated in a STEM (science, technology, engineering, & math) bobsled activity, and participated in a curling (measurement) activity.  Fourth-grade students and staff definitely earned a Gold Medal this week!

As you would think, the Olympic theme made its way to the gymnasium too.  This week with Mrs. Nawrocki and Ms. Laughna, our #beproudbedale Rockstars participated in the skeleton, bobsled, and biathlon.

¿Qué ropa lleva el animal? In World Language this week Señora DellaMoinica, Grade 4 students in Mr. Douglas' class drew animals in winter clothing, then described what they were wearing.  ¡Que divertido!

Positive Sign Thursday!

'WE ARE TEAMMATES!'

On Wednesday, Grade 5 students in Mrs. Hayes made similes and metaphors come to life during ELA.  It is great to see the illustrations that correlate to their sentences!

This week, Grade 4 students had the opportunity to share their engineering skills by planning and building a model of a railway footbridge using parts from the new Vex GO kits! Huge thanks to the amazing and very generous MCPE
for providing our students with this wonderful STEM resource.

This week members of our extraordinary PTO visited Dale Street
to drop off new indoor recess games for EVERY classroom. A huge thank you to all of our families who donated. We very much appreciate everyone’s generosity!
