Students at Dale Street School are about to begin a Box Top competition. The competition will begin on Monday, January 22nd and will run until Friday, February 16th. We are hoping for a large turnout for this fun, spirited competition. We hope that you will choose to participate.

January 12, 2018 - Week 19

Hello Dale Street!

First full week of 2018 was filled with AWESOMENESS here at #beproudbedale!  Take a look.....

Congratulations and amazing job to the 4th and 5th grade chorus!  On Wednesday, these students performed at the high school for their families and guests.  Their performance was fantastic! Thank you to Ms. Oxholm for her outstanding leadership with the Dale Street chorus.

In Mrs. Lowerre's fifth grade class this week, students worked collaboratively to dig deeper into character development throughout a story.  Students read short stories together and investigated character change throughout the story.  As an extension, students related specific character changes to their own life experiences.  Amazing!

Thanks to Maggie in Ms. Condon's class for reading today's book recommendation. Maggie recommended Wonder by RJ Palacio for "anyone who needs inspiration and encouragement" because "it has a lot of surprises and it can be sad at parts and happy at parts."  Maggie rated this book 5 stars!  Thanks Maggie!

Grade 5 students in Mrs. Foley's classroom and Ms. Bertschmann's classroom used time this week to develop an understanding that air is matter.  Students were able to experiment with air pressure and compression to better understand our atmosphere.

Students have been very busy in Health and Physical Education as of late.  In Health Education, students in the 5th grade have just finished the Nicotine Unit and are about to begin learning about Adolescent Changes.  Fourth Grade students are beginning a Drug Awareness Unit.

In Physical Education, students have been working very hard as well.  Students continue to polish up throwing, striking and catching skills in a variety of manipulative stations designed to be fun and challenging.  Additionally, students are completing a week of Yoga.  Students are educated about the variety of health benefits that are associated with Yoga.  These include Strength development, Balance, Flexibility and relaxation techniques.  Great for the social/emotional well - being of our students!

On the horizon, we have Scooter Basketball, Fitness Stations and a Volleyball Unit.  So Much Fun, but also great for our Spirit, Mind and Bodies.

What's up in the Dale Street

Students are utilizing design thinking to create a Dale Street makerspace logo.  UNBELIEVABLE!!!

Students in Mr. Douglas' fourth grade class and Mrs. Flynn's fourth grade class worked with the computer program CueThink this week to solve problems involving interpreting remainders.  These young learners did a terrific job with this very tricky concept!
