October 28, 2016 - Week 9

Hello Dale Street Families!

This week Dale Street students had the opportunity to tour the new Public Safety Building. Special thanks to Medfield Police and Medfield Fire for providing this wonderful opportunity and School Resource Officer, Shelley Manganello for taking the students on the tour.

Our fifth graders were visited by the Discovery Museum this week.  Students participated in some really cool activities.  Special thanks to our PTO for providing this opportunity for our students.

Positive Referral!!!
This student received a Positive Referral this week for being extremely helpful.  Great work!

A big thanks to the MCPE for funding our new collaboration whiteboard tables.  Each classroom will receive one of these tables.  The Dale Street students and teachers are SO excited to incorporate them into their learning/teaching!
Ms. MacDonald's fourth grade class loved using the new collaboration tables!

Please come and join us for our first Principal's Coffee next Thursday (11/3) in the Dale Street cafeteria.  We will go over the recently released PARCC data, preview the upcoming parent/teacher conferences, and Officer Manganello will be in attendance to share some of her responsibilities as Medfield's School Resource Officer. The meeting will begin at 8:45 a.m.  Feel free to bring younger children if you are stuck for daycare. Please RSVP here  if you are planning to attend.

Bravo to Mona who read her book recommendation today.  Mona gave the book Ghosts 5 stars because it was funny at some points and some parts give you the chills!
Thanks Mona!

The Lost and Found is overflowing!  If your child is missing a sweatshirt, jacket, hat, lunchbox, water bottle, etc., please ask them to check the Lost and Found.  All unclaimed items will be donated to charity periodically throughout the year.

Parent/teacher conferences are just around the corner.  Letters to families were sent out yesterday.  Click here to view the letter.  Conferences are a wonderful time to check in with your child's teacher about their academic and social/emotional growth. Conference dates are set for Thursday, November 10th and Tuesday, November 15th. Both days are half days for the students with dismissal at 11:40 a.m. Please note that Term I report cards will be sent home on Monday, December 12th.
Click here for an update from the PTO.

On Monday, students in Mrs. Foley's Grade 5 class used Explain Everything to explore multiplying by powers of ten, using the standard algorithm, and solving word problems.  These students are amazing!

Halloween is fast approaching.  Hopefully, the weather will cooperate on Monday night and the kids will have an awesome night.  Please take a moment and check out this website which includes some very important tips on Halloween safety.

Ms. Bertchmann's fifth grade class took time this week to discuss internet safety and digital citizenship.  Check out their recently created 'Digital Footprint' bulletin board.  Thanks for making the school look great!

October 21, 2016 - Week 8

Happy Friday!

As another week comes to a close, I'm happy to share some of the great things happening at Dale Street. Please take a moment to read about both past and upcoming events and enjoy a few highlights from the week.

Today, students in Mr. Douglas' fourth grade classroom participated in math workshop.  Students rotated through centers working on the distributive property.  It is great to see the students so engaged!

Special thanks to MCPE who approved our grant, Dash and Dot codeable robots! We are excited to add these awesome learning tools to our growing makerspace. Thank you to all of the parents who donated at the Fall Ball and contributed to our grant.

Thanks to Victoria who read our book recommendation this week.  Victoria recommended Gooseberry Park by Cynthia Rylant.  She rated it 5 stars because it was funny, silly, and fiction.  Well done!

Thank you to Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Shield for visiting our school this week to share information regarding the MFi Angel Run. The 11th running of the family friendly run/fun-run/walk is Sunday, December 4th at 12 p.m. Sign ups by November 1st will include the popular Angel Run shirt. Register online at MedfieldFoundation.org. All proceeds go to help Medfield residents in need.

Halloween at Dale Street

The Dale Street staff enjoys making Halloween a safe, exciting, and consistent experience for all students. On Monday, October 31st, all of our classrooms:

  • encourage all students to dress up in their costumes.  Please note that students’ faces may not be covered with a mask, hood, or other item. Please do not allow your child to bring fake weapons into school to accompany his/her costume, and particularly violent themes should be avoided.
  • will have Halloween themed activities.  Activities will be teacher-directed and run throughout the day.
  • will have classroom snacks sent into school on October 31st.  The Head Room Parent will be coordinating this effort.  Please keep food and drink to these four categories: something crunchy, something sweet, a healthy fruit, and water.  Additionally, please be sensitive of allergies within classrooms.  The snack time and the Halloween themed activities will take place at different times depending on students’ schedules.

We understand, and are happy that the children will receive a plethora of treats on Halloween night. Come Tuesday, the staff at Dale Street encourages healthy foods for student snack times to help promote optimal learning.  Thank you in advance for your continued support.

Take a peek into Mrs. Crable's grade 4 Writer's Workshop this week......

...that 6 of our Dale Street staff were selected to present at MassCUE at Gillette Stadium this week.  Marissa Foley, Kerry Cowell, Maura Condon, Debby Fromen, Julie Lowerre, and Christy Callahan all presented at this well respected technology conference.  They did a wonderful job and truly represented Dale Street and Medfield well!
