January 26, 2024 - Week 21

 Hello Dale Street,

Wow, there was a lot of awesomeness packed into this week.  Please take a few minutes to scroll through and check out some of the scenes...

Science in action...this week students in Mrs. Scott's and Mrs. Gutierrez's fourth-grade classes made observations and collaborated on energy transfer and worked to complete a circuit.

Grade 4 students had a super fun time last Friday at PTO's Kids' Night Out.  Special thanks to our fabulous PTO for organizing this great event and all of the volunteers who came to help out.

On Thursday, Mrs. Lowerre and Mrs. Knott had a “Library Shelfie Day!" Students had fun discussing and deciding which library shelf was their favorite.

Congratulations to the Dale Street Chorus on their outstanding performance at Wednesday night's concert. The students sounded amazing!

Congratulations to this week's Positive Referrals!

'OUR VOICES HAVE VALUE!'

Medfield SEPAC’s Cards for a Cause fundraiser has started!

Each box contains 30 (or more!) high-quality, hand-embellished cards for $30.00 that, if purchased from a store, would easily cost $4-7 each. Save money now and time later. It's a great deal for a great cause! The money raised will fund our scholarships, awarded to graduating seniors, and help us offer more workshops and events. Fundraiser Dates: Jan 16th - Feb 14

Order here: https://www.kidsbookfort.com/orgs/sepac For any questions, please contact: sepac@email.medfield.net Thanks in advance for your support!

Our Communications Workshop will be held on January 23rd at 7:30 pm in the Blake Middle School Library. This popular workshop will teach participants to create a one-page snapshot of their child. This resource is helpful for teachers, coaches, counselors, babysitters, and anyone who interacts with your child. We offer childcare for these workshops, and a remote link can be provided upon request. Please RSVP to sepac@email.medfield.net and bring a laptop or tablet with you to work on your snapshot.

Parent Connection Groups, each focused on a different diagnosis, are underway. These groups are informal meet-ups for parents and caregivers to connect and exchange resources on a particular diagnosis. They are coordinated by a parent volunteer. Your child does not need an IEP, 504 or be in the Medfield Public School system to join. This group is for any parent who wishes to connect with other parents who have experience with this diagnosis. If you are interested in joining the Down Syndrome, ADHD, ASD or Dyslexia + LBLD or Mental Health groups please email sepac@email.medfield.net

Did you hear the news? We just launched our brand-new newsletter, and it's full of useful information. Subscribe now by sending an email to SEPAC@email.medfield.net, and don't forget to follow us on IG (@medfieldsepac) or FB for updates!

Fourth-grade students in Ms. Spittel's Spanish classes described themselves using Spanish adjectives (yo soy = I am) and illustrated their descriptions!

Fifth-grade students in Ms. Spittel's Spanish classes wrote Spanish sentences using an animal, food and drink words, and a location, which Ms. Spittel then used to create an AI-generated image.  These slides are then used for discussions throughout our food and drinks unit!

Valentine's Day is fast approaching....very exciting!  To ensure the safety of all of our students and staff, we are requesting that no food/candy be sent in with Valentine's cards. If a student decides to bring in Valentine's, there should be one for every student in their class. On Wednesday, February 14th, students will enjoy a “Party in a Bag!” Have your child decorate a brown paper lunch bag with a Valentine’s theme. Once decorated, fill it with a few of your child’s favorite food items. Some examples are: juice box or mini water bottle, small salty snack, fun sweet snack (cupcake, cookie), additional items could be a piece of fruit, a small yogurt, or any additional healthy snack.  Adding a little note to your child's bag will definitely make them happy!  Head Room Parents will be coordinating a game or craft during snack time for this day.

Thanks to our Friday DJs who kept the lunchroom rockin' today.

This week students in Mrs. Dowd’s fourth-grade class dove deeper into multiplicative comparison problems - learning together with collaborative conversations.

MCPE UPDATE – WEEK OF 1/22/2024

Volunteer with MCPE and make a difference for our kids and schools!

Are you looking for a way to give back to Medfield Public Schools? Join the Medfield Coalition for Public Education!

MCPE is an independent, non-profit organization funded to provide system-wide support and academic enrichment for the Medfield Public Schools through grants for the development of innovative programs, curriculum, and enrichment. MCPE is led by a volunteer board that works throughout the school year to organize community-wide fundraising events and make grants to teachers and staff at all five Medfield Public Schools.

We’re recruiting new board members to start in the 2024-25 school year! If you are interested in becoming an MCPE board member, we would love to hear from you. We're looking for candidates who can commit to a 3-year term, attend board meetings once a month (Sept-June), and have an active interest in enriching kids' education in Medfield schools. All skill sets are welcome, and we strive to have a board with diverse backgrounds.

Learn more and apply here: https://www.medfieldcoalition.org/volunteer

SAVE THE DATE:

Early March – March Madness bracket pool benefitting MCPE!

Monday, March 18 – Spelling Bee for Wheelock and Dale students!

Mid-May – MCPE's Blue Ribbon Recognition Program gives you the chance to honor a Medfield teacher or staff member who has made a positive impact in a student's life and show your appreciation!

As a reminder, school dismisses at 2:55 p.m.  If you are planning to pick up your child in the afternoon, I am asking families to arrive between 2:55 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.  There has been an increase in traffic issues on Dale Street and North Street and the Medfield Police have asked me to remind families of the dismissal time and request that families arrive between 2:55 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. and not before.  In addition, the Recreation Department has asked that children not be picked up in their parking lot.  It is a very big safety concern.  Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
