January 28, 2022 - Week 21

Hello Dale Street,

Wow, was there a lot of awesomeness packed into this cold, last week of January!  Take a few minutes to scroll through and check out some of the scenes.....

Over the past few weeks, Dale Street 5th graders have been working with Health teacher, Ms. Laughna on nicotine awareness projects, Students are researching, learning, and creating videos!  Can't wait to see the final products!

On Friday, February 4th Dale Street will have an Olympic Spirit Day.  Students and staff are encouraged to dress as an athlete or in gear from their favorite country.  Patriotic apparel...sports uniforms, t-shirts, and everything in between.
Please see our updated COVID Guidelines and COVID dashboard
Look for an email for our next Covid Vaccine Clinic at Dale on Wednesday 2/9

On a visit to Ms. Hayes' fourth-grade classroom on Wednesday, students were involved in great brainstorming, both independently & collaboratively, during their science lesson. Students drafted blueprints and tested their ideas.  Great work, young learners!

This week, grade 5 students participated in live presentations focused on water conservation and stormwater.  These presentations are put on by the Neponset River Watershed Association and funded by the Town of Medfield.

Positive Sign Thursday!

'WE ARE BRAVE!'

Valentine's Day is fast approaching....very exciting!  In an effort to ensure safety for all of our students and staff, we are requesting that no food/candy be sent in with Valentine's cards. On Monday, February 14th, students will enjoy a “Party in a Bag!” Have your child decorate a brown paper lunch bag in a Valentine’s theme. Once decorated, fill it with a few of your child’s favorite food items. Some examples are: juice box or mini water bottle, small salty snack, fun sweet snack (cupcake, cookie), additional items could be a piece of fruit, a small yogurt, or any additional healthy snack.  Adding a little note to your child's bag will definitely make them happy!  Head Room Parents will be coordinating games/crafts for this day.  The snack time and Valentine's themed activities will take place at different times depending on students’ schedules and will be overseen by classroom teachers.

This week in Ms. DiPesa's fourth-grade class students were super engaged - connecting signposts to their Greek mythology book.  Great work! Special thanks to our very generous PTO for funding these fantastic book sets for the entire 4th grade. Students and teachers love them!

Hi parents and students at Dale Street School!

Julie Letai, a fellow Medfielder and former Dale Street student, is an Olympic Speed Skater and will be participating in the Winter Olympics on February 9th and 13th!

If you would like to send along a note, video, or photo of encouragement, please upload it on this Padlet.  Feel free to do family or group messages as well. And, don’t forget your red, white, and blue, or even a photo in front of a Medfield landmark. This is a great activity to do during the snowstorm this weekend!

Please submit your well wishes by February 5th.

If you have any questions, please reach out to Lindsay Rogers uflindsay@gmail.com or Alice Jreige alice.jreige@gmail.com

Today, students in Mrs. Nee's and Mrs. Chamblin's grade 5 classes turned the Dale Street cafeteria into a Stem classroom.  Students worked collaboratively to figure out how to create a crate that could float their teabag. Great integration into their social studies lesson!

Students and staff are invited to participate in the Dale Street School March Madness Free Throw Shooting Contest.  The contest begins Tuesday, March 1st. Click here for more information.  Registration deadline is Friday, February 11th.

Bravo to Ms. Johnson's and Ms. McKenzie's classes for facilitating today’s SEL assembly. Students shared their research and staff interviews to highlight the importance of resilience. What an important characteristic!  Phenomenal job, everyone!

As always, thank you for reading.  Stay safe, enjoy the snow and have a great weekend!

January 14, 2022 - Week 19

 Hello Dale Street Families,

I hope that you all had a fantastic week. Your children continue to work incredibly hard under continued difficult circumstances.  They are ROCKSTARS who continue to show resilience and a dedication to learning and growing.  Please take a look at the photos below of just a few snapshots of activities at #beproudbedale.

How can you protect a house you won in a sweepstakes from being demolished by a landslide? Students in Mrs. Flynn's fourth-grade class used their critical thinking/engineering skills engineering to plan how to prevent this natural hazard from destroying their house.  Fantastic job!

Check this out...This week, Grade 5 students are learning about the Big 6 research model and how to apply it to their History and Me project. The conversations and ideas in the Makerspace with Ms. Sweeney have been great!

Random Acts of Kindness Board

For the month of January, the Dale Street PTO has set up a Random Act of Kindness Bulletin Board by the teachers' room to celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Junior Day. Dr. Martin Luther King Junior Day is a national day of service to encourage all Americans to volunteer to improve their communities.  The bulletin board has envelopes that have cards with acts of kindness written on them. Students can choose a card from an envelope and perform an act of kindness.  Students can then have a family member or staff member at Dale Street take a picture of them performing the act of kindness. Students can turn that picture into the office and office staff will hang it up on the bulletin board here at school. “Everyone can be great, because everyone can serve.” ~Martin Luther King, Jr

Although the pandemic forced us to shut down our January concerts, the fifth-grade band had an outstanding performance on Wednesday morning for the recording of their winter concert. We are so proud of their hard work this semester!

Today, Mr. Cole (husband of Dale Street staff member, Mrs. Cole) visited our Garde 5 students. Mr. Cole helped students with their History & Me projects by assisting them in learning about the interview process.

Grade 4 students in Ms. Plympton's class took time this week to find the main idea of nonfiction articles related to their science unit on rapid changes.  Great work, young learners!

Positive Sign Thursday!

'WE ARE DETERMINED!'

Check this out...This week, Grade 5 students in Mrs. Ross' and Mrs. Seaver's class worked incredibly hard solving a very tricky math problem.  Great perseverance!

Winter is here!  Please make sure your children come to school dressed appropriately for the cold weather.  Students will have recess OUTSIDE if the 'feels like' temperature is 20 or above.  Hats, gloves, and coats are strongly encouraged.  Additionally, students need to have snow boots and snow pants if they want to play in the snow.  Students without snow gear will have to remain on the blacktop.

Thank you to all the students and staff who participated in today's spirit day.  All the various hats were awesome!
