January 27, 2017 - Week 21

Hello Dale Street Community!

K-5 Technology Integration Specialist, Mrs. Debby Fromen is taking time to visit all of the Dale Street classrooms over the next few weeks to share integrated Chromebook lessons.  So far the students love it!

On a visit to Mrs. Foley's fifth grade class this week, students participated in math workshop. During this time students were involved in small group learning, hands-on learning, and technology integration.  What a great structure to learn and review math!

The Dale St PTO is sponsoring another fun filled 1/2-day movie event on February 7, 2017.  Please sign up to watch A Secret Life of Pets in the Dale St. cafeteria with your friends and classmates. Snacks (nut free) and drinks will be available for purchase for $1.00 each. Please also bring a bag lunch/drink as the school will not be providing lunch. Permission slip is available in the Thursday packet. Parent volunteers are needed to chaperone this event! Please contact Patti Kelly at pattikelly48@hotmail.com if you are able to help out or if you have any questions.
Thank you to Abby for reading our book recommendation today.  Abby recommended The Land of Stories because it is a cliff hanger and has adventure and fiction.  Abby gave this book 5 stars.  Thanks Abby!

Students at #beproudbedale spent some time this week involved in project based learning.  Our MCPE funded BreakoutEDU experiences are the best!  One student's comment...."This is the best thing we've done in school ever!"
Dale Street School Intramural Program
Winter/Spring 2017 Session
The Dale Street School Intramural Program offers students opportunities for fun and learning in a relaxed setting of an after school club.  Winter/Spring session will begin the week of January 30th.
Students pay a fee for each Intramural activity (district policy= $8 per class x number of classes and $10 per class for languages.)  Please note that the activity fee is non-refundable.  Some activities may have an additional materials fee (see attached Activity Schedule Sheet) which is included in the fee.
This year the Intramural program will have club sign ups online.   The link to the online form is located on the Dale St. Web page under Activities, then click intramurals.  Please have your child make their choice,  fill out the online form and return payment in an envelope labeled “Intramural Program”.  The payment must be returned to school in order to complete the registration:  Payment can be either cash or check. Please make check(s) payable to:  Medfield Public Schools.  (Provide a separate payment for each activity )
Note: the last day to register is January 26th.
Activities are limited in the number of participants, and we will do our best to accommodate your child's first choice.  Some activities are scheduled on the same date so students should choose their activity carefully.  Also please notice that some activities have both a winter and spring edition.  All placements are on a first come first served basis.
Each activity runs according to the dates listed on the Activity Selection Sheet. Typically the programs are 3 PM to 4:30 PM.  Children must be picked up no later than 4:30 PM at the Adams St. /Office Area.  Any child who will not be picked up by an adult will need a hand written note with permission to walk or the name of person who is picking up your child and present it to the Intramural teacher at the beginning of class.
Thank you for your help in making our Intramural Program a continued success.
Special thanks to Chief Kingsbury for visiting Dale Street this week and answering Emily's questions for her research paper on the history of smoke alarms.

Dale Street Chorus

Choral Extravaganza is this Monday, January 30, 2017
Students of the Dale Street Chorus should report to
The Blake Middle School Gymnasium at 6:00 pm
Concert Dress is white tops and black pants or slacks.
Come and see the choral program in action,
Grades 4 - 12!

Please remember there are no student dropoffs allowed in the bus loop on Adams Street or Dale Street between 8:00 - 8:25 a.m.  Buses are dropping off students during that time, and it creates a safety issue.  Students may be dropped off in the parking lot between the Dale Street School and the Pfaff Center.  Additionally, vehicles should not use the bus loop on Dale Street or Adam Street between 2:40 - 3:20 p.m.  Buses are in and out of the bus loops continuously during this time and vehicles in either of these two loops creates  dangerous safety situations.  Student pick up is located in the same area as the morning drop off.  Thank you in advance for your cooperation!
8:10 and 8:25.

Patriots Spirit Day!

Dale Street School will have a Patriots Spirit Day on Friday, February 3rd to support the Patriots as they take on the Falcons in the Super Bowl.  Staff and students are encouraged to come to school in their Patriots attire or attire that supports their favorite football team.

As always, participation in spirit days is voluntary.

As always thanks for reading!  Have a great weekend!

Sincerely,

Steve

Congratulations to Mrs. Evans, Mr. Ruggiero, Mrs. Stover and our 4th and 5th grade Orchestras for an amazing concert last night. Dale Street students performed spectacularly!
Bravo to our fantastic musicians!

Students in Mrs. Scott's fourth grade class have been working hard during writer's workshop composing and finalizing their persuasive essays.

Thanks once again to the MCPE and PTO for supporting Dale Street. Mrs. Vancura's grant for Noise Reducing Headphones (see below) was generously approved by the MCPE.  Additionally, Wheelock Principal, Mrs. Olson and I wrote an MCPE grant to host Urban Improv, a Boston theater group, who will perform for our students. The performances are interactive and some of our students will participate.

The Dale Street PTO recently approved our request for funds to purchase some updated book titles for our newly remodeled Library Media Center and funds to replenish some makerspace materials.  #VeryGrateful

So happy for Will in Mr. Mason's class as he received a return letter and autographed picture from Patriots Head Coach, Bill Belichick!

Join us for an elementary parent discussion of the book The Price of Privilege, by Madeline Levine, Ph.D. This New York Times bestseller addresses the importance of fostering resilience in our children and how parents’ best intentions can go awry. Click here for details.

Students in Ms. Burnham's fifth grade class spent time this week using Nearpod to research climate change.

Thank you to Nora in Mr. Douglas' fourth grade class for reading today's book recommendation.  Nora recommended Petey by Ben Mikaelsen because it is very heartwarming and will make you never want to drop the book.  Thanks Nora!

Please click here for the PTO update.

Ms. Walunas' fifth grade students visited Dale Street's makerspace this week to persevere, create and have fun!

Dale Street students and staff looked great as they celebrated Patriots Spirit Day today!

A student who was working in the LMC recently and made this reflection on their own!  This is hanging in an area titled 'Museum of Mistakes.'  What a powerful reflection and a wonderful representation of a growth mindset!
