March 3, 2023 - Week 24

Hello Dale Street Families,

I hope that you all had a wonderful February break from school and maybe even work. Looks like winter is finally here as the snow and cold weather have returned. Please remember to dress your children accordingly, as we go outside as much as possible. We had an awesome first week back at #beproudbedale.  Please take a few minutes to scroll through to see some of the highlights and keep updated about important upcoming events and dates.

Congratulations to this week's Positive Referrals!

Today, students in Mrs. Dowd's fourth-grade class participated in a hands-on activity highlighting heat energy and energy transfer.  fun + learning = engaged

On a visit to Mrs. Skinner's this week, students worked together to identify point of view and how point of view affects a story.  Students had awesome discussions!

Students had a blast playing in the snow this week.

This week with Mr. Ahern, fifth graders applied their knowledge of angles to program the Sphero Bolt robot to roll in the shape of a square. Students also added light and sound effects to their lines of code. Collaboration and computational thinking were evident with this challenge!

Tomorrow, 3 Dale Street Teams (listed below) will be competing in the Destination Imagination Tournament at Medfield High School.  Each team and its participants have put in countless hours and effort.  Please join me in wishing these Dale Street Rockstars the very best of luck.  The event is open to the public.  Visitors are encouraged to attend.

“DI Gamers” with Logan Bergiel, Dean Childers, Nolan Herman, Josh MacLean, Sean Peters, Deke Pingpank, and Colin Reitz, managed by Lauren Bergiel, Kaleen Childers, and Beth Peters

“Medfield Thrillers” with Ryan Dorman, Nate Hern, Ryan Kenworthy, Rubin Liu, Wyler Smith, Teddy Smits, and Brooks Weber, managed by Randal Kenworthy and Jennifer Hern.

“The Flaming Marshmallows” with Jaclyn Callender, Serena Marciniszyn, and Amelia Wacek, managed by Irene Callender and Sonali Pandya.

On Wednesday, Grade 4 students in Mrs. Scott's class used time during math to convert and compare metric units.  Special thanks to Dale Street Math Specialist, Mrs. Perachi for all of her assistance.  These students are so talented!

Don't forget...

March Madness started today and continues next week for those players/teams that have not yet taken their first-round shots.  Teams advancing to Round 2 will be notified as soon as Round 1 is completed (top 32 scores).

First-round shots (10 per player) must be taken between 7:50 am-8:25 a.m. in the gym on Tuesday, March 7th for Grade 5 and Friday, March 10th for Grade 4.  These dates are only for students/teams who have not shot their first-round shots yet.  The gym will also be open on Monday, March 6th as a makeup day for students to shoot if they would like.  As a reminder, here are the rules:
  • Each team takes 30 free throws per round
  • All team members do not need to be present to shoot free throws
  • The teams with the most free throws made (out of 30) will move on to the next round
  • Anyone wearing Medfield apparel will get 1 bonus shot per article of clothing (max 2 items).  No sharing clothing. No drawings or stickers.
  • Get up-to-date information in the cafeteria
This week, Grade 5 students in Mrs. Hayes' class participated in a hands-on activity learning more about the food chain.  Students worked collaboratively to discuss the interrelationships between organisms and how the food chain works.
