March 10, 2023 - Week 25

  Hello Dale Street Community!

What a fantastic week here at #beproudbedale!  This week's blog is jammed packed full of awesomeness and contains helpful information and dates for our students and families.  Take a peek...

Last Friday night, Grade 4 students came back to school to participate in the PTO's sponsored Kids' Night Out.  Huge shout out to our amazing PTO and the parent volunteers for setting up a fun and exciting night for these students. Everyone loved the dancing, photo booth, and food!

Congratulations to our Term 2 Math Challenge Winners: Sam and Olivia! Special thanks to Mrs. Perachi for overseeing this enrichment opportunity.

This week, Dale Street celebrated Reading Across America week.  The spirit days were very popular and beginning the week with High School students (and Dale Street alumni) reading to our students was awesome! Special thanks to Mrs. Cowell, Mrs. Lowerre, and Mrs. Knott for setting up a great week!

For the month of March, the Dale Street Student Council has voted to collect items for Boston Children's Hospital!  The Student Council is asking students to bring new (packaged) arts and crafts materials as well as gift cards elementary-aged students may be able to use.  We will begin collecting on Monday, March 6th, and will continue until Thursday, March 30th.

Congratulations to this week's Positive Referral!

Grade 4 students in Mrs. Dowd's class and Mrs. Scott's class had a blast working with our PTO-funded root robots.  Students love coding and using these great learning tools!

Elementary Principal Webinar

On Wednesday, March 29th at 4:30PM, the three elementary principals will be hosting a Student Placement Webinar for interested families. We will be discussing the placement process and parental input process for the 2023-2024 school year.  We hope you will be able to join us.  However, if not, the webinar will be recorded and shared with anyone unable to attend. If you have a specific question you would like addressed, or if there is a particular placement topic you would like discussed, please complete this form by Sunday, March 26th.

Positive Sign Thursday!

'WE HAVE WHAT IT TAKES!'

The DI teams from Dale Street did an awesome job at the Destination Imagination tournament last weekend.  Congratulations to all the teams and a special shout out to the Flaming Marshmallows who won the Elementary Improvisational Challenge and have advanced to Globals.

Congratulations to Jaclyn, Serena, and Amelia (managed by Jaclyn's mom and Serena's mom).

The Round of 32 of our March Madness Tournament begins next week.  Preliminary Round scores will be posted in the cafeteria on Monday at lunch.  Students and staff who made it to the Round of 32 will need to shoot 10 free throws during one of the following days: Tuesday, 3/14 or Friday, 3/17, between 7:50 a.m. - 8:20 a.m.  Please note that all team members do not have to come on the same day, but all need to shoot the free throws by Friday, 3/17.

March 13 - March 17

Neurodiversity Celebration Week provides schools with the opportunity to acknowledge the many strengths and advantages of being neurodivergent. By flipping the narrative, schools can create a more inclusive and equitable environment. We will be focusing on the many strengths and positive aspects that being Neurodivergent brings.  Next week Dale Street will view videos informing students about neurodiversity,  hear recordings of picture books highlighting neurodiversity, and celebrate Positive Sign Thursday.

This week in World Language with Señora Spittel, Grade 4 students created FlipGrids describing their favorite season and weather conditions that occur in that season.

Grade 5 students gave presentations of their BookCreator projects where they researched foods and popular activities in a given Spanish-speaking country and created a short story using the language they have learned so far to teach their classmates.

Medfield Elementary Literacy Night and Book Fair

SAVE THE DATE: Tuesday, March 21, 2023
TIME: 5:30-8 PM
LOCATION: Dale Street School

Come bring your family and join us at our annual Elementary Literacy Night and Book Fair. This night will include fun interactive reading activities, special guest teachers reading their favorite books, and exciting raffles! Park Street Books will be setting up an amazing book sale with new releases and kid favorites across the grades. Jim James is generously giving 20% of the book fair sales back to our PTO, so it’s a great way to update your home library while giving back to the schools. More details to come!

The PTO is launching a month-long "Dale St. Class Library Stock Up Event" where they will be collecting donations to buy books off Teacher Wishlists.   Use this SignUp Genius link to donate:

This week, students in Mrs. Guiteriez's fourth-grade class shared their opinions in a class debate: Should animals be kept in zoos?  Room 1 had some strong and great opinions supported by evidence!

So many ways to be involved with MCPE this month!

First up, MCPE is sponsoring a March Madness bracket pool to benefit the MCPE 35th Anniversary Appeal. This year, you can watch hoops while supporting Medfield Public Schools! Click here to sign up now ($20/bracket). Brackets will be available to complete on March 12 and must be completed by 12:15pm on March 16. There will be cash prizes, including $500 for the winning bracket!

Next comes the MCPE annual Spelling Bee on March 28! Students in grades 2-5 will practice T-E-A-M-W-O-R-K while putting their heads together to spell increasingly challenging words. All while in costume, of course. This Spelling Bee is always a ton of F-U-N! Click here to learn more and sign up.

Finally, there’s still time to get your 35th Anniversary Appeal blue ribbon and help us paint the town blue! Every Medfield residence that makes a charitable contribution to the 35th Anniversary Appeal will receive a blue ribbon placed on their mailbox. You can showcase your support for Medfield Public Schools by donating to MCPE's 35th Anniversary Appeal and proudly displaying a blue ribbon, helping us paint the town blue! Click here to learn about what the money raised will support at each of Medfield’s five schools and donate today!

This week, students in Mrs. Flynn's fourth-grade class started their Greek Mythology book groups.  Students love this unit!
