October 5, 2018 - Week 6

Greetings Dale Street Community!

Another busy, but extraordinary week at #beproudbedale this week.  Please take a minute to scroll through and take a peek.

On a visit to Miss Carlyle's fifth grade class, students used time to explore various ways to estimate numbers.

Congratulations to our Positive Referrals this week.  Thank you for making our school such a great place!   We are very proud of you!

This student has shown some very impressive writing!

This student was extremely helpful!

This student was very courteous and respectful!

This student was very kind and thoughtful!

This student showed great responsibility!

In math this week, Mrs. Scott's fourth grade students collaborated by commenting on each other's math work.  What a great way to model this important Core Value!

Ms. Bertschmann's, Mrs. Foley's, Ms. Condon's, and Ms. Costello's fifth grade classrooms all grabbed the minimal amount of sunlight light this week to investigate their shadows.  Their focus: understanding the relationship between the Earth and the Sun.

Please join us as we celebrate our first community connection of the 2018-2019 school year.  From Monday, October 15th through Friday, November 2nd, the Dale Street School will be collecting items to donate to the Medfield Food Cupboard.  Items we will be collecting are:

Beef Stew
Chili
Hot Cereal
Cookies/ Crackers
Canned Fruit
Applesauce
Kid Friendly Cereal
Raisins-6 packs please
Jam/Jelly

There will be a collection bin in each classroom.  We hope you can contribute by donating to the Medfield Food Cupboard and join us in helping others.

To help support Dale Street's first community connection, the Student Advisory Council (with input from their classmates) have decided to have a school-wide Spirit Day on Friday, November 2nd.  The theme will be 'Pajama Day.' Students are encouraged to come to school in their PJ's on this day. As always, participation in spirit days is completely voluntary.

Check out the PTO update for important information.  Don't forget: THE YANKEE CANDLE AND MIXED BAG FUNDRAISER IS HERE!!  This is one of our biggest fundraisers of the year! Please take a look at the flyers that came home in your child’s backpack.

Thanks to Jack in Mrs. Flynn's class for reading today's book recommendation.  Jack recommended Star Wars Complete Vehicles by Davis West Reynolds for "people who like Star Wars."  Jack rated this book infinity stars!  Thanks Jack!

Students in Mrs. Ross' fourth grade classroom are participating in a postcard exchange.  Our young learners will be exchanging postcards with classrooms in the US and Canada.  So fun!

On Friday, students in Mrs. Lowerre's fifth grade classroom participated in an Intro to the Aztecs lesson.  Students used the PTO funded Walking Classrooms to enhance the lesson and get some exercise at the same time!

Fourth Grade Physicals
If you have not yet submitted a current physical, completed in the past two years, for your fourth grade student, please do so as soon as possible. Massachusetts law mandates that we have documentation of a current physical on file for each student.

Nurse Substitutes Needed…Can you help?
Substituting will offer the opportunity to learn what school nursing involves and to interact with our wonderful students. The need is sporadic, but the rewards are great! A current Massachusetts RN license is required. Duties include: tending to the health needs of the students and staff, dispensing medication, and communicating with parents. A basic orientation is provided. Please speak to any of the school nurses for more information or contact the superintendent’s office for an application.

In Physical Education on Wednesday, Ms. Costello's fifth grade class collaborated and helped one another with throwing techniques.  We have some talented throwers and talented peer coaches!
