December 1, 2017 - Week 14

Dear Dale Street Families,

What a terrific week!  The students and staff returned from Thanksgiving break refreshed and energized!  Check out some of the AWESOMENESS from this week.....

Dale Street was featured in a recent Medfield Press article.  You can check out the article here.

Thanks to Maggie in Ms. Condon's class for reading today's book recommendation.  Maggie recommended Wish by Barbara O'Connor for "anybody who likes realistic fiction" because "it is a good book and is terrific read!"  Maggie rated this book 5 stars!  Thanks Maggie!

Congratulations to our Wire Craft raffle winners for 2017!  Special thanks to Ms. Sager and her class for organizing this event and all of the Dale Street community who donated to Coalition for Courage.

Please take a moment to check out Global Giving 2017, episode 4

Fourth grade P.E. classes had a little fun before Thanksgiving.
With the promise of snow in the air we recreated the famous
Iditarod Run. To complete the challenge each team needed to
safely deliver their six “mushers” across the gym floor and back.

Positive Referral!!!
These students received Positive Referrals this week for being helpful, supportive and positive school citizens.  Great work!

This week, students in Mrs. LeVangie's World Language class created their own language lab to use the EdTech tool, Book Creator.  Great work!

Thank you, Medfield!!  With your help we have crossed the $50,000 mark in our 30th anniversary fundraising campaign.  Through your generosity we are able to fund so many important grants for all of our five schools.  There is still time to donate, so if you haven't had the chance, please visit our website www.medfieldcoalition.org  Thank you!!

Since winter is approaching fast we need to wrap up to stay warm. But sadly there are many kids in Massachusetts who do not have all the essentials to wrap up in. So in the Dale Street foyer there is a box for new or gently used pre-winter clothing items to give to the organization Cradles to Crayons, which gives the items you donate to kids in need! This collection will be ongoing up until December 10th. All donations are welcome and greatly appreciated!

The Dale Street Student Advisory Council met this morning.  The Student Advisory Council initiated the idea of creating holiday cards for individuals in the military, residents of the Thomas Upham House, and patients at Children's Hospital.  Dale Street students are encouraged to create cards for one, two, or all three of these groups.  Students may create as many cards as they wish.  The specifics for the cards are:
*Written on 8 1/2 x 11 paper
*Just include first name (no personal information)
*Some possible ideas: draw holiday items, thank you for your service, get well soon, stay strong, stay safe, happy holidays, happy New Year
*Students can make more than one card if they want
*Cards are due back to school by Friday, December 15th

Participation is voluntary.

Check out the PTO update, which includes information about Grade 5 yearbooks, the Holiday Fair at Park Street Books, Movie on the Half Day and more!

We have been very fortunate that we have not had  a lot of bad weather this school year.  However, as the school year moves forward, there will inevitably be days we need to have indoor recess before school.  If your student is a 5th grader and you drop them off in the rear parking lot, please pull forward to the front entrance of the gym; if your student is a 4th grader, please drop off at the regular drop off spot, so he or she can hurry into the cafeteria.  This way we keep our students as dry and warm as possible.  Thanks!

The Lost & Found is overflowing!!!  Please check the Lost & Found for missing coats, fleeces, lunch boxes and water bottles.  Unclaimed items will be donated to charity on Dec 22!
