May 5, 2017 - Week 33

Happy May Dale Street!

We hope that your first week of May has been magnificent! We had an awesome week here at #beproudbedale and want to share some of that awesomeness with you.

Our fifth grade classrooms visited the Christa McAuliffe Center at Framingham State University this week.  Using the concept of simulation as an instructional tool, the Challenger Center program created an exciting, cooperative learning environment for students at Dale Street to better understand the challenges of teamwork, problem-solving, communication, and decision making.  Every crew member (student) was assigned to, and trained for, a specific role. They took their positions in either Mars Control or the Spacecraft and assumed control of an exciting two hour mission simulation to Mars.

Thanks to Amy and Chloe from Ms. DiPesa's class for sharing their AWESOME math project with me.  What creative, intelligent young learners!
Positive Referrals This Week....

Isabel was recognized for going above and beyond for her classmates!

Congratulations to these fine students for being named Positive Referrals for exemplifying responsibility.  We are very proud of you!

The Lost and Found is overflowing again!  If your child is missing a sweatshirt, jacket, hat, lunchbox, water bottle, etc., please ask them to check the Lost and Found.  All unclaimed items will be donated to charity at the end of the year.

Upcoming MCAS Dates
Grade 4: May 16 and 17 (Mathematics).
Grade 5: May 18 and 19 (Mathematics) and May 22 and 23 (Science, Technology and Engineering).
Students in Mrs. Crable's fourth grade class used time this week in math stations to explore different ways to measure and identify angles.

MCPE Book Drive: Clear out your nearly-new children’s books & bring them to Park Street Books. Depending on their condition & popularity, a donation will be made toward MCPE’s funding for Innovative Learning in Medfield Public Schools.  Book Drive Flyer

On Tuesday, our Grade 4 students donned their fancy attire for the day at the Wheelock Family Theatre to see the production of Charlotte's Web.  Students and staff loved the performance!

The PTO is celebrating the great teachers at Dale Street all of next week. Please view this letter which details all the wonderful ways to recognize Dale Street's wonderful teachers.

Information for Grade 5 Postural Screening can be viewed here.

A huge thank you to our very generous PTO for supplying these great treats for staff on Tuesday and the wonderful appreciation posters.  They were very much appreciated!

It was great to visit the LMC this week and observe Ms. DiPesa's fourth grade class beginning their state projects using design thinking!  Special thanks to Mrs. Cowell for creating this project based learning activity!
