November 4, 2016 - Week 10

Hello Dale Street!

Dale Street students and staff kicked off Global Giving month this morning with a wonderful, school-wide assembly. This assembly will hopefully inspire students to get involved in our school-wide effort to assist Coalition for Courage. Please consider getting involved.

In November, the Dale Street School will celebrate Global Giving.  Global Giving is one way our school connects to the world around us.  The Dale Street community will raise money for a community in Zimbabwe.  Students and families will have multiple opportunities to donate throughout the month to this worthwhile cause.  In support of this Global Awareness, the Student Advisory Council is promoting a school-wide pajama day Spirit Day.  Pajama day will take place on Friday, November 18th.  Students and staff are encouraged to wear their most comfortable pajamas on this day.  Students may also bring in their favorite (preferably small) stuffed animal.  We hope everyone will participate in this fun day; however, participation is optional.

On Monday, Grade 4 classrooms were involved in 'Pumpkin Math'.  Thank you to all the parents who came in to assist in the classrooms.  We were happy to have you!

The Dale Street staff got into the fun on Monday!  Happy Halloween from all of us at Dale Street!
Check out some of the great costumes from Monday......

It was a pleasure to meet with parents on Thursday for our first Principal's Coffee of the school year. The topics of discussion were the recently released PARCC/MCAS data, upcoming parent/teacher conferences, and Officer Manganello was in attendance and shared some of her responsibilities as Medfield's School Resource Officer.  Thank you to all who were able to attend and to the food service staff who provided coffee and snacks. If you were not able to attend, the PowerPoint from the presentation can be found on the Dale Street website. The next coffee will be held on March 10th. I hope to see you there.
Special thanks to Anna who read her book recommendation during today's morning announcements.  Anna gave the book The War that Saved My Life 5 stars because it is sad and happy!  Thanks Anna!

On Tuesday, Mrs. Flynn's fourth grade class and Ms. Hayes' fourth grade class visited the Dale Street LMC to participate in math workshop.  Students rotated through three centers to gain a deeper understanding of mathematics.  Great student engagement!

The Lost and Found is overflowing!  If your child is missing a sweatshirt, jacket, hat, lunchbox, water bottle, etc., please ask them to check the Lost and Found.  All unclaimed items will be donated to charity periodically throughout the year.

Ms. Bertschmann's fifth grade class gave our new Chromebooks a ride this afternoon.  Students used BrainPop and quizizz as they worked on the Chromebooks.

Pokemon Cards As many of you know, Pokemon cards have been and continue to be very popular with many children. In past years, schools have needed to ban these cards due to issues with trading and loss both in school and on the bus. We are seeing more and more of these cards coming to school and are carefully monitoring the situation. Should the cards become a problem, they may not be allowed at school going forward. Currently, students are asked to keep all toys, including Pokemon cards, in their bags during the school day. I will keep you updated as to any decisions.
