May 21, 2021 - Week 31

 Hello Dale Street Families,

We hope that you had a great week - we sure did!  This week included the announcement that students could be mask-free at recess, we completed all of our MCAS sessions, had a fun spirit day, and participated in a whole lot of fun learning experiences.  I hope you take just a few minutes to take a look.

Congratulations to these Positive Referral recipients.  These #beproudbedale ROCKSTARS displayed our Core Values in and out of their classrooms.  Thank you for helping make Dale Street a great place!

This week our Grade 4 students continued to learn about the hardships of Westward Expansion.  Students had fun diving deeper with the Oregon Trail.

What an amazing treat to find on a Monday morning! Thank you so much the MCPE, all who donated, our wonderful volunteers, and our amazing custodians.  We are extremely grateful!

This week, Mrs. Flynn's fourth-grade class took math outside. Students took time this week to create and interpret line plots.  These awesome students ended math with a gallery walk to view students' work.

Dale Street Student Council Food Cupboard Drive

When: Now thru Tuesday, May 25th

Where: Drop off in boxes outside the main office.

Requested Items: Men’s and Women's soap, body wash, shampoo, conditioner, body lotion, sunscreen, and bug spray

**Students who bring in items get a raffle ticket and get to place their teacher's name on the back of it.  At the end of the collection, one ticket will be selected from the 4th-grade jar and 5th-grade jar to get an extra recess!

At our monthly meeting last Wednesday, Student Council members came up with the awesome idea to celebrate our First Responders.  We are planning a special treat for them in June and students are encouraged to create thank you cards to thank these brave individuals for their service. If students decide to participate, cards are due in the office by June 1st.

Today was Student Council Spirit Day - Come as your favorite book character or sports team.  Thanks to all the students and staff who participated.  Check out some of these great pictures!

With the warm weather ahead to close out the school year, please send students to school with a refillable water bottle with their name on it so that they can stay hydrated throughout the day. We have a large number of unclaimed reusable water bottles in our lost and found that may belong to your child- please tell them to stop by and look if you are missing one.  Putting your child's name on it will ensure that it is returned if found. Students may refill their bottles using one of our two bottle filler stations. We hope to be outdoors as much as possible for the remainder of the year so students may wish to have a hat and sunscreen moving forward as well.

Today, Grade 5 students in Ms. Condon's class learned more about the history of Lowell and its mills.  On this day. students participated in an assembly line simulation.

On Thursday, Ms. Johnson's class enjoyed a special read-aloud after completing their MCAS sessions.  The students loved hearing Dale Street Reading Specialist, Mrs. Bassett read!

This week, Mrs. Fox's and Ms. Slachta's fourth-grade classes collaborated to create human line plots.  Students had a blast collecting data and presenting their findings.  Well done!

If your child bikes to school, please remind them to use caution when crossing the roads. We have had reports of Dale students not crossing in the crosswalks.  Please help keep everyone safe.

School Resource Officer Manganello visited with our Grade 5 Health classes this week to talk with students about bike safety, seatbelt safety, cellphone safety, and how to be safe on 1/2 days walking uptown.  They even had a surprise visit from Officer Bonadies and his K9 partner, Harry! Thanks, Office Manganello and Officer Bonadies!

Grade 4 classes used tuning folks this week to test out sound waves.  These ROCKSTARS love hands-on activities!

Is your child missing a sweatshirt? A lunch box? A water bottle?  All of the above??

Please ask them the check the overflowing lost & found!  Tables with lost and found items have been placed in the lobby.

Unclaimed items will be donated at the end of the school year.
