November 1, 2019 - Week 10

Dear Dale Street Families,

Thank you to all of our families for making our first 'Party in a Bag' a gigantic success!  The feedback from students, families, and staff was extremely positive.  I also want to thank all of the family volunteers who joined us yesterday to help create a fun and exciting environment.  Your support is greatly appreciated!

We love and have had such great feedback regrading School Dismissal Manager.  However, the office staff is seeing a growing trend over the past few weeks where students (some days maybe 30 students) are coming to the office after the dismissal report is read by their teachers asking to confirm dismissal plans because students feel that they are not accurate.  Although we always love seeing and interacting with our amazing students, I am sure you can understand how very challenging it is to get all the students the information they are seeking, confused about, or confirming in the last 20-30 minutes of the school day.  We ask that you have a conversation with your child(ren) the night before or the morning of school to remind them what you filled out for that day on School Dismissal Manager.  Thank you in advance for you support with this very important process!

Thank you to Aine for this week's book recommendation.  Aine recommended Ghosts by Raina Telgemeier.  This book inspired her to "face my fears because Cat faced her fears to help Maya."  Thanks for sharing, Aine!

Students in Grade 5 were amazed by the various experiments when the Discovery Museum visited this week. Students participated in activities and discussions regarding the various states of matter and changes.  Special thanks to our very generous PTO for funding this wonderful experience.

Yesterday, students in Senora DellaMonica's World Language class participated in a Día de los Muertos breakout activity.  Many attempts were made and few succeeded...ÉXITO (success)!!

On Monday, students in Mrs. Ross' and Mrs. Seaver's class learned a new math strategy....partial products.  This strategy joined the distributive property strategy and the area model strategy that have already been introduced to students.  They loved learning a new way to multiply.

It was a pleasure to meet with parents today at the first Principal's Coffee of the school year.  The topics of discussion were the recently released MCAS data and the upcoming student-led, parent/teacher conferences.  Thank you to all who were able to attend and to the food service staff who provided coffee and snacks.  If you were not able to attend, the Google Slides from the presentation can be found on the Dale Street website.

Today marks the start of Global Giving at Dale Street School. Your child had the opportunity to watch a kick-off video created by students in Ms. Sager's Class. Since 2002, the Dale Street School community has been raising money for Coalition for Courage, an organization created to benefit needy children in Norton, Zimbabwe. Coalition for Courage, also known as C4C was founded by Arden O'Donnell and Liz Berges, who now reside in Medfield. Liz was once a teacher at Dale Street School.

Our fundraising efforts help young Zimbabwean Scholars get a great education!

In the morning, students should be dropped off in the parking lot between Dale St and the Pfaff Center.  A staff member will be outside to greet your child as they get out of the car.  For safety reasons, please do not dropped your child off in the Adam Street circle as the buses are dropping of students.  If you are dropping off your child late, you may drop them off in the Adam Street circle after 8:30. Please make sure they check in at the office when they arrive.  Thank you for your help in making sure everyone stays safe.
