April 5, 2019 - Week 30

Dear Dale Street Families,

I hope that you had a spectacular week - we sure did!  Take a look at some of the awesomeness that students and staff were involved in during this first week of April.

On Monday, Mrs. Scott's Grade 4 classroom went for a walk.  Students participated in a fun way to learn about similes and metaphors using our PTO funded Walking Classrooms.

Our Grade 4 students had a wonderful day at the Museum of Science on Tuesday. The day was spent exploring exhibits and seeing the IMAX movie 'Dream Big: Engineering our World.'  Be sure to ask your 4th grader all about it!

Thanks to Andy in Ms. Condon's class for reading today's book recommendation.  Andy  recommended Dog Man Unleashed, by Dav Pilkey for someone who "loves Graphic Novels."  Andy rated this book 10 out of 10 stars!  Thanks Andy!

Congratulations to our final four teams for Dale Street's Free Throw Shooting contest.  The D Ballers, Dunkin' Donuts, Bertsch Boys and Swishing Sisters were great in the final four.  Congratulation to D Ballers (Karim, Grant and Mr. Douglas) for being this year's March Madness winning team!  Check out Mr. Mason's podcast that highlights today's awesome assembly!

In addition to crowning the free throw champions, the winner of our Tournament of Books was revealed.  This year's book is Rescue & Jessica by Jessica Kensky and Patrick Downes.  Thank you to all who voted.

On Wednesday, Ms. DiPesa's, Mrs. Ross' and Mrs. Scott's classes showcased their knowledge and creativity at their North America fair.  I am so proud of these awesome young learners!

Tuesday will be Red Sox spirit Day at Dale Street!  Please wear your Red Sox attire or red, white, and blue.  If your allegiance is with another team, feel free to come to school with that team's attire.

On Thursday, Dale Street staff participated in Medfield's Design your Learning Day.  It was an incredible day!  I want to send a special shout out to our Library Media Specialist, Mrs. Cowell who was on the DLD design team who organized this great day, Grade 5 teacher, Mrs. Lowerre who was asked to be a keynote speaker at this event, and the numerous Dale Street teachers who volunteered to present at this year's DLD.

A letter was sent out on March 28th offering parents the opportunity to share information about their son/daughter for next year’s placement at Dale Street.  The information that you share will be used to assist me with the student placement process for the 2019 – 2020 school year.  When corresponding about placement, parents are asked to focus on the type of learning environment that best meets the strengths and needs of their child.  Please know that throughout the placement process our focus will be on placing your child in a classroom in which they will grow both academically and socially.  Parent input narratives should be sent in no later than Friday, April 12th.  For other suggestions regarding the parent narrative, please visit Dale Street's homepage and view the March 8th principal's coffee slide show.

A big thank you to Tyler's mom and Charlie who visited Mrs. Lowerre's fifth grade class on Wednesday.  They visited to share a presentation on energy.  Students really enjoyed the hands on experiments!

Here’s an easy way to say "thanks" to Dale's teachers!  Teachers have indicated wished-for classroom supply items on tags hanging from a “tree” (see above) in the front hallway. When you’re in the building for conferences, feel free to grab a tag or two from your child’s teacher or any of the specialist teachers to fulfill some of their wishes!

The Lost and Found is overflowing!  Items have been placed in the front hallway so please check for missing items the next time you are in.  All unclaimed items will be donated on April 12th.

Congratulations to Grade 5 teacher, Mr. Mike Mason who was recently named the 2019 recipient of the Norfolk Teachers Association Honor Award.  Well deserved!

The Medfield Challenge Success Parent Committee is planning two spring events: a Presentation with Jon Kleiman for MHS Parents on Wednesday, April 24th and a District-wide Book Discussion and Student Panel on Thursday, May 16th.
For more information and to RSVP, please read the April Challenge Success Parent Newsletter.
