April 12, 2019 - Week 31

Dear Dale Street Community,

Amazing week here at #beproudbedale!  I would like to commend our Grade 4 students who completed their ELA MCAS testing.  They were awesome!  Their MCAS testing was only one small part of our week.  Check out some of the wonderful scenes leading up to vacation week.....

Best of luck to 4th grade teacher, Margot Hayes who will run the Boston Marathon again on Monday.  We know that she is going to do great!  Please give her a loud cheer if you see her on the marathon route. If you are looking for her or tracking her, Ms. Hayes' bib number is 25431.
This week Ms. Bertschmann's and Ms. Costello's fifth grade students used their creativity when designing 'booths' for "Metric City's Annual Booth Fair."  What a fantastic way to gain a deeper understanding of measurement!

Congratulations to our Positive Referrals!

How cool is this?  This week, Mrs. Lowerre's fifth grade students were involved in a live Skype with the Monterey aquarium.  During this Skype, students actually got to see a diver feeding the fish in kelp forest.  What a great learning experience!

Congratulations to the Dale Street's DI Divas for coming in second in the Instant Challenge and 5th overall at the recent Destination Imagination State competition.  This team included: Keira, Kate, Hannah, Naya, Molly, Sidney, and Paige.  We are very proud of you!

Today, Ms. Carlyle's fifth grade students started their own businesses and sold products by the cup, pint, quart, and gallon.

Congratulations to all of the Dale Street students who had artwork showcased at the Zullo Student-Faculty Art Exhibition on Thursday night.

On Friday, Mrs. Dowd's fourth grade students created blueprints to better understand area and perimeter.  The students then proceeded to build houses making sure their area and perimeter matched their models.

Grade 5 classrooms took a plunge into their Living Systems unit this week.  Wow, the students loved working with their red worm compost habitats.

Congratulations to these #beproudbedale students who are the Division 2 Soccer Champions.  They had an undefeated season.  Way to go!

On Thursday, Mr. Douglas', Mrs. Flynn's, and Mrs. Crable's students entertained family and friends as they presented their North America fair projects.  They were very well prepared and their projects were spectacular!

Thanks to Cara in Ms. DiPesa's class for reading today's book recommendation.  Cara recommended The Pegasus Series, by Kate O'Hearn for someone 'who likes excitement, cliff hangers and is looking for a good book series.'  Cara rated this book a billion stars!  Thanks Cara!

Thanks to our Friday DJs for rockin' our lunch room today!

Check out the PTO update for information about upcoming events.

On Tuesday, students in Señora DellaMonica's fourth grade Wold Language class took time to have conversations about their favorite colors.  ¿Cuál es tu color favorito?

MCPE is accepting nominations for the Robert C. Maguire Award. This award will be given to a Medfield staff member who inspires students to look beyond the town of Medfield and learn more about the global community through innovative programs and technologies. Nominations must be submitted by Saturday April 27th, and the winner will be announced at MCPE's Annual Meeting on May 23rd at 7 pm at Zullo Gallery. To nominate a staff member or to learn more about the Maguire Award, go to https://www.medfieldcoalition.org/robert-maguire-award

Mrs. Ross' fourth grade students created 'gardens' inspired by Monet while practicing area, perimeter, and metric measurement.  Super talented students!
