March 22, 2019 - Week 28

Greetings Dale Street!

What a spectacular week!  #beproudbedale students were involved in so many wonderful activities both inside and outside of the classroom this week.  I am a proud and privileged principal to work every day with the incredible students and staff at the Dale Street School!

Thank you to all the families who were able to join us for our Term II Positive Referral breakfast this morning. The Food Service department provided water, juice, and a variety of delicious treats for everyone to enjoy.  Thank you to them for all of their support.  Lastly, a huge thank you to all of the students who continue to demonstrate outstanding character here at Dale Street.  We are so proud of you for making such great choices each and every day!

On Tuesday, Ms. Bertschmann's fifth grade students participated in a project based learning robot building activity.  Their goal....connecting their volume work with an engineering task.  Great work!

Congratulations to our Positive Referrals!

Thanks to Naya in Mrs. Dowd's class for reading today's book recommendation.  Naya recommended Wish by Barbara O'Connor for "someone who loves book with problems."  Naya rated this book 10 stars!  Thanks Naya!

On Thursday, Mrs. Lowerre's students participated in a hands-on math activity.  Students applied their knowledge of volume to analyze and create shapes with similar cubic measurements.

Parent/teacher conferences continue next week. Conferences are a wonderful time to check in with your child's teacher about their academic and social/emotional growth. Tuesday, March 26th is a half day for student conferences.   Dismissal is at 11:40 a.m. Please be sure to update the School Dismissal Manager with your child's plans for that day.

Grade 5 students in Mrs. DellaMonica's World Language class took time this week writing and presenting their stories on popular past times and foods of Spanish speaking countries.  buen trabajo

The Dale Street School Site Council is requesting your feedback.  The following survey addresses many topics, including technology, homework, communication, curriculum and culture.  The information from this survey will be used when creating Dale Street's next School Improvement Plan.  We truly value your feedback and thank you in advance for your time in completing this brief 2 minute survey.  Please respond by March 29th.

This week, students in Ms. Isaacson's fourth grade class dug into science by demonstrating energy transfer through a longitudinal wave.  What was the prop?  A slinky of course!

Here’s an easy way to say "thanks" to Dale's teachers!  Teachers have indicated wished-for classroom supply items on tags hanging from a “tree” (see above) in the front hallway. When you’re in the building for conferences, feel free to grab a tag or two from your child’s teacher or any of the specialist teachers to fulfill some of their wishes during the month of March!

Congratulations to our Lucky Plate winners!

Last Friday, our 5th graders had a fantastic time at the Kids' Night Out!  The evening was filled with awesome games, great prizes, and fun music.  Special thanks to our fantastic PTO and all of the parent volunteers.
It was a wonderful day for three, amazing Dale Street students.  Colin, Nathan, and Hunter displayed true Olympic spirit at today's Special Olympics at Holliston High School!  Congratulations to these wonderful students.  We are so proud of you!

On Wednesday, fifth grade students in Ms. Condon's class took time to build their artifacts that will accompany their History and Me research. Great work!

The next round of our March Madness Tournament will be held next week. Round 3 scores will be tabulated on Monday morning and students will be notified at lunch. Students and staff who make it to Round 4 (the Elite 8) will need to shoot 10 free throws during one of the following days: Wednesday, 3/27, or Friday, 3/29, between 7:50 a.m. - 8:20 a.m. Please note that all team members do not have to come the same day, but all need to shoot the free throws by Friday, 3/29.

What's a cool way to review decimal notation? Ms. DiPesa's fourth grade students played spoons. Great idea!

The Lost and Found is overflowing!  Items have been placed in the front hallway so please check for missing items the next time you are in.  All unclaimed items will be donated on April 12.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Steve
