April 13, 2018 - Week 31

Dear Dale Street Community,

Students and staff are entering April vacation on all cylinders after another fantastic week.  Take a look...

We had a school-wide assembly this morning.  The assembly combined Dale Street's first Tournament of Books and Dale Street's first Free Throw Contest.  Congratulations to The Crossover for being selected as the champion book and congratulations to The Three Swishers for winning our Foul Shooting contest.  Thank you to all who voted and participated in the free throw contest.

Our fourth grade students completed their ELA MCAS sessions on Wednesday and Thursday.  I am so very proud of the students and staff involved in this week's testing.  Their perseverance and resiliency needs to be commended.  If you child missed either session 1 or 2, make-ups will be completed on an ongoing basis.  The first day of these make-ups will take place on Tuesday, April 24th.  Here are the remaining dates for Dale Street students:

Congratulations to all of the #beproudbedale students: Warren C., Lauren B., Charlie B., Isabella L., Oliver M., Kyle H., Sonya M., Molly G., and Anna L. who had artwork displayed at the Zullo Art Gallery last night.  Their creativity and precision is amazing!

Thanks to Nora in Ms. Burnham's class for reading today's book recommendation. Nora recommended Out of My Mind by Sharon Draper for "people who love to read" and because "it is very interesting to people who like to read realistic fiction."  Nora rated this book 5 out of 5 stars!  Thanks Nora!

What a day for Izzy on Wednesday!  She celebrated her birthday and had a wonderful ride to school!  This was an MCPE raffle she won during this year's treasured experiences.  So cool!
Congratulations to Mrs. Oxholm and the Dale Street Chorus for their terrific performance at this year's Big Sing.  These awesome kids boarded a bus and traveled to Needham to perform.  They sounded great, and even more importantly, were commended for their outstanding behavior and character!  Way to go!

Have you registered your son or daughter's team for the Spelling Bee?  If not, there's still time.  Please visit our website, www.medfieldcoalition.org to sign up today.  For those that are not familiar with the annual MCPE Spelling Bee, this is a fun and (hopefully) low stress team event.  Small groups of pals spell words as a team and there is a winning team from Wheelock and from Dale St. This is a beloved annual event and one your kids will remember for many years.

On Tuesday, staff (and students) made their way to the high school to participate in Medfield's Digital Learning Day.  It was an awesome day!  George Couros, author of Innovator's Mindset provided the keynote.  This is a book that all Medfield educators read earlier this year.  Mr. Couros' thought-provoking words pushed our thinking and challenged us to tear down any barriers that block innovation.  Here are some highlights from the day.

¿Qué ropa llevas tú? In Mrs. LeVangie's World Language class this week, students worked with Spanish clothing & colors.  Great collaboration!

Best of luck to 4th grade teacher, Margot Hayes who will run the Boston Marathon again on Monday.  She has trained extremely hard and I know that she is going to do great!  Please give her a loud cheer if you see her someone on the marathon route.

Check out the PTO update with information about these upcoming events and MORE!

UPCOMING EVENTS: Snowman Supply Fundraiser(Right Now!), 5th graders~Yearbook personal pages done by May 1st!

Thank you to all who took the time to submit a placement letter.  We will begin working on creating classes/groupings at our PD day on May 11th.

Best wishes to Grade 4 teacher, Shannon MacDonald as she celebrates her wedding day tomorrow.  Wishing you both a lifetime of love and happiness!

Best wishes for a safe and enjoyable April vacation.  Enjoy the time away!
