March 10, 2017 - Week 26

Hello Dale Street Families!

Thanks for checking in this week. Please enjoy some of the great things that happened at #beproudbedale this week!
The Dale Street School Site Council has developed a survey and is requesting your feedback.  The information from this survey will be used when creating Dale Street's next School Improvement Plan.  The survey will be sent out early next week.  Thank you in advance for your time.

Last Friday our 4th graders had a fantastic time at the Kids' Night Out!  The Luau themed night was filled with awesome games, slushies, and great music.  Special thanks to Michelle Barrette and all of the parent volunteers.

Special thanks to Hannah and Ella from Mrs. Flynn's class for helping out at Digital Learning Day this week.  The adults couldn't stop commenting about these awesome ladies!  Way to go!

Congratulations to Carl in Mr. Douglas' class who has qualified to compete in the state level competition of the National Geographic Bee!  Way to go, Carl!  Good luck!

Fifth grade students welcomed Safety Patrol Officer Chelle Manganello to their health classes this week.  Officer Manganello is teaching a three week safety unit this month. Lessons include, personal safety, helmet and seat belt safety.  Students will learn about police training and what a police officer’s job looks like in the town of Medfield.

Physical Education classes have begun an “Educational Gymnastics Unit.”  This unit encourages the students to move their bodies at different levels, shapes with a variety of locomotor movements. The fourth grade classes will put together a short routine at the end of the unit, including: a step like motion, balance, flight and a roll.

It was a pleasure to meet with parents during Term II's Principal's Coffee this morning. The topic of discussion was the placement process and the use of technology here at Dale Street. Thank you to all who were able to attend, Mrs. Cowell, and to the food service staff who provided coffee and snacks. If you were unable to attend, the PowerPoint can be found on the Dale Street website. The next Principal's Coffee will be held on May 19th. I hope to see you there.

Special thanks to Victoria in Mrs. Condon's class for reading our book recommendation today.  Victoria recommended The War that Saved My Life.  She gave this book 6 Stars because it is a book that in some places is scary, happy, suspenseful, and sad.  Well done, Victoria!
The Medfield Patch had a wonderful article about Dale Street's Dr. Seuss Day.  If you did not get to see it, I have included it here.
This week students in Ms. MacDonald's fourth grade class used the story The Three Little Pigs to  learn more about point of view.  Awesome job, young learners!
Many thanks to our generous PTO and Park Street Books for supporting our library!  We are so grateful for our new books!

In the two weeks back from February break, the young learners in Ms. Bertschmann's class conducted multiple FOSS science experiments.  Activities included exploring solar energy, radiation, and convection!  Looks awesome!

Thank you to Kat and her family for supporting the MCPE auction!  Today, Kat and some of her friends came to the office to have a lunch of  Kat's choice.  Special thanks to Mrs. Barrett, Mrs. Infantino, and Mrs. Thompson for their support!

Congratulations to these Dale Street students for being named finalists in the GetREAL Food Campaign poster contest.  The GetREAL program encourages kids to make healthier food choices through fun and thought-provoking activities.  Special thanks to Mrs. Carey for overseeing this contest and congratulations to Jack C. for being named the District Winner!

As always, thank you for reading.  Have a fantastic weekend!

Sincerely,
Steve
