February 12, 2016 - Week 23

Greetings Dale Street Families and Happy Valentine's Day!

As a reminder, there will be no school for students on Monday, February 15th through Sunday, February 21st. Students will return to school on Monday, February 22nd.

Ms. Walunas' class spent time this week exploring benchmark fractions.

As you are hopefully aware, all Dale Street School students will be attending a performance of Mary Poppins at the Wheelock Family Theatre on Wednesday, Feb 24th.  Field trip buses will depart promptly at 8:40 AM.  Please help us by ensuring all students are at school by 8:35 AM.  Thank you in advance for your support!

Congratulations to Ella from Ms. Bertschmann's class who served as our school DJ on Wednesday.  Ella won this MCPE auction item earlier this year.  Ella, you rock!

"Most Likely to Succeed” - On March 29th, from 6:30-9:00 PM, join us for a screening of this nationally viewed documentary about High Tech High, a progressive school in San Diego, CA. Following the movie, Medfield educators will facilitate small group discussions about the topics raised and our children’s education.

Eleventh Annual Spelling Bee - mark your calendars! This much loved, low-key, low-stress spelling event will take place on Tuesday, April 5th in the MHS auditorium. It is open to students in grades 2-5. Registration will open after February break.

Ms. Bertschmann's class just updated their hallway bulletin board!  Students made advertisements to promote healthy living based on facts from their Time For Kids magazine!  Well done!

Thank you to all who participated in today's Spirit Day.  We are in the process of collecting and delivering all the items for the Medfield Animal Shelter.  A special thank you to all who participated, members of the Dale Street Student Advisory Council for their help preparing the donations for delivery, and Mrs. Vancura for volunteering to drop off all donations.

Thank you to Preet from Ms. Walunas' class for sharing his latest invention with me this week!  #Talented

Dale Street Staff spent time at Tuesday's Faculty Meeting learning more about standards-based grading and formative assessments.  Special thanks to math specialist, Alison Wells for facilitating this meeting!

This morning Ms. Sager's classroom became a Valentine Factory. Each student received $10 school bucks to use to shop for items to make valentines.  Students tallied their shopping list and purchased items from the Valentine Factory store.  It was great to see the students interacting in their roles as customer, employee, and creator.

I hope that you and your family enjoy the vacation time next week.  Looking forward to seeing everyone on the 22nd!

Sincerely,
Steve
