May 2, 2025 - Week 32

Hello Dale Street Community!

Wow, what an incredible week! Please take a minute to scroll through this week's blog to see the awesome things our rockstar students and staff were involved in and stay up to date with upcoming events.

Congratulations to this week's Positive Referrals!

Next Friday (May 9th) is the Special Olympics. Medfield HS is hosting the event this year, and Dale Street will have four student athletes participating. Events are anticipated to begin at approximately 9:15 AM (this is a little earlier than previously communicated) and will conclude between 11:15/11:30 AM. If you and your child are interested in attending to support our athletes, transportation must be provided by the parent/guardian. If your child attends, the morning absence will be considered excused. Your student will be expected to return to school by 12:00 p.m. If you choose to keep your student out of school for the afternoon, the remainder of the day will be considered unexcused.

On Tuesday, students and staff had a fantastic visit from author Rob Buyea. ๐Ÿ“šStudents and staff were inspired by his stories & insights. Huge thanks ๐Ÿ™ to our amazing Dale Street PTO for making this wonderful opportunity possible!

FLOWER POWER DAY (PreK-5 Spirit Day)

In an effort to promote random acts of kindness, Dale Street will join Wheelock and Memorial and have Flower Power Spirit Day. On Thursday, May 15, 2025, all students are asked to bring in a flower of their choice. This can be a flower from a garden or a store-bought flower. Each classroom will be filling vases with the flowers brought in to create a beautiful bouquet and talking about random acts of kindness. We will then distribute the flowers to members of our Dale Street Community. Students and staff are encouraged to wear floral prints and/or bright colors. Participation is optional. Thank you for supporting this “kind” event!

This week, students loved meeting with Nova at recess! ๐Ÿพ Thank you to Sergeant Hain and the Medfield Police Department for helping build community connections.

The remaining Spring 2025 MCAS testing dates are as follows: STE (Grade 5 only): May 6 and May 8
Math: May 16 and May 20

On Wednesday, students in Ms. Burnham's 5th-grade class shared their beautifully crafted poetry with families. Their creativity and voice were awesome!

We invite Dale students to join us for the National Bike or Walk to School program on Wednesday, May 7th (Rain Date, May 9th).  Students who would like to participate will meet at the Hinkley Park lot at 7:30AM to participate in a safe, police-supervised bike/walk parade to Dale Street School that morning.  Use QR code on the flier to register your child. Fun volunteer opportunities--Please sign up to help us out.

This week, members of the Fancy Book Club intramural with Mrs. Knott had a video chat with the author of the Vanderbeekers, Karina Yan Glaser. The students were thrilled (and two authors in one day was amazing for them).

Field day times for the 2024-2025 school year have been determined. Please see the schedule below for June 4th (rain date June 5th). Activities will be held outside on the field between Dale and Memorial, with additional details being shared closer to the event. We hope you can join us!

Grade 4 - 9:00 a.m. - 11:15 a.m.
Grade 5 - 12:15 p.m. - 2:30 p.m.

Hard work and great thinking were happening in Mrs. Flynn’s class during math centers today! ๐ŸŽฏ๐Ÿ’ฌ Fantastic student discussions and strong learning all around — way to go! ๐Ÿ‘

Please save the date of Wednesday, June 11th, at 9:30 a.m. for Dale Street's Grade 5 Celebration.  This year, the Grade 5 Celebration will take place on the basketball court outdoors, and we are hoping for dry and nice weather. Grade 5 families are welcome, and we are asking that all guests bring a lawn chair for seating in an area off the pavement. If there is inclement weather on this day, the celebration will be held in the gymnasium. If this is the case, we will only be able to welcome 2 guests per family for the celebration.

A Moment in Music

This week in 4th and 5th-grade flute lessons, students focused on sustaining a steady, clear sound across longer notes and phrases. By practicing breath control and embouchure stability, they are learning how to produce a consistent tone that carries through each measure. These exercises help young flutists develop endurance and control, both critical for expressive playing. Students also practiced listening across the group to match tone quality, intonation, and volume, building ensemble awareness along the way. Check out this video from a grade 5 flute class to hear them working on these skills!

SAVE THE DATE:
The annual Kids’ Night Out Carnival is next Friday (5/9).

๐Ÿ’™MCPE’s Blue Ribbon Recognition Program for Teacher Appreciation Week

The Blue Ribbon Recognition is a great way to honor a member of your child’s school community! It honors teachers and school staff for making a difference in a student’s life. It’s an easy and thoughtful way to recognize the efforts of a member of our school community by making a donation to MCPE in their honor.

All 2025 Blue Ribbon recipients will be notified of donations made in their honor, given a card and note(s) from students and their families, and recognized at the MCPE Annual Meeting on May 20th, in MCPE's 2024-25 Annual Report, and on social media.

Submit nominations here! https://givebutter.com/2025-blue-ribbon

Medfield Coalition for Suicide Prevention Hosts “Path for Hope” on Medfield Rail Trail for Mental Health Awareness Month

This Mental Health Awareness Month, the Medfield Coalition for Suicide Prevention (MCSP) invites the community to join Path for Hope on Sunday, May 4th, at 11:30 AM on the Medfield Rail Trail. This event is an important opportunity to build community, foster healing, and promote emotional resilience, an essential protective factor in reducing the risk of suicide.

The end of the school year can be very busy with a lot of fun and exciting events. We have created this calendar that will hopefully help families keep track of all the wonderful things happening at #beproudbedale over the final 6 weeks of school.
