May 30, 2025 - Week 36

Greetings Dale Street!

We hope this message finds you well. It has been an incredible week here at Dale Street, filled with various exciting activities that engaged our students both within and beyond our school walls. Our students' and staff's enthusiasm and dedication continue to impress us as we approach the end of the school year. Please take a few moments to view some of the highlights from this past week. Seeing our students thriving and participating in such enriching experiences has been wonderful. Also, please see below for key dates and times as we prepare to close out the school year.

On Thursday, the Medfield High School Class of 2025 participated in a Senior Walk around Dale Street.  It was so great to have #beproudbedale alumni walking the halls.  On behalf of the students and staff at Dale Street, best of luck in all of your future endeavors.

Congratulations to these 7 Dale Street Rockstars. These students completed all the Dale Street Math Challenges offered this year - a fantastic accomplishment! Special thanks to Dale Street Math Specialist, Mrs. Perachi, for overseeing the program.

Thank you to Leo, who did an amazing job as Principal for the Day today!

This week, Mrs. Chamblin's class played PDQ (a great word game!) at Library.

A Moment in Music

This week, our 4th and 5th grade band students gave fantastic performances at their spring concerts, showing just how much they’ve grown this year as young musicians. From confident soloists to full ensemble pieces, the groups played with strong tone, rhythm, and teamwork. Students have worked hard on skills like specific instrument technique, articulation, and ensemble listening, and it all came together beautifully on stage. We’re so proud of their progress and the joy they brought to each performance—what a great way to end the year!

Today, Grade 5 students came together to meet Blake Middle School Assistant Principal, Mrs. Campbell. Students heard important and fun information about the Middle School. Unfortunately, Mr. Vaughn was not feeling well and could not attend.

We celebrated a Positive Referral breakfast yesterday. Thank you to all of the families who attended, and special thanks to our cafeteria staff for providing the delicious refreshments. Congratulations to all of the Positive Referrals who attended the breakfast, and congratulations to all who earned a Positive Referral this year!

Thank you to our Friday DJ's who rocked the lunchroom today!

As this year comes to a close, we want to remind you that reading and writing don’t have to!  We encourage your family to create a summer schedule that allows for reading and writing to be part of your daily routine.  Please visit our Summer Literacy Website, where you can find a plethora of curated resources to support you and your family of readers all summer long!

Congratulations to this week's Positive Referral!

Thank you to our 24/25 PTO board members, Nicole Saulnier, Jill Warner, Nicole Crocker, Erin Keysor, and Kelly Behbehani, for all of their hard work this year. We are so incredibly grateful for all that you have done to support our students and staff. We would also like to thank the many volunteers who have supported fundraisers, programs, and classrooms throughout the year.

Although summer is an essential time for students to relax and unwind, it is also a fantastic time for them to process and apply what they have learned so they can make mathematical connections. Check out our new elementary math website, where you can find resources and information to support your mathematician all summer long!

This week, the Grade 4 and Grade 5 Chorus, Band, and Orchestra held their Spring Concerts. It is amazing how much they have grown this year! I am so proud of them!

School Supply Kits for Dale Street Elementary students are now available for purchase. Click the link below and choose the grade your child will be entering for the 2025-26 school year. These school supply kits will be delivered to your child's 4th or 5th-grade classroom for the start of school. A portion of the proceeds goes back to our elementary school PTOs. https://1stdayschoolsupplies.com/gs/48607

Please save the date of Wednesday, June 11th, at 9:30 a.m. for Dale Street's Grade 5 Celebration. This year, the Grade 5 Celebration will take place on the basketball court outdoors, and we are hoping for dry and nice weather. Grade 5 families are welcome, and we are asking that all guests bring a lawn chair for seating in an area off the pavement. If there is inclement weather on this day, the celebration will be held in the gymnasium. If this is the case, we will only be able to welcome 2 guests per family for the celebration.

Celebration Invite

Dale Street Field Day is scheduled for Wednesday, June 4th (Rain Day, Thursday, June 5th). Mrs. Nawrocki and Mrs. Laughna are planning an exciting day of activities for our 4th and 5th graders. Grade 4 will participate in Field Day during the morning (9:00 - 11:15) and Grade 5 will participate in the afternoon (12:15 - 2:30). Field Day will take place on the field between the Dale Street and Memorial Schools. Classes will have the opportunity to rotate through nine stations. Classes will rotate with their classroom. Activities will take place on the field, on the blacktop, and in the gymnasium.

We have found it to be helpful to

**have students wear comfortable clothes and sneakers on this day

**apply sunscreen before coming to school.  Please provide more sunscreen for re-application.

**send children with a hat and extra water on this day.

Classes will be eating bagged lunches. Students may bring their own bagged lunch or purchase a bagged lunch from the cafeteria. Note: There will be no other lunch options on this day.

Transition Day for current Grade 4 & Grade 5 students will be held on Thursday, June 12th. Grade 5 students will ride the bus over to Blake Middle School in the morning, where they meet their cluster teachers and learn a little more about next year before returning to Dale Street for the remainder of the school day. Grade 4 students will visit their new fifth-grade teacher and classmates and learn a little about why Grade 5 is so great before returning to their Grade 4 classrooms for the remainder of their day. A welcome email from your child’s new teacher will be shared with families on Thursday afternoon.

Please make sure all Dale Street Library books are returned to school ASAP.  Thank you for your cooperation in making sure our library is ready for next year's students.

May 23, 2025 - Week 35

Hello Dale Street!

We had a wonderful week at #BeProudBeDale with a lot of learning and activities taking place! Big shout out to the students and staff as we completed all sessions of MCAS testing. I am so proud of our Rockstaf students! Please take a few minutes to look through a recap of the week and make sure to stay updated on our upcoming events.

This morning, Dale Street held a wonderful Memorial Day assembly. The students did a remarkable job. The Pledge of Allegiance was great (thanks, Logan), and the Dale Street Chamber Orchestra played spectacularly!  Grade 5 students Thomas and Rohan recited the Gettysburg Address, Katy, Ben, Will, Max, and Mrs. Tumbleson played America the Beautiful, and Will and Mason played Taps on the trumpet. It was a great morning!

This week, fourth-grade Spanish students in Sra. Spittel’s class volunteered to catch the stuffy (un perrito—a little dog) and answered the daily question, ¿Qué tiempo hace? (What’s the weather?). ¡Llueve mucho! ☔️☔️☔️

Yesterday, some of our Grade 5 classes took a field trip to Lowell Mills. The other Grade 5 classes will attend on Wednesday, 5/28. During their trip, students had opportunities to learn about weaving on a loom, the steps of engineering, child labor laws, how assembly lines work, and the importance of water in helping make the machines run.  They also enjoyed a trolley ride, experiments, an engineering challenge, and separating the seeds from the cotton plant. Check out some of the photos...

Congratulations to this week's Positive Referrals!

Congratulations to Grade 4 teacher, Nicole Gutierrez! Nicole was the recipient of this year's MCPE Robert C. Maguire Global Perspectives in Education Award. We are proud of her and lucky to have her at Dale Street!

May 16, 2025 - Week 34

Hello Dale Street Community!

It was a busy, productive, and fantastic week here at #beproudbedale!  Please take a minute to scroll through to get a snapshot of the week, and be sure to check in about some of our upcoming events.

Monday was a wonderful day for four amazing Dale Street students. These students displayed true Olympic spirit at the Special Olympics at Medfield High School!  Congratulations to these wonderful students. We are so proud of you!

Students should not arrive at school (by walking, biking, or drop-off) before 8:10 a.m., as there is no supervision available before that time. Thank you in advance for your cooperation and support in keeping everyone safe!

I had a great time visiting Mrs. Ross' and Mrs. Seaver’s 5th-grade class on Thursday! Students were engaged, having fun, and learning as they worked through Math Workshop activities. 📚

Congratulations to this week's Positive Referrals!

Invitations were sent home this week to students who have received a positive referral during the second half of the year. If your child did not receive an invitation but you believe they should have, please reach out to Mrs. Malmquist in the main office.

On Tuesday night, Dale Street opened its doors to incoming Grade 4 families.  This is always a special and exciting night. What made the night even more special was having current Dale Street Rockstars in attendance to share their experiences with incoming families. Families loved the first-hand accounts of their experiences.  Thank you to all the students who came to help out and to the Dale Street staff who stayed late into the night to help out.

I want to take a moment to express my thanks to this year's Dale Street Site Council members (Lynne Nicholas, Kristin Martin, Darcie Robertson, Elizabeth Kelley, Tom Ramlow, Lydia Clevenger, Sara Isaacson, Kelsey McKenzie, and Kristen LeVangie) for their dedication and hard work this year. Their efforts have truly made a difference at Dale Street. Thank you for your time, energy, and commitment to making our school a better place for everyone.

A Moment in Music

The grade 4 general music students are working on a project that was inspired by the movie, Close Encounters of the Third Kind.  In one of the scenes, the humans have a conversation with the aliens.  The aliens speak in musical tones.  Song Maker is one of the applications in Chrome Music Lab.  Each block in every row of Song Maker represents a tone in the music scale from low do to high do.  In fact, each row is almost two complete octaves.  In this project, the students were asked to use Song Maker and create a conversation between themselves and an alien race.  The conversations are not yet complete, but watch the video and see examples of their work in progress.

Check this out!

This is a reminder that the last day for book checkout is Friday, May 23rd.  All books should be returned to the library by Friday, May 30th.  Thank you for all of your support this school year. We have had a great year and students have loved checking out books and sharing their book recommendations throughout the year. Please be on the lookout for missing/late book notices in your student's backpacks the last week of May. We appreciate your support as we work to get all our books back before the end of the school year.

Thursday's Flower Power Day was a huge success! Thank you to all who contributed! As a result of your kindness, 18 arrangements were sent to Medfield High as a random act of kindness.

Dale Street held an Art Show reception on Wednesday night. There were a lot of fantastic student pieces on display. Special thanks to Dale Street Art Teacher, Mrs. Delaney for organizing a great evening!

Dale Street students will be honoring our veterans and those currently serving our country through music and remarks on Friday, May 23rd. The program will be held outside (weather permitting) on the Dale Street side of the building. The program will begin at 9:30 a.m. and is expected to last approximately 30 minutes.  Upon completion of the program, students will return with their teachers to their classrooms.
