March 1, 2024 - Week 26

Hello Dale Street Families,

I hope that you all had a wonderful February break from school and maybe even work. We had an awesome first week back at #beproudbedale. Please take a few minutes to scroll through to see some of the highlights and keep updated about important upcoming events and dates.

On Tuesday, we unveiled our new PTO-funded book vending machine.  As you may imagine, it was met with excitement and anticipation from students and staff. As the ribbon was cut and the wrapping torn off, cheers erupted. Huge thanks to our supportive PTO for promoting literacy in such a fun and innovative way. Check out this short video that captured this moment.

Today, students in Ms. Issacson's fourth-grade class discussed how and where volcanoes develop during their ELA block. Students enjoyed exploring the fascinating world of volcanoes and their transformative impact on our planet's surface.

Congratulations to this week's Positive Referrals!

2024 TESTING SCHEDULE

Dale Street's testing schedule is set for the spring.  As always it is most important that students attend school on the days of testing, so please plan appointments in a way that does not interfere with your child being in school on the following testing dates:

ELA Testing

Grade 4 April 9th and April 11th

Grade 5 April 5th and April 10th

Math

Grade 4 May 7th and May 9th

Grade 5 May 8th and May 10th

STE Testing

Grade 5 May 14th and May 17th

This week in Technology with Mr. Ahern, Grade 5 students showcased their coding skills as they navigated our MCPE-funded Sphero robots. It is so cool when hands-on learning meets technology!

All Dale Street families are invited to participate in teacher conferences on Thursday, March 7th and Friday, March 8th from 12:15 - 3:30 p.m.  Here is the letter that was sent out to families before the February break. These are early release days and students will be dismissed at 11:40 a.m.  Please be sure to update School Dismissal Manager to reflect your child's dismissal plans on these days.

March Madness started this week and continues next week for those players/teams that have not yet taken their first-round shots.  Teams advancing to Round 2 will be notified as soon as Round 1 is completed (top 32 scores).

First-round shots (5 per player) must be taken between 7:50 am-8:25 a.m. in the gym on Tuesday, March 5th for Grade 5 and Friday, March 8th for Grade 4. These dates are only for students/teams who have not shot their first-round shots yet. As a reminder, here are the rules:
  • Each team takes 15 free throws (round 1) and 30 free throws all of the following rounds
  • All team members do not need to be present to shoot free throws
  • The teams with the most free throws made (out of 15 for round 1 and 30 for the following rounds) will move on to the next round
  • Anyone wearing Medfield apparel will get 1 bonus shot per article of clothing (max 2 items).  No sharing clothing. No drawings or stickers.

Registration is NOW OPEN for the 2024 MCPE Spelling Bee!

DATE: Monday, March 18th, 2024
TIMES: 4-7:30pm (Dale teams go first; Wheelock teams arrive by 5)
LOCATION: Medfield H.S. Auditorium
COST: $20 per student
Concessions will be available for purchase

All event proceeds go to benefit Medfield Public Schools!

The MCPE Spelling Bee for Wheelock and Dale students is a low-stress team approach to a spelling bee. When the moderator reads a word, team members practice T-E-A-M-W-O-R-K to confer and write the correct spelling on a piece of paper. There is no spelling out loud in front of the crowd!

There are several rounds for each age group, and winning teams will be crowned for grades 2-3 and grades 4-5. Kids can sign up as a team of 2-4 students or as a solo speller. And of course, costumes are encouraged!
