June 9, 2023 - Week 37

Hello Dale Street Community,

What a fantastic week here at #beproudbedale!  So many incredible things happened.  It is amazing to think there are only 3 and a half days remaining in the '22-'23 school year.  Time certainly flies when you are having fun!

(Will be updated with new information when necessary)

On Monday students and staff were treated to shaved ice.  Huge thank you to our amazing PTO for funding this great opportunity!

On Tuesday, the rain took a break just long enough for the students to participate in an exciting Field Day.  Mrs. Nawrocki and Ms. Laughna worked hard to organize a successful day, leaving students with great memories.  This fantastic event served as a reminder of the importance of play, teamwork, and the sheer joy of being a part of the vibrant and supportive Dale Street community.

Transition Day for current Grade 4 & Grade 5 students will be held on Wednesday, June 14th. Grade 5 students will ride the bus over to Blake Middle School in the morning where they meet their cluster teachers and learn a little more about next year before returning to Dale Street for the remainder of the school day.  Grade 4 students will visit their new fifth-grade teacher and classmates and learn a little about why Grade 5 is so great before returning to their Grade 4 classrooms for the remainder of their day. Welcome emails from your child’s new teacher and a Flip Grid video invitation will be shared with families on Wednesday afternoon.

Congratulations to our Dale Street musicians on their very successful concerts last week. Their hard work all year long certainly paid off!  Special thanks to all of our talented and dedicated music teachers!

Please save the date of Tuesday, June 13th at 9:30 a.m. for Dale Street's Grade 5 Celebration.  This year, the Grade 5 Celebration will take place on the basketball court outdoors and we are hoping for dry and nice weather.  Grade 5 families are welcome and we are asking that all guests bring a lawn chair for seating in an area off the pavement.  If there is inclement weather on this day, the celebration will be held in the gymnasium.  If this is the case, we will only be able to welcome 2 guests per family for the celebration.

Celebration Invitation

Alex in Ms. Sager's fifth-grade class recently participated in a National Geography Bee hosted by International Academic Competitions. He was invited to the National Competition after his performance in the Greater Boston Regional competition held earlier this spring.  Alex competed in 4 preliminary rounds before qualifying for the quarterfinals.  He ended up fourth in his group, missing advancement to the semifinals by just one spot. Overall, Alex placed 19 out of 134 participants - Incredible! All of us at Dale Street are so proud of him!

On Monday, Grade 5 students came together to meet Blake Middle School Principal, Mr. Vaughn, and Assistant Principal, Mrs. Campbell.  Students heard important and fun information about the Middle School.

Check out Tuesday's Grade 5 Egg Drop! Students played the role of design engineers to create contraptions that would safely hold an egg.  We have very talented students with such creative ideas!

Special thanks to Lucas in Mrs.  Gutierrez's fourth-grade class who served as 'Principal for the Day' on Monday.  He was super helpful and ran the school awesomely!

Dale Street Summer Read

As part of their summer fun, we encourage our students to find time to read. All students were given a summer reading sheet with many ideas on how to make their summer reading enjoyable and unique.  Students are encouraged to read as many books as they can, pick a variety of books that interest them, and if they would like to share their reading choices using this Dale Street Padlet Wall.  Students may use SORA for digital and audiobooks and the Medfield Public Library to check out hard-copy books.  The summer reading sheet can be found on the Dale Street Library website as well as connecting students to the Padlet Wall.  Feel free to use this link.

Thank you to our 22/23 PTO board members Jessy Nejm, Nesse McCabe, Kristen Storer, Nicola Tessier, Kelly Scobbo, and Nicole Saulnier for all of their hard work this year. We are so incredibly grateful for all that you have done to support our students and staff. We would also like to thank the many volunteers who have supported fundraisers, programs, and classrooms throughout the year.

This week the K-8 PTO provided lunch for our staff. Thank you!

We would also like to thank our 22/23 parent and community Site Council members (Emily Hutton, Nia Jacobs, Dan Medeiros, Jason Uzzell, Tom Ramlow, Sonali Pandya, Shannon MacDonnell, Mairi Nawrocki, and Amanda Johnson) for all of their work and contributions throughout the year.

We would also like to thank all of our chaperones who assisted with the Grade 4 and 5 field trips this year. We couldn’t do it without you!

On Friday, Dale Street students got to actively engage in the democratic process.  They cast their votes for the unnamed park by the library. Empowering our students to make a difference is what it's all about!  Special thanks to Mr. Fink (Rosie's dad) for bringing this initiative to Dale.

On Thursday, former Dale Street alumni and current Grade 6 Blake Middle School students visited Dale Street to share valuable insight on students' upcoming transition. Our guests were phenomenal - thanks for sharing important information!

Report Cards will be available for viewing on the Aspen Parent Portal on Thursday, June 15th at
11:30 AM.

On Tuesday, I had the opportunity to have a closeout meeting with this year's Dale Street Student Council and thank them for all of their efforts this year.  We are so proud of these leaders and know that they will continue to do great things!
