January 16, 2020 - Week 15

Good morning Dale Street Families!

I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character. ~Martin Luther King, Jr.

I hope that you all had a fantastic week.  I wanted to share one of my favorite quotes from Martin Luther King, Jr.  I find so much power in these words.  Please take a look at the photos below of just a few snapshots of learning at #beproudbedale.

On Tuesday, we are excited to build more connections with our Dale Street Rockstars by implementing synchronous learning in the classrooms.  If you did not have a chance to see it, please see this letter that was sent out to families last evening.

In grade 4 this week, students acted as scientists.  Their job....to learn more about electrical currents and the flow of energy.  These are super scientists!  Not only did they complete the tasks asked of them - they also formulated their ideas and explained their thinking.  Great job!

Congratulations to Joe on receiving a positive referral for his hard work in class and tackling challenges with a positive attitude.  Way to go! #ContinousGrowth

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health is removing the requirement for flu vaccination for attendance in childcare/preschool, primary, secondary and postsecondary education.  Preliminary data show that this has been a mild flu season to date, presumably as people have received their seasonal flu vaccine and have been adhering to mask-wearing and social distancing due to COVID-19.   Given the intensive Commonwealth-wide efforts regarding COVID-19 vaccination, DPH wants to alleviate the burden to obtain flu vaccination and focus on continuing our COVID -19 vaccination efforts.

DPH continues to strongly recommend that everyone age six months and older receive their seasonal flu vaccine each year.

If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Thompson at kthompson@email.medfield.net

Our next Student Council meeting will be Wednesday, 1/20, at 2:45 p.m.  Representatives and alternates will be emailed meeting details directly.

Our Student Council initiative to support local restaurants during the pandemic continues!  Each week, 2 restaurants will be sponsored by the Dale Street Student Council and their classmates.  Be sure to help our local restaurants!  Our sponsored restaurants next week are The Village Griddle (Ms. MacDonnell's class) and Sethji's Indian Vegetarian Meals-to-Go (Mrs. Nee's class).

Breakfast or lunch?  Coffee or shakes?  Pancakes, pancakes, and more pancakes are always a crowd favorite especially with chocolate chips as a special treat!  Whatever your favorite, the Griddle Café has it all!  Give them a call and take cooking off your to-do list during remote school or work from home!   They are open for takeout and curbside pickup and they have made it so easy to order online or via the phone.

This delicious gem is open daily 7am-2pm and Sundays 7am-1pm and is located at 14 North Meadows Road.  Order online:  http://www.thegriddlemedfield.com/ or call:  508-906-6400.

Are you tired of planning healthy dinners? Fear no more, Sethji's Vegetarian Meals to go, has you covered. They have weekly menus you can order for the whole family! Pick up between 4 and 7pm on Wednesday through Friday. If you do their meal subscription plans, then you pick your preferred day to pick up each week. If you sign up for the meal subscription plan before 1/31 instead of 6 weeks you get 7 weeks! Head on down to Sethji's today!

On Tuesday, students in Mrs. Flynn's fourth-grade class took a deeper dive interpreting remainders.  They had a visit from Dale Street Math Specialist, Mrs. Perachi and teamed up to play the game Connect Four to have some fun learning this skill.

The Dale Street Math Challenge is back!

Students can free to solve as many problems as they can and will have about a week to turn in their work. Students can hand in a hard copy of the challenge to the office or email it to Mrs. Perachi (bperachi@email.medfield.net) prior to the due date. We hope that all students and families find these problems to be a challenging and fun activity.

More information, including a calendar of important dates and a link to download and print the challenges and solutions, is available here. Questions regarding the math challenge program can be directed to Dale Street math specialist, Mrs. Perachi.

The next challenge is due by Thursday, January 21st.
