November 13 - Week 9

 Dear #beproudbedale Families,

I continue to be so proud of our students and staff and am so impressed with their hard work and positivity during this challenging time.  Here is a peek at our week - enjoy!

On Monday, Cohort A and D celebrated Patriots Spirit Day.  I think it helped :-) Check out some of these pictures.

Please make note of the following important change to the schedules for Cohort A & B prior to the Thanksgiving break.

On Tuesday, November 24th, students in Cohort B will attend school in-person while students in Cohort A will work remotely.  This change results from discussions concerning the length of time between in-person learning days for Cohort B due to the Thanksgiving recess.  Making this switch allows both of our cohorts to receive in-person instruction during the week of November 23rd.

Please note that virtual notebooks will be adjusted to reflect this change for both cohorts and that teachers will conduct a morning check-in with Cohort A on Tuesday, November 24th.

We appreciate your flexibility and understanding with this adjustment.

The Dale Street Student Council will meet on Wednesday, Nov 18, at 12 p.m.  Zoom details will be emailed directly to the Student Council representatives and alternates.

Our Student Council initiative to support local restaurants during the pandemic begins next week.  Each week, 2 restaurants will be sponsored by the Dale Street Student Council and their classmates.  Be sure to help our local restaurants!  This week's sponsored restaurants: Avenue and Juice on Main

Visit Juice on Main in Medfield center for the most super-nutritious organic juices, smoothies, and snacks. Looking for a healthy breakfast, a boost before a practice, or a delicious treat after school? Then head over to Juice on Main. It is open Mon-Sat 9am-4pm and Sun 11am-3pm. For holiday gifts, gift cards are available both online and in-store.

Avenue is a restaurant that has an open kitchen and wood-burning oven and grill. The menu changes with the season and offers native seafood, wood-roasted chicken, grilled steak and burgers, classic wood-fired flatbreads, mouth-watering salads, and pastas - as well as delicious desserts.

Avenue is open Monday- Saturday 4:30 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. by reservation only.

Curbside pickup and takeout Monday - Saturday 4:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.

Avenue's seasonal specials range from:

Maine rock shrimp chowder with local corn and cherry-wood bacon

Apple cider-braised pork shank with mashed potatoes, roasted root vegetables, and pomegranate pistachio relish

Prime wood grill ribeye with truffle fries, onion jam, and Avenue steak sauce.

This week in Mrs. Ross' and Mrs. Seaver's fifth-grade class, students watched a video called  “Motions of the Sun and Moon” from the California Academy of Sciences.  Their objective was to think like an astronomer to explore the Sun, Moon, planets, and objects in and beyond our solar system.  So cool!

Students may bring lunch from home or purchase a meal from the cafeteria. Lunch is prepared by our cafeteria staff and is delivered to the classrooms.  Meals prepared in the cafeteria will be free to all students for the 2020-2021 school year.  Families will still need to complete the free & reduced lunch application

Our Medfield Public School teachers and staff are working tirelessly to ensure our children's safety, social-emotional health, educational progress, and happiness. Together, the K-8 PTO, High School PTO, and MCPE are excited to launch the Heroes Under the Mask Campaign which celebrates the positive experiences that go above and beyond the normal role of teachers, staff, and administrators. This is your chance to recognize all the little and big things they are doing to make this unsettled time purposeful!  Please take a moment to share the positive experiences your family is experiencing during this time by nominating a hero using the Heroes Under the Mask Nomination Form. Nominations will be shared publicly so that we can celebrate the positive efforts as a community.

Check out this awesome nomination for Administrative Assistants, Mrs. Gobin & Mrs. Infantino!

On Tuesday, students in Mrs. Fox's fourth-grade classroom took advantage of the amazing weather and took a deeper dive into comprehension.  Something fun when you get to learn outside!

Medfield Outreach has extended their weekly drop-in mental health hours through November.  Please check out this flyer for more information. There are also new weekly drop-in times for students.  Click here for details.

Picture Retake Day

Tuesday, Nov 17 - Cohort A

Thursday, Nov 19 - Cohort B

This week, students in Ms. Hayes' fourth-grade class worked with Dale Street reading specialist, Mrs. Bassett to work on applying various signposts - reading comprehension strategies.  Mrs. Bassett and Ms. Hayes used the popular book The Big Orange Splot to help identify some of these strategies.

The Dale Street Site Council will meet via Zoom on Tuesday, Nov 17th, at 3:15 p.m.  If you are interested in joining, please email me at sgrenham@email.medfield.net and I will send you the Zoom meeting details.

Just a few weeks left to log your 20.52 miles as part of the One Medfield Moves Challenge! Remember to post your pictures on social media with #OneMedfield to be entered into our weekly drawing!

The Medfield Cares About Prevention (MCAP) community coalition has the goal of reducing youth substance use and improving the health and wellbeing of Medfield youth. During the month of November, the MCAP coalition, in partnership with the Medfield Police, is implementing a “Parents Who Host, Lose the Most” campaign in order to increase awareness and reduce underage drinking. We ask you to join us, along with other local community organizations, agencies, and businesses, in this effort!

Please read this important flyer about how to talk to your Dale student about alcohol use.

On Thursday, our students began Session 1 rotation of their specials.  Grade 4 students have Health and World Language.  Grade 5 students have Art and PE.  Ask your student what they are learning!

Students in Ms. MacDonnell's Grade 4 class utilized the playground to work on some multiplication strategies.  These young learners are becoming fluent with area model and partial products.

We will be holding virtual parent-teacher conferences this year on Thursday, December 10th from 12-3:30 p.m., and Tuesday, December 15th from 12:00-3:30 p.m. Watch for information from your child's teacher about signing up for a conference time.

This week Jack, a 4th-grade scientist in Ms. DiPesa's class participated in experiments at home that investigated mechanical and chemical weathering using sugar cubes in a jar! Great work, Jack!

We continue to strongly recommend that students follow social distancing guidelines and wear masks when outside the school setting (They are doing great at school!).  This is the best way to control the spread of the virus.

Thanks for checking in.  Have a good, safe weekend.

Steve
