January 17, 2020 - Week 20

I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character. ~Martin Luther King, Jr.

Greetings Dale Street Community,

I hope that you all had a fantastic week.  I wanted to share one of my favorite quotes from Martin Luther King, Jr.  I find so much power in these words.  Please take a minute to scroll through the awesomeness that took place at Dale Street this week.

Congratulations to our music department for their fantastic band and chorus concerts this week!  They were awesome! The orchestra concert will be on Thursday, 1/23.

The Winter/Spring Intramural registration is now open through January 24th.  For questions, please contact Kim Frazier, Intramural Director (daleintramural@email.medfield.net)

Registration for the Winter F.A.S.T. Athletics program is now open.  Classes will run from Jan. 30- April 2.  See this flyer for additional information and to register.

This week, Grade 4 students worked on improving their communication bloopers through role play with Dale Street Guidance Counselor, Ms. Warner.  Ask your children about this great social emotional learning activity.

The Dale Street Student Council representatives (with input from their classmates) have voted to collect board games, small, new stuffed animals, DVD's, and money for the children with cancer at Children's Hospital during Trimester II.  There will be a collection bin at Dale Street from January  27th - February 14th to collect donated items.  Any monetary donations can be turned into the office.

Our next Spirit Day will be on Friday, February 7th with the theme.....CAREER DAY!!  Students and staff are encouraged to dress up on this day as a career they would like to pursue (i.e. basketball player, chef, photographer, scientist)

A message from the MHS Art Department:

Last year was our first annual Empty Bowls event, and this year we are back at it! For those who may not remember, Empty Bowls is  a collaborative community dinner of soup and bread to raise money for Medfield Food Cupboard.

A $25  ticket bought in advance gets you dinner along with two pottery classes at the High School to create a bowl to eat dinner out of and bring home with you.

No time to make your own bowl? Choose a handmade bowl at dinner, fill it with delicious soup donated by local restaurants, and take your bowl home with you! All ages welcome!

While advanced sign up is required, payments can be made via cash, check, or Venmo at the door.

Last year was a lot of fun and we raised almost $2000 for the Medfield Food Cupboard! Please feel free to reach out with any questions and we hope to see you there!

This week, students in Ms. Bertschmann's grade 5 classroom used real recipes to create equivalent fractions and write word problems about comparing fractions to share with their classmates.  What a fun way to learn and collaborate!

Dear Parents,

The Blake Middle School is holding a blood drive Monday, January 20th, from 8am-2pm. It is run by our students and the American Red Cross. This is our 6th annual blood drive and the goal is to help teach students that MLK day is a day of service, rather than a "day off". We are off to a good start with people coming in to donate, but we are pretty far from our goal and need your help. Please consider donating blood. We have the best food recovery table around, and we have a mother's helper station for those who need to bring their kiddos along.

If you have any questions regarding the blood drive please feel free to contact, Cynthia McClelland at cmcclelland@email.medfield.net  and attached you will find the link for the electronic sign up form. Please feel free to pass the form along the more the merrier.

We are in great need for donors during these times: 9:15-9:45 and 12:00-2pm.
